ANOTHER WORLD UPDATE FOR TUESDAY 9/13/94
*--------------------------------------*

CARL & RACHEL
*-----------*

As they are getting ready to go to Iris' trial, they again discuss Ryan,
the counterfeiting, and Rachel's worries for Carl's safety.

IRIS TRENT EVAN
*-------------*

Iris starts talking to Daddy Cory's portrait, once again, asking him to help
her to find a way out of her mess so that she can will be found innocent.
When Trent and Evan come in, Evan tries to calm a very nervous Iris,
convincing her that it was a good idea to have switched lawyers and to be
working with Trent. When Iris is no longer with them, they gloat as usual.
Off to court.

GRANT AMANDA DONNA
*----------------*

Grant is seen doing actual senatorial business on the phone, until a
libidenous Amanda comes up behind him, starts smooching him, and hangs up
the phone. They smooch some more until Grant mentions inviting Evan to
dinner that night to smooth things over. For a second, Amanda questions
whether Grant already made arrangements without consulting her and might be
trying to manage the relationship; Grant says that this is not the case.
So they agree to invite him. Donna enters, complaining of being
man-handled by one of Grant's doormen, starts accusing Grant of controlling
women, being selfish, and warning Amanda about these traits, saying that she
has been brainwashed by Grant not to see the obvious. When Amanda
leaves, unconvinced, Grant questions Donna about whether she has seen Vicky,
and askes if Vicky is ready to come back and make a deal. Donna refuses to
tell him, saying that nothing that he could offer would be acceptable, and
that Vicky has sacrificed everything for Kirk, and would rather die than
give him up to Grant. Then Donna exits.

JOSIE SHARLENE JOHN
*-----------------*

Josie is in the middle of a modelling photo shoot, when Sharlene --
triggered by the way Josie is posing, and the cameraman's suggestive words
and adjustment of Josie's blouse -- overracts and starts screaming at the
both of them about improper behavior. The session breaks up temporarily
and John arrives, as Sharlene and Josie go off and argue. When Sharlene
accuses Josie of being a hooker like Sharly and Josie agrees, Sharlene is
taken aback, evidently having blocked that Josie already told Sharly this,
but not Sharlene. Josie counters that the modelling job is perfectly
respectable, related to her acting prospects and future career; John agrees,
and Sharlene sees they are right and apologizes. As she and John leave,
she reminds Josie that she is beautiful on the inside, and not to let
anyone take that away from her. The photo session resumes. Back at the
house, Sharlene speculates with John that she has taught Josie to be too
compliant and insecure by her own example, and confides that she is upset
by Josie's sexy, loose behavior. John suggests that she not judge, and
just love Josie. Sharlene says that John is patient, and that Josie was
lucky to have him, while she was away. John points out that Josie is a
fighter, that it's her life and body, and that she is not doing anything
wrong. John asks her if she wants him to call the pychiatrist and move
the next appointment up, but Sharlene says that it is not necessary.
Then she leaves to go think.
When Josie comes in looking for MAMA, John reminds Josie that Sharlene
has been away for three years and that she feels like she's let Josie down.
Josie doesn't want to shut Sharlene out, so she suggests talking to both
of them about her time in LA. They go to look for Sharlene and find her
in front of the memorial plaque, where Sharlene asks Josie if she put it
up in her memory, where she often went to think. Josie asks if she can get
on with her life without having to feel guilty anymore about her past
mistakes. But Sharlene just wants to know why Josie became a hooker.
Josie speculates that she did it because her some of her friends did and
make it look alright, she was broke, stupid, and that her future didn't
seem to matter. But it's not the shame that she'll have to deal with for
the rest of her life, but the threat of AIDS that she is most scared about.
She and John mention the previous test that she took, but that the latest
test results won't be in until tomorrow. Josie breaks down and cries, as
Sharlene hugs her tight, saying "MAMA's here." A long moment of bonding...

The COURTROOM (CARL RACHEL IRIS TRENT EVAN AMANDA)
*------------------------------------------------*

In an empty courtroom, Ryan talks to Kramer, who thinks that it should be
easy to nail Iris for the crime. When Iris, Trent, and Evan enter the
courtroom, they tell Iris to freshen up and keep quiet. As Trent
expresses doubts that he could win even if he tried, Even reminds him
to make sure she's found guity. Evan reminds Trent that people saw her
fire the gun, and that no one is aware of Evan's direct involvement with
Barry and the shooting. As Trent opens his defense, Evan holds Iris' hand.
When Iris asks Trent why he didn't mention that Barry was working for
someone else, he covers by saying that there is no way to prove that.
Carl takes the stand, stating that he had been receiving threats connected
directly to his wedding plans with Rachel -- phone calls, quotes from Julius
Cesar, and a piece of masonary falling from a building directly above their
heads, causing them to comtemplate cancelling the wedding; but Rachel
refused. He says that Iris was vocally opposed, saying that she'd rather
see him dead than run her father's company. Big gasps from the courtroom.
He goes on to say that they hired a security team to guard at the wedding,
that he gave Rachel a gun for protection, and that he didn't see the gun
again until Rachel was passing though the metal detector, and then with Iris.
Iris then causes a scene by yelling that it didn't happen that way, while
the camera shows a smirking Evan. When things calm down, she tells Trent
that Carl threatened her first in the confessional, and that he should use
that info. When questioned by Trent, Carl concedes that he does not know
for sure that the threatening calls, etc. came from Iris, and then admits,
under pressure from Trent, that he did in fact say to Iris in the
confessional that he would rather see her dead than disrupt his happiness
with Rachel Cory -- this makes Iris relieved.
Kramer gets Carl to mention that Iris admitted to him, after he was shot,
that she was the one who did it. Iris says that she didn't mean to shoot
him. Kramer calls Ryan to the stand., as Evan and Amanda leave the
courtroom. Amanda asks Evan if his presence is just a show of support for
Cory Publishing; he says that he believes she innocent. She asks him to
dinner, and he accepts. She says that she's had enough of Iris, and leaves.
On the stand, Ryan says that he went to Iris' apartment to obtain samples
of her clothes, and found them burned near the incinerator. Iris says
that Barry did it to make her look guilty. When Ryan is asked what Barry
said on his death bed, he repeats that Iris acted alone and she was the
only one. Drawing attention to Ryan's lack of credibility, Trent points
out that Ryan was suspended for misconduct. When Rachel takes the stand,
she states that Iris begged her to give her the gun, and couldn't answer
a question as to whether she felt that Barry was intimidating physically.
Then there are a bunch of asides :
Iris asks Trent and Evan why Trent did not push harder, and they reassure
her that things are going fine. When Trent and Evan talk alone, Evan
confronts Trent asking him what he's trying to pull. He thinks that Trent
is not making her look bad enough; but Trent counters that if he makes her
look too bad himself, that judge will catch on.
Carl and Rachel agree that Iris is not generating much sympathy with her
packaged defense. They continue their ongoing discussion about Carl's
problems, and he reminds her that in this marriage, she will not always
get her way. Ryan asks Iris in a doubtful way if she is pleased with her
representation. As Evan reminds Trent "what has to happen," Iris overhears
this phrase, and asks them what the heck they mean. Freeze Frame...
