Here is the update for Another World for Friday, September
9, 1994:

Felicia/Marshall/Paulina/Walter/Beverly

Beverly Lawrence has come to Bay City to interview Felicia
on location at KBAY. She tends to slant her questions
against romance novels and readers, but Felicia defends her
fans and comes off very classy. Paulina and Marshall watch
>from the sidelines, pleased with her answers. Beverly opens
up the phone lines, and Wacky Walter (watching on a
miniature TV from the Cory mailroom) calls in anonymously.
He says he loves all her romance novels, but warns her not
to publish her tell-all autobiography; he says he represents
a lot of her fans. She tries to placate him, she hopes her
fans will give her new book a chance, and offers to refund
his money if he doesn't like the first few chapters - just
leave your name and address with the switchboard. Of
course, he abruptly hangs up. Beverly closes the show with
a few catty remarks, but Marshall and Paulina congratulate
Felicia on how she handled Beverly ("Beverly Who?" says
Marshall). Felicia says after working the past few months
with Marshall, she can handle anything. He says then she
owes him - how about dinner? He also invites Paulina, but
shakes his head at the same time so Paulina gets the hint
and declines, saying she can't wait to read the manuscript.
Marshall takes Felicia to his place; she is amused to find
it completely devoid of furniture. He says he's ordered a
chair, but the salesman picked it out for him, he doesn't
remember what it looks like except that he remembers he
didn't really like it much. At least it won't clash with
anything, she quips. He explains that he's always lived in
hotels and furnished apartments, he has no clue how to pick
out furniture. Felicia says it should express his viewpoint
and personality; he's doing a good job getting to know his
daughter, maybe he could do the same with himself. Marshall
asks her to help him decorate, since she knows him better
than anyone. But I hardly know you at all, she says,
astonished. He says he considers her a friend; she's
relieved when the phone rings. The phone is sitting in the
middle of the floor, and he walks over to answer it. It's
Paulina, who has just read the entire manuscript in the last
20 minutes [amazing!]; she raves about it, and asks what to
do with it. Marshall tells her to put it in a confidential
envelope, label it, and leave it in the outgoing mail cart
to be picked up. She follows instructions, and then locks
up for the night and leaves.  Wacko lurks in the background;
as soon as she leaves, he uses his pass key, enters the
office, and makes a beeline for the manuscript. He picks it
up, holds it to his chest, and begs the absent Felicia not
to disappoint him.

Meanwhile, Felicia tells Marshall she considers them
colleagues - she doesn't hate him anymore - but they're a
long way from being friends. He says he feels comfortable
with her, he can be himself, and she's the first colleague
he's ever invited to his home. She asks if that's the
yardstick he uses to define friendship; "My yardstick is
Cass," she tells him. We've been together for years, he's
been there for every trauma I've ever had, he's a part of my
life, I couldn't imagine a day without him in it; he and
Frankie are loyal and loving and giving and compassionate,
they've made me their only daughter's godmother... Marshall
gets the picture; she says she comes with a lot of baggage,
but he says it's just excuses - he feels very close to her
and hopes one day she'll feel the same way about him. Well,
she admits, at least you're not boring - that's important
for being friends.

Later, Wacko is guzzling coffee and Twinkies in the Cory
mailroom, as he reads through the "borrowed" manuscript with
a sour look on his face. Meanwhile, Marshall and Felicia
sit on his floor and have an impressive French picnic.
Felicia yawns, the apologizes [why? It's after midnight,
for pete's sake!] and asks him to help her up. As he does,
there's a brief awkward moment of forced intimacy. She
picks up her purse and heads for the door, still yawning.
He promises her a chair next time. The phone rings; she
thanks him for the picnic and exits, and he goes to answer
the phone. It's Wacko, disguising his voice as a woman and
claiming to be the president of Felicia's fan club. "She"
tells Marshall the club members were very upset over
Felicia's interview, "her" phone has been ringing off the
hook, and they're counting on Marshall as Felicia's editor
to guide her back to the romance writing her fans know and
love. Marshall repeats that he and Felicia hope that her
fans will give the new book a chance, wishes the "lady" a
lovely evening, and hangs up shaking his head. This rubs
Wacko the wrong way: "You've had your chance, Mr. Kramer;
now it's MY turn," he vows.

Evan/Amanda/Rachel/Carl

Evan wanders around the office, flashing back to his earlier
conversation at Amanda's mansion where he told her he was
leaving town, but he wanted her to be happy, and she wished
him well. Back at the mansion, Amanda flashes back to the
same thing. Carl and Rachel interrupt her reverie and ask
if she's o.k. Fine, she says, I have to go take care of
some business. She starts to leave, then she finds an
Express Mail envelope for Carl in the doorway and hands it
to him on her way out. Rachel watches anxiously as he opens
the envelope; it contains the counterfeit $100 they received
on their honeymoon, which Carl had asked Ito to track down.
Carl is sure there are more in circulation; their big
disadvantage is not knowing who is after him. Grant
suddenly appears from the patio, just back from Washington
and looking for Amanda. They tell him she had to go out on
business. He gives them a present he bought for Alli at the
Congressional Gift Shop ("with my own money, by the way," he
assures them), saying he hopes Amanda won't be working late
after they're married, tell her to call me as soon as she
gets home, I won't sleep until I see her. He leaves; Carl
notes that Rachel chose not to tell Grant about Amanda's
earlier visit from Evan. Rachel says she's pleased about
the match between Grant and Amanda; Carl comments on Grant's
possessiveness (like how he treated Vicky), but admits he
can be that way himself - what's mine is mine. They kiss.

Ryan/Lila/Spencer

Ryan confronts Lila with the phony $100 she tried to give
the bartender. She claims she didn't know it was fake; she
got it from some guys in a poker game on the train to
Chicago, but she got off in Bay City. She walks away, and
Ryan wonders whether Carl is responsible for the funny
money. Spence observes from a distance. Lila returns and
sees Ryan put the bill in an envelope with Vicky's name on
it. He tells her he's keeping the bill as evidence, don't
leave town. He leaves, and Spence confronts Lila about
passing phony bills and flirting with Ryan, and warns her to
lay off. She says he's in no position to be warning, he
should be begging.

Amanda/Lorna/Evan/Ryan

Amanda pays Lorna a late night visit (to her annoyance) with
notes for Evan about the proposal revision and wants Lorna
to give her Evan's itinerary and out-of-town phone number
because she wants to deal directly with the big cheese, not
minions like Lorna, since she's paying so much money for
their services. Lorna is surprised that Evan left town
without telling her, but tells Amanda she'll follow up on
Amanda's requests and encourages her to go home. As she
opens the door to go, she is surprised to run into Evan. He
says he changed his mind, he won't be leaving town after
all. Lorna tells Evan that Amanda had some notes for him on
the ad campaign, and Evan says he has some time right now.
He hands Lorna a folder full of work he wants done by 9:00
a.m. tomorrow. Suddenly Ryan appears at the door looking
for Lorna. He and Evan swap barbs, then Ryan asks if Lorna
can go someplace so they can talk. No, she says, I live
here - and she kicks out Evan and Amanda. Out in the
hallway, Amanda tells Evan she's glad he's not leaving town,
and says goodnight. What about the notes, he asks. Oops,
almost forgot, she answers, handing him the folder. He
makes sure to touch her hand as he takes the file. They
awkwardly say goodnight.

Inside, Ryan produces the phony bill and asks Lorna if it's
Carl's handiwork. She advises him to lighten up, let it go,
don't screw up his new relationship with his father by being
too by-the-book - she'd give anything to have her father
back, he doesn't appreciate how lucky he is. Besides, she
doesn't want to screw up her own life by getting involved.
Ryan insists she could be in big trouble unless she
cooperates; he's a cop, and he can't just let it go. He
stalks out angrily.

Ryan/Rachel/Carl
Amanda/Grant

Ryan arrives at the mansion, apologizes for visiting so
late, and tells Carl he has a contribution for the new anti-
crime campaign of his. He hands him the fake $100 bill,
which he immediately recognizes. He tells Ryan "You
shouldn't have - REALLY." He says they both know it's a
fake; Ryan says you barely looked at it, how can you tell?
Carl says it's obvious; Ryan says it's not that easy for the
average person to spot; he grills Rachel, and she admits she
couldn't tell the difference at a glance. Get to the point,
says Carl. It could be the work of a talented unknown, he
answers, but more likely it's from an old master, maybe one
with an unsuspecting wife and a son who's a cop - maybe he
pretends to go straight, but then sets out to rebuild his
criminal empire. If you think I'm guilty, Carl replies,
then arrest me now.

Amanda arrives home, and starts to head for Grant's when he
intercepts her on the veranda. They kiss, then she tells
him she met with Evan tonight and they made real progress.
Evan says he wants me to be happy, she says, and I told him
I'm happy with you. Let's show him, says Grant, let's
invite him over for a family dinner so he can see for
himself. Amanda stupidly agrees to think about it; then she
says Rachel agreed to look after Alli, so she can spend the
night at his place. They exit, smooching.

Inside, Rachel asks Carl to let her talk to Ryan alone. No,
says Carl. Trust me, says Rachel. Carl tells Ryan he's
offended by these sneaky tactics between father and son, and
he exits. Ryan demands to know what Rachel is keeping from
him. She says she wants to tell him, but she doesn't know
if she can trust him, she's trying to keep the family
together. He says he has to go by the book, he can't let
family loyalty interfere. She reminds him life isn't always
black and white - maybe that's why Vicky left, she couldn't
take being judged by the people she loved. Don't let your
bitterness over Vicky cost you your father, she advises. If
Carl is counterfeiting again, says Ryan, what do you suppose
I should do to help us?

Evan/Trent/Lorna/Lila

Evan returns triumphant from his encounter with Amanda. He
reports to Trent that Ryan showed up at Lorna's all hot and
bothered. They figure Ryan is about to confront Carl about
the counterfeit bill, and they look forward to the fallout.
Their current operative is a real pro, without Doyle's drug
habit. They phone rings; Evan leaps to answer it, and tells
Trent good work, he can leave for the night. After the door
closes, Evan tells the caller that the coast is clear, come
on over.

Later, Lorna knocks on the door very late, with the work
already completed that Evan had handed her. Evan is caught
a little off-guard by her visit, says thanks, and tries to
rush her out. She gets suspicious, and guesses with
amusement that he has a woman upstairs. None of your
business, he smiles, kicking her out. Later still, he
stands shirtless looking out the big studio windows. A
woman descends from upstairs, putting her shoes on - it's
Lila. Thank you, she says, wrapping herself all over him.
That's my line, he answers. You already thanked me
upstairs, she purrs. Always reward a job well done, he
smiles; then he goes back to staring out the window. She
joins him, stroking and kissing his chest. FREEZE FRAME.

Better late than never?
