Aided by onion juice applied directly to the eyes,
Grant and Cindy put on a convincing display of grief
as the press closes in with questions about the
candidate's wife's "tragic miscarriage". As the
verdict is read aloud in the hushed courtroom, Nick
is shattered to hear himself pronounced guilty.
While Toni and her family celebrate a victory, the
defendant's relatives and friends gasp in shock and
cry aloud. Cindy confronts her husband with the
jeweler's bill for an expensive pearl necklace. Gary
is outraged when Mason Donahue suddenly changes his
tune about Grant's blackmailing activities. Keeping
her private agenda to herself, Lila tells Shane
she's ready to accompany him to San Domenica to
finalize their divorce. A jealous Cindy begins to
suspect that Grant is running around with another
woman. Given a last opportunity to speak, Nick again
declares his innocence, then reels anew as the judge
sentences him to twenty years in Joliet state
prison. Afterwards, choking back tears, Michael
promises his devastated son he'll keep working to
overturn the conviction. Meanwhile, Josie receives a
report of a female Coast Guard cadet who narrowly
escaped an attacker on the previous night. As Nick
is marched off to jail, the real rapist prepares a
nasty surprise for his next victim.
