>Here's your update for Friday August 8 [comments mine, although there
aren't many as I was doing this at 3 am this morning while suffering from
insomnia]:
>
>WOULD YOU COULD YOU...WITH A RAPIST??
>Toni tells Sofia that it took a lot for her not to testify on behalf of
Nick. Sofia admits she loves him, but Toni says it isn't possible, that she
is glad Sofia knows the truth after Joanne testified. Sofia says she has to
ask Toni something and her answer will affect her entire future. Sofia says
she isn't sure where she stands with Nick. They rehash her relationship
with Nick, the lies and so forth. Sofia asks Toni if there is any
possibility that she was wrong, that there is a chance that Nick isn't the
rapist. (Meanwhile, Dana and Tyrone argue over whether Nick will accept a
plea bargain: Dana insists he did it, while Tyrone says they haven't
convicted him yet. Dana leaves to go to the lineup for Carrie {see below}.)
Toni blows up. Sofia asks if it could have been someone else. Sofia says
that Nick never forced himself on her, does that sound like a rapist. Toni
reminds Sofia that rape is about power not sex. Sofia asks if Toni could
send an innocent man to prison. Could you love a rapist, Toni retorts.
Sofia leaves. Toni cries and tells Tyrone that Nick has Sofia really screwed
up, so much so that now she doubts him. Tyrone brings Chris and Toni some
cake and milk. Toni tells a story about how when she and Tyrone were kids
they stole cake batter to make mud pies. Dana returns and tells Toni that
Carrie couldn't identify Nick as her rapist, but insists Toni still has a
strong case and that Nick will do time.
>
>LINEUPS R US
>Rayburn throws Nick back in the holding cell until it's time for the
lineup. Rayburn gives Josie a hard time: it must be hard for you, Nick's
like family. He warns Nick that if the security guard identifies him, it's
life. Nick says his life is over. Michael comes in and tries to convince
him otherwise, but without Sofia, Nick feels he might as well go to jail and
ponders pleading guilty. Josie asks Rayburn to be part of the lineup. He
tries to get out of it, but she insists that he change. Nick bemoans his
loss of Sofia. Michael asks if Nick is guilty. If he isn't, Michael
advises him not to plead guilty. Dana and Josie bring in the lineup for the
security guard Carrie, who insists she never saw the rapist, that she is
hoping that maybe she saw him earlier in the parking lot. The men come in
and stand in the lineup, including Rayburn and Nick. Later, Nick gets back
to his cell and asks to call Cass, but the officer wont let him. He dreams
that Sofia comes to him and tells him that he's innocent and he should fight
the charges for their future. Meanwhile, outside the hospital, Sofia asks
God what she should do.

>OF BROKEN DOWN DOORS AND PEARL STRINGS...
>Gary is annoyed that Shane broke his door down. Lila apologizes; Shane was
making a phone call, so Lila left, and she has a habit of locking the door
behind her, so Shane broke it to get out. Lila asks if Gary knows where
Shane went, but he doesn't, but from the looks of the door, he sure was in a
hurry. Gary tells Lila that Carl wants him to look into dirt on Grant to
keep him out of the mayor's mansion. Lila asks if hiring Grant as her
lawyer causes a rift between them, but he insists it isn't, but that she
should watch herself cause Grant is a snake. Maybe I won't even need a
lawyer, Lila coos, now that Vicky is with Jake. Gary goes over to Cass'
office to find out what is going on with Nick's case. Grant comes in and
compliments Lila. They make small talk about Cindy. Grant fondles the
fertility god statue. Lila ask if Grant believes if you picture something
in your mind, it comes true. Is that how you do it, he asks. Your story
about the pop beads inspired me. He hands her a box that contains some real
pearls. Lila is shocked; did you think I was hinting for these? Grant says
he merely read between the lines. She tries to refuse them, but he says she
wanted them, so she should have them. He asks her to dinner, but she
refuses. He tells her to accept these things as tokens of friendship, but
Lila soon realizes Grant is doing this cause Carl hired Gary to find dirt on
Grant. She accuses him of flirting with him, which he freely admits. He
requests copies of whatever information Gary comes up with. When Lila asks
what he is up to, Grant says a game, do you wish to play? You can think
about it over dinner. She accepts his invitation. Later, Gary has returned
to his office and Josie arrives and wonders about the door. Gary tells her
it's a long story. Josie says the second victim couldn't identify Nick as
her rapist and the case has her stressed. Gary suggests she put in for desk
duty while she's pregnant, that the stress of working on cases is taking its
toll on her. Josie gets mad at this suggestion. Gary says he is worried
about her being on the street, but Josie insists she will be careful.
>
>YOU WISH I WAS COMING ON TO YOU...
>Grant tells Rusty to pour lots of champagne for Lila. He tells Rusty to do
his job, and he says he will and goes back to work. Lila asks how many
copies of the information Grant needs. Grant is pleased. Lila brings up
the fact that she is staying in an apartment owned by Carl, that she needs a
place to move to, but she cant afford another smaller apartment. Grant says
he will help, but Lila insists he can't help her. Grant insists that she is
working for him in a way, that she should just hand deliver the rent bills
as he doesn't trust the mail [more like he doesn't want record of it]. Lila
wonder if Cindy would be upset with that arrangement, but Grant tells her
not to worry about it: Cindy spends most of her time maxxing out her credit
cards. Lila believes Cindy genuinely loves Grant, that he has it all.
Grant says what's most important is his son, but he has missed out on
raising him. That is why he wants to give Kirk siblings. He has a
half-brother, Lila points out. Grant says that Steven doesn't think much of
Grant, and Vicky doesn't help matters. She's jealous, Lila insists. Grant
pictures himself the head of a large family with lots of love. Lila
pictures that too. They toast to getting what they want. Donna comes over
and harasses Grant about entertaining another woman while Cindy is away, but
Grant insists that Lila is merely his client. Donna catches a glimpse of
the fertility god statue, which Grant shows her. Donna picks it up and then
puts it back on the table. Where's that runaround daughter of yours, Grant
asks. Donna blows him off and calls Rusty to Rusty. Lila tells Grant that
she thinks Vicky is off with Jake and that they are going to get married.
Grant strokes the fertility god statue as Lila tells him the news. He isn't
happy at the prospect of Vicky further limiting his access to Kirk and
inflicting either Shane or Jake as a stepfather. Oh, no, Lila says, don't
tell me you're in love with her too. Grant says if there was a way to erase
Vicky from the planet-legally of course--he would have done it years ago: I
hate her. Lila quickly tries to excuse herself; she needs to visit someone
at the hospital. She thanks him for the pearls and promises that when he
has a little girl one day, she will give them to her. Lila leaves.
Meanwhile, at another table, Donna reads over a speech she's prepared: how
Grant has no respect for law, a vote for Donna Love is a vote for decency,
etc. Rusty offers her a glass of wine, but Donna says she isn't drinking in
public anymore. It isn't that it's wrong or anything, just that she doesn't
want to have a run-in with Grant's photographers. Rusty compliments her
repeatedly. Later, when they are alone, Rusty kisses Donna as Grant takes a
picture. She slaps him, but he insists that he is only doing what she wants
him to do: he's been coming on to him for months. Isn't that why you hired
me, he asks. Donna fires him, and he leaves. He meets Grant in the alcove.
Now the fun begins, Grant promises.
>
>GOD KNOWS I WANT TO BREAK FREE...
>Jake puts a ring on Vicky's finger and kisses her as Shane watches. He
gives her a hard time about her engagement to Jake: she cant run to her past
for comfort, why does she need to get married so soon, etc. He demands that
she not turn her back on her feelings for him. Vicky says all she felt with
Shane was confusion and unhappiness, but with Jake she feels true love.
Jake chimes in that this isn't sudden: they have waited their entire lives
to be together. Shane surmises that Vicky is getting engaged because of
him. Jake asks Vicky what she wants him to do. She asks for a few minutes
alone with Shane, and Jake wanders, but not too far. Shane begs a chance,
but she says that he has already had many. Vicky is upset that he has lied
so much, but Shane says he explained all of that and thought she had gotten
past it. He insists he is free now, but Vicky tells him that he isn't
truly, and besides, it's too late for them now. Vicky knows Shane did what
he could for her and her sons, but it wasn't enough. Shane says Jake makes
her feel secure, but Vicky insists that he makes her feel loved. He tries
to remind her of what she felt when he climbed into her bedroom window and
tells her that no matter where she is or who she is with, he will always
feel that way for her. Jake comes back over and tells Shane to leave.
Shane says he is sure Jake will be happy, but there will be times that for a
split second he will doubt Vicky's love for him. Shane turns to leave, but
not before Vicky vows that when she and Jake marry, it will be forever.
Keep telling yourself that, Shane tells her, but it's a lie. Shane leaves.
Sitting on the swings, Jake asks Vicky when she was going to tell him about
the bedroom incident. Vicky asks him to drop it. Who am I with? Vicky
explains the situation, which upsets Jake. He threatens Shane bodily harm
if he touches her again. Jake tells her that he will give her all his love,
as long as that love is reciprocated - there's no room for Shane, he
insists. She asks how she can make him feel as loved as he loves her and
tells him that if she looks dreamily out a window, he will be thinking about
him, not Shane. She professes her love and they kiss. She tries to talk
more about Shane, but he kisses her to shut her up. Shane who, he asks.
They realize that they are getting married and get excited. It's about
time, they say together, and they kiss some more.
>
>BACK HOME.....
>Shane goes into the on-call room at the hospital and finds Lila sleeping
there. Meanwhile, at Vicky's, Jake and Vicky kiss and go upstairs to make love.
