WHO IS MARGARET BANNING?
Josie/Gary

After finding the name Margaret Banning in Blair's safety deposit
box, Gary and Josie try to figure out who Blair had been blackmailing,
could be her (and everyone else's) killer. Josie's guess is Carl; Gary
thinks it's unlikely, Carl has too many family ties who'd miss him if he
were skulking around at all hours - it was probably a loner. Margaret
Banning could be the key, Gary will try to track her down while Josie is
at her shower. Josie doesn't want to go, she wants to stay and play cop,
but Gary wants to see all the lingerie she brings home. While she waits
for Frankie to pick her up, Gary dashes off, but won't say where. (See
below.)

SOFIA'S ANGST
Sofia/Matt/Joe/Gary/Lorna

After giving Sofia the news about Nick and Maggie's wedding, Matt
offers to hang around, but Sofia says no need. Then Joe bursts in,
notices that she's upset. They tell him about the wedding at the Cory
estate, of course Joe has to have a tirade about Nick the Bum, even though
Sofia tells him to can it. Then Joe tries to act cheery, kidding about
his baby sister, everyone loves her, she's so sweet, someone here is about
to have a birthday, wonder who, etc. Sofia is seething, Joe can't take a
hint; when he finally proposes a birthday party and invites Matt, Matt at
least want's to ask if it's o.k. w/ Sofia. So Joe asks his little
bambina, o.k. w/ you? She explodes, I'm NOT your little bambina, stop
treating me like a child, I'm 21 - and if you throw me a party, you'd
better invite Matt or I'll never speak to you again. Joe finally figures
out he's not helping, and decides to pick up Dante at Rachel's (Rachel's
probably tied up w/ wedding stuff). Matt tells him Paulina was there when
he left, and Joe exits. Matt starts to leave, too, but Sofia asks him to
stay a moment, so she can apologize for her outburst (WHAT outburst??).

I'm not usually like that, she says, out of our whole loud family I'm
usually the calm, strong one, you haven't exactly seen me at my best
lately... I think you're terrific, Matt tells her.

Meanwhile, outside the room, Joe runs into Gary; Gary asks about
Sofia, then tells Joe he and Josie are tracking down a very promising lead
in the serial killings. Joe of course goes ballistic, I thought you'd
learned your lesson about civilians poking into police matters; but Gary
assures him Gabe knows all about it and intends to look the other way, he
just wants this case solved. Lorna enters with a gift, which she implies
is for Josie's shower; Gary asks her for access to hospital records. It's
just for one name, Margaret Banning, says Gary. Lorna balks; but Joe says
"Give him access." (See below.)

DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY - IT'S A WEDDING?
Rafael/Nick/Maggie/Carl/Rachel/Michael/Paulina/Cass/Frankie

Rafael passes around the champagne; Carl makes a poetic toast (from
Henry V, I think), but when Maggie starts to take a sip with everyone
else, Paulina of course goes ballistic. Rachel agrees, no alcohol,
Maggie. But why? Maggie pouts. When she remembers she's supposed to be
pregnant, she giggles coyly and says she just got so excited she forgot;

Paulina recounts all the restrictions she had from her doctor during her
pregnancy, but Dante made it all worthwhile, Joe really missed him while
we were in Italy. We'd never leave our baby, would we, Nick darling,
burbles Maggie, trying to snuggle up to Nick, who's clenching his jaw and
biting his tongue. Frankie asks where they plan to live; hadn't thought
about it, Nick answers. Rachel offers them a suite on the third floor of
the mansion, plenty of room. Oh, no, we want a place of our own, Maggie
chirps, don't we, sweetheart? Nick tersely announces he needs a word
alone with my "wife," and proceeds to drag her out to the terrace.

Frankie decides it's a good time to leave, she has to go pick up
Josie for the shower. Cass says he'd better stick around in case Maggie
needs a pseudo-father; Frankie observes that he's a good dad, DNA match or
no match. She kisses him goodbye and exits, but he catches up with her in
the foyer and reminds her they're getting closer to their second
honeymoon. As the Cass/Frankie love theme ("Everything I Do") plays
quietly in the background, he repeats how loving her changed his life -
are you getting sentimental on me? she teases. I'm a sucker for a
beautiful wedding, he quips, referring to the fiasco they just witnessed.

They re-express their love for each other, share a long passionate kiss,
and decide to start the honeymoon early - she'll get rid of the shower
guests ASAP so they can be alone together tonight. One more kiss, and she
has to leave; he stands in the doorway and watches her go.

Meanwhile, Rachel urges Carl to go see what's going on with Nick and
Maggie on the terrace; Mike says to leave them alone, they need to work
things out on their own, and Carl makes a crack about Mike's failure to
teach his son about safe sex. He proceeds to ignore Mike, and goes out to
interrupt the couple.

Nick is telling Maggie he can't take anymore of this lovey-dovey act,
reminding her that their marriage is just for the baby's sake, no matter
what words he had to say in front of the judge. Maggie gets his point,
but says she loves him and he has to respect her feelings, too: I'll stop
doting, if you'll stop snarling at me, at least on my wedding day. Carl
interrupts them, acts like it's a happy occasion, and says he has a
surprise that will solve their problem - "I expect nothing less than
cheers and merriment!" he says, leading them back into the party.

"Cheers," Mike murmurs ironically to Nick; "Merriment," Nick answers
glumly. Carl holds up a key case, and announces that he had Rachel are
giving the newlyweds an apartment in Bayview Court for as long as they
like, Welcome to the family, Nicholas!  Nick reluctantly takes the key;

Maggie leaps gratefully into Carl's arms.

Later, Maggie is assembling her trousseau when Rachel and Cass enter
to wish her well. They tell her that Nick went out to the farm with Mike
to get some things, he'll be back. Maggie worries that Nick may not be
totally overjoyed at the turn of events. Rachel assures her, if she
thinks she's made a mistake, they can undo this right now, but Maggie
insists she has Nick now and that's all she needs to be happy, I'll make
him love me in time. Rachel tells her she's called Sandy and Blaine to
give them the news, but Maggie doesn't think they'll be too supportive.

Rachel exits, and Cass hugs her and tells her she looks radiant, nice
necklace. What a "dad" thing to say, she exclaims happily. Cass tells
her Frankie's advice not to let a little thing like DNA stand between
them; Maggie, surprised, promises to call Frankie tomorrow, maybe she can
give me some baby tips. She'd love that, Cass predicts. She also
promises to bring Nick over for dinner soon, he can play with Charlie,
he'll be a good father, don't worry. Cass kisses her hands and exits. It
wasn't a lie, she muses aloud, he will be a good father - eventually. She
picks up the champagne Rachel had left, and takes a sip. Raphael catches
her and reminds her she shouldn't drink IF she's pregnant, according to
Paulina. Paulina's from an older generation, Maggie sneers, one sip won't
hurt. Then Raphael reminds her how sparks seem to fly between them when
they're together, you're gonna miss me. I have Nick, she snorts, now take
down my suitcase and then get out of my life! He starts out, then pauses
- Nick's gonna need a buddy now - maybe we'll be seeing each other more
than ever, "Mrs. Terry," he needles.

The guests gone, Carl finds Matt in the living room pouring himself a
drink. Carl criticizes him for abandoning Maggie before her wedding and
ducking his family loyalty. Matt snorts, you're only in the family
because Rachel doesn't know the truth about you; besides, this wedding was
a big mistake, Nick doesn't love Maggie, she'll just end up getting hurt,
she thinks she wants him but she has no idea what she wants. I want to be
married to my baby's father, Maggie retorts, entering; I feel sorry for
Sofia, but it was her choice to throw us both out of her life, and it was
her suggestion that we get married - if she can accept it, why can't you?

Bravo, well said, Carl observes. But Matt warns her, this marriage
doesn't just hurt Sofia - Maggie will end up hurt as well. He exits.

Nick escorts her to their new digs, drops her suitcase on the bed,
and tries to duck out, claiming he has to work. Maggie insists Jake and
Matt would give him a few days off for a honeymoon, it's sweet that you
want to provide for our future, but Rachel and Carl will give us whatever
we need. We'll find our own place soon, she promises; then she tries to
kiss him, but he protests "I told you I don't love you, this is just for
the baby." She says she respects that he's being honest with her; he
relaxes and says he'll sleep on the couch. He leaves the room. You're
wrong, she murmurs to herself, we belong together, you'll soon realize it,
too. She takes down her hair and prepares for bed, with a gleam in her
eye.

Later, Nick smells smoke and rushes into the bedroom, only to see
that Maggie has lighted a slew of candles. She oozes in from the bathroom
wearing a satin peignoir [or maybe it was her wedding dress, which looked
like a nightgown IMHO]. She assumes what she thinks is a seductive pose
on the bed. I've been waiting for you, she coos, patting the pillow next
to hers.

PAULINA TELLS A LIE! (STOP THE PRESSES!)
Joe/Paulina/Sofia

Waiting in Sofia's room which she's out taking a walk, Joe tells
Paulina he's glad Nick is out of Sofia's life, but he could kill him for
hurting her with this hasty marriage to Maggie. Sofia enters and tells
Joe again to lay off Nick, he's trying to do the right thing, and he's
also helped us more than you know. She proceeds to describe how Nick
bailed them out when they almost lost the restaurant. Huh? asks Paulina,
was this while I was in Italy, what gives? I was gonna tell you, Joe says
unconvincingly. Oh, says Sofia, did you forget to tell her about the
$50,000 tax debt? Well, it was Nick who somehow found the money and paid
the debt, he swears it was legal; you should be grateful to Nick, shouts
Sofia. But Joe of course goes ballistic - no way will I be indebted to a
bum like that. He vows to pay Nick back every cent of that $50,000, if it
takes the rest of his life! [Gee, Joe, what about interest?] He storms
out. Sofia looks distressed. Paulina promises that Joe will calm down [I
doubt it], but Sofia admits she can't stop thinking about the wedding -
was it nice, was Maggie pretty, did Nick look happy, was it the right
thing for him to do? Paulina tries to sidestep, dwelling on it won't help
- and finally decides to lie: yes, Nick looked happy, this was the right
thing for him. [Hope her fingers were crossed.] She hugs Sofia, so Sofia
can't see her nose getting longer.

THE MONEY PIT
Vicky/Bobby/Stalker

Stalker-Cam watches through the window of Vicky's house, as Bobby
tells her what all needs to be done: new roof, new sump pump, termites in
the basement and on the second floor - and replaster the walls in Steven's
room. She suddenly looks alarmed and eyes him suspiciously, how did you
know my son's name, I never told you. Probably from you father, he
answers, any good contractor has to get to know the client, their needs
and preferences, even things they hadn't thought of, so they'll be happy
with the finished work. For instance, he guesses that she wants a window
that gets the morning sun; she relaxes and admits that her old house had a
sun room where she liked to spend a lot of time. He scribbles on his
notepad and hands her his estimate, which she thinks is way too high [So
what? She's rich!]. He assures her, it's all necessary, unless she wants
the house to fall apart around her; besides, it'll take him a year to
finish, working around her schedule, if she intends her family to be
living there while the work is being done. She thanks him for the
estimate and promises to get back to him with her decision. He sheepishly
admits he really needs the job, he has a mountain of bills [medical
expenses, no doubt]; he does some recalculating and gives her a revised
estimate, absolutely as low as I can go. You're hired, she tells him.

I'll start first thing in the morning, he whoops. He notices a box on the
table, it smells great; she says it's a cake she's taking to a shower,
"Death by Chocolate," [not funny, writers], and she promises she'll bring
back the leftovers, he can have some with his coffee in the morning.

Chocolate cake for breakfast - hell, I'm gonna love this job, he drawls
with a grin. He carries the cake to the car for her, as Stalker-Cam
watches.

WHERE'S THE AUTO CLUB WHEN YOU NEED THEM? (JOSIE'S SHOWER)
Josie/Frankie/Sharlene/Rachel/Vicky/Lorna/Gary/Stalker

Frankie picks up Josie for the shower; as they drive, Josie can't

stop fidgeting. She admits she feels silly going to a party when she's so

close to a break in a big case, can't tell you which case (but Frankie

has a pretty good idea). Frankie shares a story about a P.I. case she

was working on for months, finally a source was ready to spill - but

Charlie got a fever, Cass was out of town, so Joe got the payoff that

Frankie had worked so hard for. But she realized Charlie was the bigger

payoff for her, just like Gary is for Josie. Besides, Sharlene's worked

very hard to plan this for her beloved daughter, the least you can do is

take off your badge for 3 hours and let the people who love you give you

a party. Josie feels better; she says thanks, and settles down.
Later, Rachel arrives at the Winthrop house to find the shower in

full swing, with all Josie's family, friends, and co-workers, most of

whom give her racy lingerie. Vicky takes the cake to a table in the

alcove to slice it; Stalker-Cam has followed her to the party,

watching her, waiting to kill her and grab the necklace. Frankie gives

Josie some beautiful crystals, and they share a hug, which Sharlene

interrupts - Gary's on the phone for you. As Josie goes to take the

call, Sharlene remarks that seeing Gary and Josie restores her faith in in

love - of course, you and Cass have the real thing. For which I think

the gods and goddesses every day, Frankie smiles.
The call, of course, is from Gary at the hospital, he tells her he's

found something important in the hospital records. I'll be right there,

she says. As Gary hangs up, he sees Bobby walk by, and eyes him

suspiciously.
Sharlene sees Josie grab her sweater and asks what gives. Gotta go,

thanks for the shower, she says, can I borrow your car? Take it, says

Shar, I'm on my way to Colorado for a week, rafting with Gregory. Josie

wishes her a fun trip, then heads for the door. Frankie intercepts and

guesses it's about the unnamed case, and wishes her luck. Josie thanks

her for the party, promises to use the crystals, thanks everyone for the

gifts, and dashes out. Sharlene explains, Josie has to work, I'm saving

her a piece of Vicky's wonderful cake. Oh, I didn't make it, Vicky

confesses. Duh! laughs everyone, and even Vicky laughs. Guess the

party's over, says Lorna, but Vicky disagrees. She notices Frankie walk

over to the alcove with a funny look on her face, and follows. Vicky

takes off the silver (Stalker-bait) necklace and gives it to Frankie,

which Stalker-Cam observes. Everyone gathers and its history comes out:

Lorna got it from Felicia, who'd found it in a fish; Lorna wore it, and

got engaged to Gabe; she gave it to Vicky, who then found her dream

house. Vicky thought maybe Frankie could use a good luck charm; I've

already had more good luck than most people have in a lifetime, Frankie

beams, but you can never have too much. Vicky starts to put it around

Frankie's neck, who briefly stops her with a shiver. It's o.k., she

explains, shaking it off, I just got a chill, Cass would say it's the

A/C - BTW, Cass and I are about to take a second honeymoon. Great, this

will come in handy, everyone agrees, as Vicky puts the necklace around

Frankie's neck.

Josie runs into the hospital. Gary is waiting, holding a file

folder - Margaret Banning was a patient here, he tells her. Wow, we

could be close to solving this, Josie gasps.

Stalker-Cam watches as the last visitors help clean up. Sharlene

thinks Frankie has too many necklaces on, and asks to borrow her long

crystal [uh-oh!], which Frankie is happy to lend. Sharlene admits she's

worried about Josie; she'll be fine, says Frankie. Rachel offers

Sharlene a ride to the airport, which she accepts gratefully. They all

compliment Vicky's cake; it's not really my thing, she admits, these

leftovers are for my handyman. Rachel eagerly hints she'd love to watch

the kids anytime Vicky wants during the repairs; thanks, says Vicky,

although they're with Donna tonight. Frankie and Sharlene give each

other credit for the success of the party, maybe we should start a Frame

family business together. They hug goodbye, I'll miss you.
Meanwhile, Stalker-Cam is sabotaging the engine of Frankie's car.
Frankie says she has to pick up Charlie at the sitter's, and walks

out with the group - Stalker-Cam ducks into the bushes. As the others

get in their cars and drive away, Frankie runs back in for her purse.

She shuts off the lights and locks the door, then gets into her car.

Suddenly she gets a huge scary vibe, and then hears someone whistling

"Muffin Man." A shadowy figure rises from the bushes. FREEZE FRAME [I

WISH...]

That's it,

Vicky (vkorosei@sinclair.edu)
