Paulina brings Dante to Joe in bed. They discuss Sofia. She tells him
Sofia's heart is broken, she needs time. They go to Carlino's, where
Gabe
and Lorna gush over the baby. Lorna tells Paulina they're engaged.

Cindy is interviewed by Rita. She takes particular interest in the
burn
unit. Cindy recognized picture of Chris. They met in Boston. Hmmm ..
keep your eye on that little tidbit. She says she's not ready to leave
Boston, but apparently, Rita is desperate to change her mind. They
want
her to head the nursing team, and they will meet her terms. Rita
answers
a call -- it's time for her meeting with Gabe. Cindy perks her ears.

Cindy calls Gabe and tells him that she's in Bay City on her interview.

Lorna catches the drift of the conversation and wants to take her out
to
lunch. Cindy tells Gabe that they offered her the job, but she's not
sure
she wants it. She looks displeased at the mention of Lorna, and
declines
both lunch with them, and a ride back to the airport. Gabe thinks it
would be great if she moves to town. Rita arrives at the station, fit
to
be tied. She gives Gabe a petition, demanding a higher priority on
the
stalker case. Everyone's too nervous, she says. They're quitting. Do
something. Gabe surprises her as he says he appreciates her support.
He
will use petition to get more money from the department. Gabe tells
her
that Cindy is his sister in law.

Josie tries holding her hand still. No luck. Gary sees a note. She
lies
about what it says, but he reads it. It's her letter of resignation.
He
is upset. He says she can get better and that she's not the only cop
to
get spooked after being shot. Josie says that they will get married
and
start a family, and that maybe this is the best thing. He tells her to
see a therapist. She doesn't want to try to fix it when she might
never
get better. She wants to start her life fresh. She turns it around on
him, saying that she's injured, but he's just giving up on his career
because he's too proud to fight internal affairs. Then, she
apologizes.

He says she might be right about him, but she insists that her career
is
over. She demands her letter back. She storms off into Ozzy's room to
clean it and finds an envelope in a drawer. It is full of bank records
that have the name Jane Ryan on them. Alias for Blair? Blair had told
Josie that she had no money, but they can hardly believe anything she
said. She probably stole it, they surmise. All cash deposits at
regular
intervals, no withdrawals. Blackmail, they decide. Who was her
victim?

Her murderer ? The stalker? Josie wants to go to the bank to
investigate. How can you do that if you quit, Gary asks? She agrees
to
put it on hold and thanks him. All the deposits were to same bank, by
the
docks. Maybe the blackmail victim/murderer was on his way to meet
Blair,
when she ran into Josie. He saw them argue, and shot Blair with
Josie's
gun. Josie finds more in the bottom of the envelope. It's a key.

Nick couldn't sleep last night. He asks Michael if he would have
married
his mom, had he known about her pregnancy. He hems and haws, but no.

Marriage is serious, he says, and he doesn't believe in it unless the
people are friends and they love each other. But, I would have taken
responsibility for you, he adds. It's more important that you're both
there for the baby. Maggie said she wants to keep it, but she will
only
stay in town if we marry, Nick informs him. You have rights, Mike
yells.

She can leave if she wants, she has money, Nick replies. She says she
loves me. But you don't love her. (Well, duh.) I would have given
anything to have you when I was growing up, Nick informs Michael.
Michael
apologizes. It's OK, Nick replies: I know about my baby. You didn't.

Matt visits Sofia. She asks, did Nick and Maggie marry? He says no.
Put
it out of your mind. He's uncomfortable talking about Maggie, because
they're family. Let's talk about your birthday, he suggests. Sofia's
21
today. Paulina runs into Matt at the hospital. She asks him to wait
for
her so they can go see Rachel together. Sofia is thrilled to see her.

She cries. Matt looks in. Sofia says she should never have trusted
Nick
or Maggie. There were signs about Maggie, the whole motorcycle
incident.

Paulina says it's her fault because Maggie had told her that she had
slept
with Nick, but Paulina didn't feel it was her place to tell Sofia, and
she
didn't know how serious they were, or that Maggie was pregnant.
Sofia's
not mad. You told me there were other women. Paulina tells her she
thinks
that Nick loved her and not to blame herself. Sofia says she wouldn't
have believed Paulina anyway. Nothing will help the way she feels.

Paulina says she felt the same way when she thought Josie died. But now
I
have Joe and Dante. Matt comes in with flowers. Happy birthday. Joe
brings Dante in, which cheers her up.

Maggie writes in journal that Nick will soon marry her. She tells
Rachel
and Carl that she is leaving Bay City for good. To put it mildly,
they're
shocked. She says she can't stay there, raising a baby, and watching
Nick
with Sofia. It's too hard. Rachel tells her that everything will be
hard
from now on, and that she should have thought of that before. Maggie
says
she feels worthless and she knows how it feels to have parents who hate
one another. I don't want it that way for my baby, she says. I've
been
thinking about not having it. I went to a clinic. Carl is upset. He
would adopt the baby before wanting her to have an abortion. She says
she's keeping it, but she can't raise it here, she's leaving. Carl is
upset -- why is she leaving. Rachel is more even-keeled. Carl tells
her
to fight. What do you know about love, he asks? She yells at Carl --
if
Nick won't love me, I won't put myself or the baby through it. Wow,
it's
almost as if she believe it herself. Nick bursts in through the oddly
unlocked door -- you don't have to, he proclaims. Carl yells at him,
don't you knock? Don't you lock the door? Nick wants to talk to
Maggie
alone. Carl thinks he's spent enough time alone with Maggie. Rachel
drags him off. Carl asks Rachel if they should ask Maggie for custody.

No. We can't bully them, she replies.

Nick asks Maggie where she would go -- her parents? No way. Nick
says,

I can't let you leave. Maggie replies, I won't stay unless you marry
me.

Nick agrees. She says no. He's surprised. Very smooth, Mags. You
don't
want to marry me, you just want me to stay, she whines. I don't want
to
marry someone who hates me. I don't hate you, he graciously replies.
You
resent me, then. I'll be there for the baby, he vows. Your commitment
is
to the bab, not to me, she says. It's not my first choice, but I will
marry you, he reluctantly says. Let's make the best of it. Maybe
it'll
turn out OK, but we'll give the baby a chance at a family. Nick and
Maggie go to tell Carl and Rachel that they are getting married. They
say
it's a big step. When? Right away, the betrothed couple reply. Maybe
today.
