Well...I'm BAAA-AAAACK...! Narrowly escaped Hurricane-ette Felix down
there at Cape Hatteras (they were selling "I Survived Felix" t-shirts, we
felt like we should have been wearing "I Ran From Felix" shirts instead!).

BUT - Back to Bay City: Here is the Update for Another World for Friday,
August 25, 1995 - all the plots and subplots seemed to overlap each other,
so sometimes it was easier to summarize by location than by storyline.

(I'll be happy to interpret if something wasn't clear, just e-mail me at
the address below.)

* No Wedding Today (No Engagement, Either)
* RoBoJo Makes a Collar - and It's "Dangerous" Jake!
* Justine's Radar In Overdrive; So Is Vicky's Mouth
* Maggie, etc.: More of the Same [Ho-Hum]

THE WEDDING THAT WASN'T
(Paulina, Joe, Jake, Cass, Frankie, Felicia, Lorna, Maggie, John, Ryan,

Vicky, Gary, Josie, Matt, Justine, Minister, Organist)

Paulina and Joe are pronouncing their vows, and Vicky is trying to
signal to Paulina that they need to talk, but it's useless. Suddenly Jake
bursts in; as all heck breaks loose, some people (Matt, Frankie, Vicky,
Joe) are obviously less shocked than the rest! Amid the turmoil, Matt
angrily blocks Jake's path; Ryan grasps Jake's shoulder from behind, and
Jake flails out blindly and busts him in the nose. Then Matt belts Jake,
knocking him down - the only one rooting for Jake seems to be Lorna, as
Vicky goes to look after Ryan. Over Joe's protests, Jake scrambles over
the pews to elude Matt and get to Paulina, who seems to be trying to get
to him, too. As Jake reaches the front, Robo-Rookie Josie slugs him where
he lives - Joe slings Paulina over his shoulder and carries her away,
kicking and screaming, as Josie and Gary restrain Jake.

Maggie tells Cass she thinks it's all the most romantic thing she's
ever seen. Cass asks Frankie what gives, but she just says she'll explain
later. The minister asks Frankie (for some reason) if she should stay or
go - Frankie says she'll have to get back to her on that. Then Frankie
asks Gary to take Jake into custody [huh?], to give Joe time to work on
Paulina. Cass is a little miffed that Frankie never bothered to mention a
little thing like knowing Jake was returning from the dead.

As Matt, Josie and Gary are roughing up Jake in the vestibule, Vicky
sticks up for him, telling Ryan he'd better not prosecute Jake for that
accidental bloody nose - Jake's no criminal, she insists, in fact he
prevented Paulina from being a bigamist by breaking up the wedding. Josie
agrees Paulina can't marry Joe until she divorces Jake, and Jake insists
nobody's divorcing anybody. Gary and Matt raise the idea that Jake faked
his own death to collect the insurance. Vicky tries to explain Jake's
amnesia - although John refuses to confirm such a diagnosis, he has to
admit it's possible after a car wreck. Matt insists he's pressing charges
for assault, Jake calls him a wuss [or however you spell it] - Gary tries
to cuff him, but RoBoJosie shoves Gary aside, claiming it's her collar.

She reads Jake his rights and leads him away in cuffs (to his surprise; he
didn't know she'd become a cop) [see below]. Gary watches, smiling.

In the chapel, Frankie continues to stall Cass and the minister until
she can see how Joe makes out with Paulina. The minister assures the
organist he'll still get paid, wedding or no, and has him play some
background music while they wait - doesn't much matter what. Lorna gets a
kick out of it when he plays "Feelings" - she and Maggie are rooting for
Paulina to pick Jake. John enjoys the music, but he'll have to return to
the hospital soon if nothing happens.

Meanwhile, Vicky gets Ryan alone in the vestibule (he's still waiting
to arrest Justine if she shows up). She tells him she just hired a lawyer
for Jake, admits she's known about Jake's reappearance for a few days but
just got back from London - then she demands to know why he's here, it's
about the Rachel investigation, isn't it? NATURALLY, Justine
[ooo-EEEE-oooo!], newly clued-in by Grant that Ryan is onto her, picks
THAT moment to arrive in the doorway for the non-wedding. She hides just
outside, eavesdropping as Vicky wheedles Ryan into revealing that Rachel
is in the hospital. Vicky exits [see below], telling Ryan she's, uh,
going to check on Jake, yeah, that's the ticket! As the organist plays
"Take Me Out to the Ballgame," Justine slinks off close behind [see
below].

EXCUSES, EXCUSES
Joe, Paulina

Joe totes Paulina to a side room [why didn't he just drag her by the
hair?] and closes the door. He tries to convince her that she shouldn't
try to see Jake, he'll only hurt her again, otherwise he would've come
back long ago. Paulina doesn't believe Jake would hurt her like that,
something must have happened to him or he would have called or something.

Then she realizes Joe already knew Jake was alive, and demands to know why
he didn't tell her. He admits he confirmed his suspicions in San
Francisco, and he decided not to tell her since Jake had turned his back
on her to live it up in S.F. You proposed to me, knowing my husband was
alive? shrieks Paulina - and she belts him across the face [way to go!].

She's livid that he's lied to her yet again, and even angrier to learn
he'd told Frankie but not her. He tries to rationalize that he learned
Jake was living the good life with Allison the Heiress, who told him Jake
had no intention of ever coming back; so he agonized and decided not to
tell her and spoil their happiness, since they belong together. Paulina
argues that she could have dealt with Jake's treachery better than his
death; Joe had no right to make that decision for her, she's not so sure
Joe's actions are proof of any kind of love like Joe claims - I don't even
know you, she wails. She tries to bolt for the door, but he grabs her arm
and blocks the way. She pulls loose, suddenly getting why this wedding
had to happen so fast - Joe didn't trust her with the truth. She's so
disgusted, she vows never to get married again, and gives Joe back her
rings. The engagement is off, from now on what I do is none of your
business, she adds. Since he's blocking the door, she heads out the
window - also, this way she won't have to face the guests. She storms
away, and Joe watches her go, as if in shock.

THE PARTY'S OVER
(Felicia, Lorna, Cass, Frankie, Joe, John, Maggie)

Lorna, tickled that this wasn't just another boring, uneventful
wedding, teases Felicia about how glad she is not to be engaged - despite
the literary success Felicia's had selling the romance idea. Felicia
thinks Lorna's too cynical, love can really happen. Cass again tries to
get details out of Frankie, but she again stalls him and goes to look for
Joe. She bumps into him on his way in, he tells her Paulina just went out
the window. He slogs his way to the front of the chapel and tells the
group thanks for coming but there's no wedding today, Paulina's gone.

This was interesting, says John, as he and Maggie exit; Felicia wants to
stay (with Lorna) in case Frankie needs anything. Cass tells Frankie he
has an appointment with Laurie, but offers to cancel. Frankie says no, go
on, and promises to explain later at home - she needs to be here for Joe.

Cass exits, and Frankie heads for Joe's side as the chapel clears.

Frankie reports to Felicia that Joe is depressed, he and Paulina had
a big fight [duh, what about?]. Lorna is convinced that Jake still loves
Paulina, he'd never give her up to Joe without a fight. Felicia wonders
where Jake's been all this time. Ask Paulina, says Frankie [how would
Paulina know?]. There's nothing they can do, so Frankie sends them home
and returns to Joe. He thanks her for getting rid of everybody, and says
he just needs to be alone. Give her time, it was a shock, she says. She
gives him a hug and exits. He sighs, removes his ring and gazes at it.

Later, Frankie returns to the chapel looking for Joe, but he's gone.

FARM INTERLUDE (optional)
Anita, Luisa, Maggie, Nick, Tom'as

Anita (babysitter) is helping Luisa "bake like Sharlene," when Maggie
enters with Nick [I'm not sure where she picked him up]. Anita takes
Luisa for a bath, and Nick asks Maggie if they can sit outside, it's hot
in here and he's in considerable pain from the bone marrow extraction.

Outside, they sit and he tells her John says he'll be in pain for another
week. They flirt as usual, then Nick gets her to admit she feels
something for him and wants to be with him. You have to tell Tom'as, he
says. Tell me what, says Tom'as, who's just arrived. Maggie gurgles a
little, then Nick says it's about Luisa's baking. Maggie says she just
got back from the wedding that never happened. Tom'as says he saw John at
the hospital, he'd described the whole scene. Nick goads Tom'as about how
things don't always work out the way we plan, then he exits to call
Michael and then lie down inside. Maggie asks Tom'as about work, but he
says they have to talk. Just then Luisa runs out, and Tom'as swoops her
up happily. He sends her back inside; then he kisses Maggie, saying he's
happy she's here when he comes home, Nick doesn't scare him, he loves her
and that's all that matters.

HOSPITAL ROULETTE
Marshall, Morgan, Rachel, Vicky, Ryan, Justine

Marshall [nice to see him, but why was he in this episode?] accosts
the guard at Rachel's hospital room for info about the patient. Morgan
intervenes, insists she just looks like Rachel, it's not really her, and
sends him on his way. Morgan enters the room to find Rachel has dressed
and insists she's leaving, despite police warnings. Try to stop me, she
dares him. Morgan says they still need to stabilize her blood pressure
and liver functions after her ordeal. A nurse enters, protesting that the
guard is missing. While the door is open briefly, Vicky skulks by and
catches a glimpse of Rachel in the room. She grabs a newspaper to hide
her face as she takes a nearby seat in the lobby to observe.

     Morgan has Rachel put on a hospital gown to take her for more tests;

while she changes, he takes her shoes and street clothes and gives them to
the nurse to hide. The nurse exits as the guard returns from the men's
room. Justine, somewhere behind Vicky's line of sight, sees this and
follows the nurse off the ward. The nurse returns with a wheelchair, and
the guard accompanies as Morgan wheels Rachel away. As Vicky muses
about
what's going on, there's a hand on her shoulder - it's Ryan: You promised
you'd stay away from here, he chides. She insists she's just frustrated
because he won't tell her what's going on, so she decided to ask Rachel.

All Ryan will say is that it has to do with his mother, she's alive and
here in Bay City - don't get involved any deeper, it's too dangerous, if
you don't stay out of it I'll have to put you on house arrest. He exits,
and Justine emerges from her hiding place dressed as Rachel. Vicky makes
a beeline for "Rachel," and asks what happened to the tests you were just
wheeled out for. Oh, they decided to release me, coos Justine. What's
with all the secrecy, demands Vicky, does it have something to do with
Ryan? Yes, smiles Justine, and also with Grant, and with you - come, I
want to show you something. Justine exits, with unsuspecting Vicky in
tow.

Justine brings Vicky to her secret house, which she'd mentioned to
Vicky a while back. Vicky thinks it's enormous. Justine invites her in -
you're not afraid, are you? Vicky looks like the whole thing is pretty
bizarre, but says she's not afraid. Justine, smiling, closes the doors
behind them.

NO UNDUE INFLUENCE HERE, EH, MATT?
Josie, Jake, Gary, Matt, Ryan

Down at the station, Josie is attempting to book Jake on disorderly
conduct and resisting arrest, as Matt and Gary look on. Gary wants to
know Jake's insurance company, to see how much he collected for faking his
own death. Jake insists he came looking for his wife as soon as he got
his memory back, but Matt scoffs at his amnesia story. I'm still married
to your sister, Jake snaps. The phone rings, Josie answers it, then tells
Jake he's free to go - the lawyer Vicky hired is right outside. Jake
exits; Gary apologizes to Matt for not being able to hold Jake very long,
and Matt picks up the phone to warn Paulina.

Josie finishes typing up her arrest report and drops it on Gary's
desk; Good job with McKinnon, Gary tells her. She exits as Ryan enters.

Ryan tells Gary to track down Maggie at the Frame farm, don't let her go
back to the Cory house. Fine, says Gary, but can't you tell me what's
going on? You sound like Vicky, moans Ryan, but he decides it's probably
time he explained: It's about my mother...

BET YOU THOUGHT I FORGOT ABOUT PAULINA, EH?
Paulina, Jake

Paulina storms into the house as the phone is ringing; when she hears
her cheery "I'm getting married" greeting, she rips out both answering
machine and telephone, and throws them across the room. She looks at her
wedding dress and trousseau, and decides to give them to charity - then
realizes she's killed the phone, but remembers she has a cellular phone in
her travel bag. She pulls it out and calls "Goodworks" to come and pick
up 3 slightly used wedding dresses and a bunch of other clothes (never
worn), they'll be by to get them in the morning. Then she sees Matt's
honeymoon tickets, takes one out, and decides she could use a solo trip to
Capri about now. She's thrown for a loop when she opens a box to get out
her passport, and finds a picture of Jake. She returns it to the box,
then sits on the couch, distraught. She notices she's still wearing the
necklace Joe gave her.

Later she's on the phone, trying to order a limousine as she hastily
packs for her trip. She's interrupted by the doorbell, so she hangs up
and opens the door. She looks stunned to see Jake standing there [looking
mighty good, I might add]. He walks toward her and they stand face to
face, staring at each other. FREEZE FRAME.
