Joe tries to tell Paulina that Jake is still alive, but she cuts him
off by telling him how much this trip to San Francisco means to
her---it's the trip Jake couldn't give her. Paulina tells Joe she
thinks Jake did love her but that he didn't trust in there love, not
the way Joe does. Joe tells Paulina he wants to head home, and they
head back to the airport.

Jake transfers his holdings to Bay City National Bank. He then visits
an estate lawyer to put his affairs in order before leaving for Bay
City. He requests everything he has to go to Paulina along with a
note telling her that he tried his best to find her. He heads off to
the airport to buy a first class ticket to Bay City. Joe and Paulina
arrive at the airport, and while they are kissing we see Jake sitting
nearby reading a paper.

John checks up on Michael who is exhausted from radiation treatment.
he asks Michael why he is trying so hard to keep Donna in the dark
about his leukemia. Nick asks Tomas to pull some strings so he can
visit Michael in isolation. When Tomas leaves, Maggie shows up. John
won't let Nick see Michael, so Tomas and Maggie help sneak him into
Michael's room. Michael tells Nick he won't die because of Nick's
bone marrow. He tells him that Nick is a good son, and before
leaving, a teary-eyed Nick thanks Michael for finding him.

Ryan arrives in Nice, France at Justine's house. Speaking to the
maid, he tells her he knows that Justine is not dead. The maid brings
him some childhood scrapbooks, and inside he finds a shrine to Grant.
The maid tells Ryan how she has sudden mood changes from meanness to
generosity and divulged that she believes Justine killed the Count.

Grant shows up at Justine's new house seeking comfort---his Brava
story isn't selling. Inside, Justine has the house decorated similar
to her house with Spencer. She consoles Grant by linking his sadness
to his first loss, the loss of his mother. Grant tells her that he
has more memories of his mother than Ryan because he was older. Grant
runs to the door screaming that he can't handle the memories that this
house triggers. He wants to give Kirkland the unconditional love that
Justine gave him. Justine brings him to a room where he discovers his
old baby crib, and he cannot understand why "Rachel" wants Kirkland
over because he's not her grandson. He demand to know what she is
doing when she mentions that she wants this house to be Grant's second
home. (He cannot understand her extreme generosity.) Justine asks
Grant to spend the night in the house, and Grant senses something
weird is going on. She tells him that she believes Carl has given up
on them. When he tells her he's leaving and she can't stop him, she
says "Where's my sweetest boy, mon petit prince, mon coeur?" Turning
around shocked, he asks Rachel how she knew Justine called him that.
She turns and says, "I'm your mother, Grant!"
