The following is the Another World Update for Tuesday, August 1,
1995. Where is the summer going? Anna should be back next week,
so I will update again in two weeks. This was a long day, with
lots happening, so bare with me . . .

Sassy's

Joe is having breakfast and filling Frankie in on Sven (Bunny's
muscleman). Frankie is going over the file on the investigation
and wants to know if information about Sven will change the
outcome. Joe doesn't know. Paulina arrives for coffee and wants
to know what they are looking at.

Confidential, replies Joe they are working on a case. Paulina
says that a PI would not be a good job for her, she can't keep
secrets. Joe asks if it is all right to tell Paulina about
Junior. Frankie agrees and Paulina is thrilled for her. Joe
teases that Frankie has agreed to name the baby Joseph. Paulina
asks if Frankie is sure that it is a boy. Frankie says that it
is still too early, but she has this feeling . . .

Paulina is gushing about how happy Eddie was about her and Joe.

Paulina excuses herself to "freshen up." Frankie questions Joe
about why they are lying to Paulina again. Joe says he just
wants to check it out first, it is no big deal.

We see some guy enter the bar and go to the counter. Frankie and
Joe are still arguing about Sven. Frankie thinks that he is a
career assassin. Joe tells him to relax and Frankie tells him to
watch his back. Frankie has to leave, she has a doctor's
appointment. She leaves. Joe and Paulina sit. They talk about
each other for a few minutes and Joe comes this close to telling
Paulina that he loves her.

Dolan and Ryan enter. Carl's note does not tell them where he
has gone. Dolan doesn't blame him, she wants Ryan to shed some
light on this case, the whole thing is making her nervous.

Especially Beastie. Ryan says that she should. He thinks that
Beastie tried to poison somebody. They discuss Beastie and the
case in general. Dolan says that it sounds as if he is too close
to the investigation and asks if there is somebody he can talk
to. He says that he can't tell his fiancee, so no, not really.

She comforts him by taking his hand and Vic walks in and sees
them. Ryan disengages himself and tells Dolan that Vic is too
close to the investigation too, she is directly involved and that
it could be dangerous. Dolan recognizes that Ryan loves Vic to
pieces. She takes his hands again. Vicky is it, says Ryan as
Vicky storms out of the bar. They talk about the investigation
again, and Dolan agrees to call Ryan if anything new comes up.

They leave.

Paulina and Joe have had breakfast and lunch together. Now what
about Supper? Paulina offers to cook. She is going to leave and
get some stuff done. They get up, arrange for Paulina to stop by
the office later, kiss, and Paulina leaves. Joe is looking
though the file again and goes to use the phone. The guy at the
bar is watching him. Joe is still looking for info on Svenson.

Joe finishes on the phone, and leaves. They guy from the bar
follows, drawing his gun.

Police Station

Buck enters the detective's office. Nick is already there. He
grabs a chair and sits. He explains to Nick that the judge
called in sick and the docket is so backed up that he won't get a
hearing until tomorrow. Nick says then he can leave. Buck says
Guess again. If he books him, will he get a visit from a suit
making five big ones an hour on your behalf? He has been calling
his daddy all night and there is no answer. Maybe he just
doesn't care anymore. Maybe he has finally taken a good look at
his little boy. His two time losin . . He pokes Nick in the
chest and Nick pushes back. Buck stands, grabs Nick and starts
to rough him up a bit when Maggie enters and stops him. Nick has
a visitor, Buck notices, a very pretty visitor. Mags doesn't
appreciate Bucks noticing how she looks. Buck comments on what a
bad girl Maggie is and that he is going to leave them alone to
talk, further commenting on how it must be true love and far be
it for him to stand in the way of true love. They have five
minutes, that's all and it is not a conjugal visit, so keep an
eye on them, he tells the sergeant sitting at the desk and then
leaves.

Maggie asks Nick if he is OK. Nick replies that he is. Maggie
tells Nick that his dad called and is really worried about him.

Nick replies that he doesn't care about Mike. Maggie wants to
know what is wrong with Nick. Nick says that he just got picked
up for speeding, he has a truck with no papers so it is likely he
will be charged with Grand Theft, Auto, he is not in the mood for
a chat. Nick wants to know what Maggie is doing there, why
exactly is she there, and by the way, does Tomas know where she
is. Maggie says that it has nothing to do with her and Tomas.

Nick asks if Maggie has changed her mind, does she want to go
with him, did she discover that life with the disadvantaged isn't
all it is cracked up to be. Maggie takes a swing at Nick, who
stops her. The sergeant advises them to keep it down and asks
Maggie to move away from the prisoner. Nick asks what Maggie is
doing there.

They talk about the kiss. Maggie tells Nick that he is jealous.

Nick says that to be jealous, he would have to want her. He then
asks her to leave. Buck enters. He tells Nick that John is
there to pick him up. John enters and tells Nick that he will
have to pay the ticket. Buck tells him that he will have to do
some community service hours for skipping curfew. John tells
Buck that he will take care of him. Buck asks John if that is a
guarantee, to which John replies that it is. See you next time,
Buck says to Nick and leaves. John asks to see Nick alone and
Maggie says that she has to leave anyway. John starts to say
that his father is worried about him and Nick tells him that he
doesn't want to hear it. John says that he has a lot to say and
that nick is going to listen to him. Nick says that he is not
going back to the farm and John questions if he prefers the
company of Uncle Buck. His father is in trouble. He needs you.

They will discuss it in the car. They leave together.

Hudson Farm

John and Mike have been out all night looking for Nick. Where
could he go, asks John, he doesn't have any money. Mike replies
that he could be anywhere, remember he was in trouble once
already for stealing cars. John advises Mike not to buy trouble
to which Mike replies that he knows that Nick is in trouble, he

can feel it.

John tells Mike that that son of his is one of the toughest kids
he knows. Mike is worried that he won't come back and that he
goes through life thinking that his dad is a junkie. John won't
let that happen. Mike comments on how nice it would be to have
some control in his life. John starts to pressure Mike to tell
the family about his illness. Mike doesn't want the family to
know, he has caused him enough pain and trouble, he has a
daughter that won't talk to him, a son who will have nothing to
do with him, etc and his ex-wife, well she is actually doing the
best of all of them. John interjects with, "Listen, I think I
hear violins." Mike is not amused. John points out that Donna
is concerned about him too, they all are. Had Donna mentioned
something to him, asks Mike. No, but she is concerned, they all
are. He has to tell the family the truth. The phone rings and
John answers it. It is the police station asking John if Nick
was given permission to use the truck. John says that he was and
agrees to come down to the police station. Mike is anxious to
know if the phone call was about Nick and then wants to go with
John to the police station. John tells him that Nick was
arrested for speeding and violating his curfew and that he is
going to the police station by himself. Mike needs to go
upstairs and take his injection, have a bite to eat, and then
while John goes to the police station, have a nap. Mike
reluctantly agrees but asks John to, he doesn't care how, just
make sure that Nick comes home. John reassures Mike that he
will. And then they are going to talk. Mike agrees.

Nick enters, slowly and looks at Michael, who is sleeping on the
couch. Mike wakes and says, hey Nick, you're home. Nick asks
Mike why he didn't tell him he was dying. Mike tells nick that
he was planning on telling him himself, but he guesses that John
beat him to it. John explains that he had to. Mike says that is
OK. Nick says, no it isn't. All that stuff about family, I'm a
member of this family, and family sticks together. Its crap.

You don't talk to each other, you don't trust each other. At
least my mother would tell me when she was having problems. Mike
says that he tried to tell him, but he wouldn't listen, no, he
went out and boosted a car instead. Nick says that it was better
than going off and shooting up somewhere like some lowlife. Wait
a minute, says Mike, I'm the one who is sick, me, and I am
handling this the best that I can. You think I like being sick?

How would I know, replies Nick, you never talk to me. John tries
to interject with some wisdom, but is told by both of them to
stay out of it. Mike asks nick to adjust his attitude. They
discuss the night out on the porch. Nick figures that now they
are even. They talk about how they were pushed together, neither
one of them had a choice. Mike tells Nick that he would have
come for Nick anyway, no matter what his prospects were, and that
he is sorry if he hasn't communicated well. With all that had
happened, he wanted him to feel secure, settled and loved. He is
sorry he didn't tell him about the Leukemia. Nick says he can't
do this. He needs Mike to be straight with him, totally 100
percent. Mike agrees. Nick says he loved his mother, but she
died, and it was hard and if he is going to go down that road
again . . . Tears well up in his eyes and he and Mike embrace.

They talk about the bone marrow transplant. Nick tells us that
his mother died right out of the blue (no warning, she had high
blood pressure). So what happens now. John says that they will
know more after the transplant. Mike is tired and is going to
sleep. Welcome home, he says to Nick and they hug. He thanks
John for bringing him home. John asks if he is ok. Nick replies
no. John asks if he has someone to talk to. Nick replies that
no one sticks around long enough . . .

What happens if you don't find a match? asks Nick. What if a
donor doesn't turn up? John says that it is his best shot and
that no matter what happens, he still has family, him and
Sharlene . . . Nick doesn't seem impressed. John tells him that
his dad is stubborn and it took him a long time to reach out.

Nick says that he needs some air and asks to borrow the truck.

John says on one condition, he uses the keys this time. Nick
exits. Mike comes downstairs. It is urgent that he goes to see
Victoria and tells her before Nick does.

Wallingfords

Cass is explaining to Felicia about pressure points relieving
nausea when the phone rings. Felicia has to leave for an hour,
seems she is selling a building and someone wants to take a look
at it. Maybe she'll stop and see Lorna on her way back. Cass
tells her to go ahead. A woman and Mary (she works for Cass and
Felicia in the bookstore) enter the scene arguing, seems a book
was ordered and the woman really needs it. Turns out she is the
woman from the hospital (the one with the sick boy). Cass
interrupts their argument telling Mary that he will handle it.

He sees who it is, recognizing her right away, and asks her how
her little boy is.

The mother is embarrassed that she forgot Cass. It's ok. She is
looking for a book on child custody. It will be another six
weeks before it is in. Cass assures her that her lawyer will be
able to help her. She says that she can barely afford the book,
let alone a lawyer. Cass asks who is representing her and she
replies herself and that book.

Cass is imparting some legal advice to the mother. He says that
he will call the distributor and see if he will air express the
book to him. She thanks him and tells him that she is going to
find the clerk and apologize. Frankie enters. She has come from
the doctor's office and they are doing fine. Cass tells Frankie
about the Mother. They discuss her and her circumstances.

Frankie says that it is too bad because she is going to need
someone to help her out.

A Building (Harringtons), equipped with a restaurant

Eddie is checking it out. A guy enters and identifies himself,
call me Trey, he adds at the end. Eddie and Trey start to
discuss their views on what should happen to the building. Eddie
remembers coming to "Harringtons" with his wife. They had the
coldest beer in town. Trey sees a sushi bar. Eddie doesn't
think so. The guy tells him that he is thinking of demographics,
they want the movers and the spenders. (We see Felicia enter in
the background, but she is not seen by Eddie and Trey. She
stands and listens. Eddie and Trey do not agree, Trey is
interrupted by the phone. Eddie loses his cool and hangs up the
phone on Trey. He tells him to take his phone, his disrespect
for the dead, your fish etc and stuff it up his pant leg, Trey.

He goes to the door, where Felicia smiles at him and he smiles at
her.

Felicia tells Trey that she has changed her mind. He asks why
and she tells him that her associate must have told him. He
didn't know that Eddie was her associate. He asks if she boxed
him in, the red beamer? She replies that she thinks it was being
towed away when she came in. Trey leaves to rescue his car and
Felicia and Eddie smile and laugh. They officially introduce
themselves. They discuss the restaurant. Eddie asks about
Lorna. Eddie asks Felicia if she is going to open the bar. She
says no, but how about him. He says no. They leave, but Eddie
has been given a seed of an idea.

Cory Mansion

Maggie gets home. Dolan enters after her. Maggie asks if Nick
called. Nick who. Never mind.

Vicky's House

Vic is already up and in the living room. Ryan enters and gives
her a kiss, telling her that he is sorry he was in so late last
night, but he didn't want to wake her. He keeps apologizing to
her for his late nights and all of the hours he is putting in.

Vic is quiet (for a change). Ryan asks if Carl has called (he
hasn't) and Ryan comments that he needs to talk to him. Vic
replies that she is glad he can to talk to somebody. Ryan
finally clues in that Vic is seriously pi**ed off at him says,
Ok, Vic, throw something at me, yell at me, just don't shut down
on me. Vic replies that she isn't the one shutting down, they
have been on different planets lately. Ryan interjects with lets
talk now. Vic says she wants to know what is going on with this
case and she wants the truth because they are in serious trouble.

Ryan tells Vic that he hasn't lied to her. Vic replies that he
is lying to her every time he comes in the door. If he can't
talk to her about (the case) it then what are they doing here?

Whoa, says Ryan, I come home late one night and you are all of a
sudden ready to trash the relationship? Vic replies, This is not
about you being a cop, there is something wrong and she needs to
know what it is. It is the case that he can't talk about. It is
getting to him. They argue, quite intensely, about Ryan shutting
her out. This isn't about you, yells Ryan, this is about the
case. Let's talk about her for a minute, she is the one who
shuts him out, she took off for six months, she is the one who is
mad at her father. He is doing everything that he can, taking
care of the kids, taking care of the groceries, etc and it would
be nice if she would cut him some slack. He is not her father
and he is not leaving. Vic, with tears in her eyes, says that
she is sorry, but she misses him and when he shuts her out like
that, it makes her sad. Ryan melts, but is still angry with Vic.

They sit and Ryan tells her that he doesn't want to shut her
out, but he can't tell her what is going on and she needs to
accept that. She says that maybe they should come up with some
kind of code, like if he has had a really bad day, some way she
can tell. They trade apologies and you are so sweet(s). The
phone rings, and although Ryan wants to answer it, Vic gets to it
first. It is the Detective Dolan and she wants to talk to Ryan.

Vic says that it depends on who it is. Dolan replies that it is
a friend. Vic asks if this particular friend has a name. Lucy
Dolan, she replies. Vic asks Ryan if he know her and he says
that he does and takes the phone. It turns out that Dolan has
found the note that Carl left for Beastie and thought that maybe
Ryan would want to take a look at it. They agree to meet at
Sassy's, Ryan grabs his coat and is on his way out the door when
he is stopped by Vic. Green October, she says, Green October he
agrees, tells her that he loves her, gives her a kiss and heads
out the door. Vic sits there for a minute, then says I can't do
this, I'm sorry, but I can't do this; as she grabs her purse and
heads out the door.

(see interlude at Sassy's)

Vic is standing there with bags packed when Ryan enters. Ryan
asks her where she is going. She says that he is the one going.

Why? He lied to her and she can't live like that. She wants him
out of there before the kids come home. Ryan asks what she is
talking about. Vic says, it's over! She takes off her ring and
hands it to him . FREEZE FRAME
