Compared to last week, not much action, just lots of mind games.

Here is the update for Another World for Friday, August 19, 1994:

Tom'as/Maggie/Angela/Ms. Shaw

Tom'as finds Maggie working at the Surf Bar and breaks the

news that he and Angela are married, but tells her it doesn't mean

anything, they still have a future[!]. He takes off his wedding

ring. Angela arrives with Ms. Shaw. Maggie whispers to Tom'as to

put his ring back on, then she stages a "break-up" scene with him

for Ms. Shaw's benefit. She stalks off, and Ms. Shaw reassures

Tom'as and Angela that Maggie is bad news, they made a mature

decision, and she's rooting for them. Angela invites her to stay

and help them celebrate, but she says she can't stay, she'll stop

by later in the week. She leaves, and Tom'as chews out Angela for

bringing Ms. Shaw here, she almost blew everything. I'll never

trust Ms. Shaw, he tells her, it was only Maggie's quick thinking

that bailed us out. Angela feigns gratitude for Maggie, then

offers to help Tom'as move in to her apartment [is it my

imagination, or is she in Kelsey's old place?]. No, says Tom'as,

I'll get my stuff and meet you there, but now I have to talk to

Maggie. Angela tries to stop him - someone might see you, she

tells him. He says he'll be careful, and he chases off after

Maggie, to Angela's dismay; she leaves. He catches up with her

Maggie and tries to profess his love for her, but she warns him to

keep his voice down, Ms. Shaw or the judge could find out.

Tom'as' marriage seems to have upset her; she says they'd better

make their sham break-up into a real one, so he doesn't risk

losing Luisa. You can't touch me like this anymore, just go home

to your wife, things just aren't going to work out for us. Tom'as

looks hurt, begging her not to give up on them, they'll find a

way. She tells him Luisa has to come first, use your head and not

your heart for once. I'm trying to use both, he answers. She

starts to say I love you, but stops herself and says she has to

learn not to even think it anymore, she needs some dignity. I

wish I could give you everything you deserve, says Tom'as, I'll

love you forever. He kisses her lightly and exits, leaving Maggie

with tears streaming down her face.
Meanwhile, Angela has returned to her place when her lawyer,

Len Bernard, stops by. She tells him that she and Tom'as got

married, and asks whether their prenuptial agreement is binding.

He suggests that since it specified "annulment" rather than

"divorce," it implies they won't consummate their marriage; and

since Tom'as is moving in with her, she has 6 months to solve that

problem. In any case, he tells her, the agreement may not be

binding, plus Tom'as could be up a creek if the judge ever sees

the document. After Bernard leaves, Angela reaches into a

shopping bag, pulls out a slinky new nightgown, and licks her

chops. Some time later, Tom'as arrives with all his worldly

possessions in a duffle bag. Angela has the table set, and has

ordered Chinese food. He's polite, but cool. She pretends

concern about Maggie, then produces a bottle of sparkling cider to

celebrate being that much closer to getting Luisa. He says he

doesn't feel like celebrating after what he's put Maggie through,

and he doesn't want to eat, either. Fine, says Angela, let's just

go to bed. Tom'as insists that Angela keep her normal routine,

she should keep the bedroom and he'll sleep on the couch. thanks

for helping me get Luisa, he tells her. She hides her

disappointment as she heads for her room. In private, she tosses

her nightgown aside and whispers "Tom'as," while out on the couch

Tom'as sits in anguish and whispers "Maggie."

Lorna/Grant/Amanda/Evan

Lorna and Grant are all over each other in her apartment.

Suddenly he breaks away; "I can't do this," he tells her. He

apologizes for leading her on, but Lorna claims they both wanted

it. She talks about how shaken she was reading about her rape in

Felicia's manuscript - she wouldn't even let Felicia into her

apartment tonight, so she must really trust Grant. He's flattered

but flustered, and tells her he's glad he could be there as her

friend. She says she's been trying to rebuild her life after the

rape. Grant: "I wish there was something I could do to take your

pain away." Lorna: "You can. Grant, I mean it - I want it to be

you." Grant tries to let her down easy. She points out that

there's been something between them for a long time, and she knows

he can help her break through this barrier. He admits that he

wants her, but she deserves someone who'll love only her and be

faithful to her - and he loves Amanda. He apologizes for hurting

her; forget it, she says, I'll survive, I always do. He says he

doesn't want to lose her as a friend, he doesn't have very

many[!]. She assures him she'll continue to work for him; "Do me

a favor," she asks, "forget the last hour." As he leaves, she

remarks that he's destroyed an illusion she had, that she could

get any man she wanted if she played it right - "You surprised

me." Grant: "I surprised myself." She says she hopes Amanda

knows how lucky she is. Grant leaves, Lorna turns off the lights

and stands by the window, trying to keep from breaking down.

Evan/Amanda

Amanda is flustered when her memories of Evan are interrupted

by his arrival in her office. She tries to play it cool and talk

business, but he wants to turn the conversation personal. If you

could care less, he says, then why are you so rattled you can't

even look at me? She gives him a long, icy stare. He takes a

file from the table, which he says he forget earlier; she accuses

him of leaving it on purpose. Don't flatter yourself, he says, I

just want my company to succeed, with or without you and Cory.

Then why'd you single out Cory, she asks. Because I wanted to be

in Bay City, he answers, so just tell Grant to relax. She is

surprised when he tells her Grant tracked him down at the spa and

hinted subtly for him to stay away from her. So much for trust,

Evan needles her. She quickly recovers, and says she's thrilled

that Grant is looking out for her, Evan couldn't possible

understand the passion and trust that she and Grant have. Evan

broke up her marriage to Sam, but he won't come between her and

Grant, and she resents his condescending tone.  The phone rings;

it's Alli (see below), and Amanda says she's on her way home.

Alli asks if something's wrong, she sounds weird. Paulina gets on

the line and asks if Evan's there. Amanda, disguising her

response so Evan won't know they're talking about him, says yes,

she's fine and she'll be home soon. She hangs up and tells Evan

she's outa there. As she leaves he grabs her arm - don't go, just

give me a minute, demands. Unhand me, you cad, she says (or words

to that effect), you ruined my life with Sam but Grant and I are

solid. Evan says he's sorry for everything - "Well, maybe not

*everything*" - but he doubts she'll be any happier with Grant

than she really was with Sam, she needs to be able to cut loose

like she and Evan did. He says he remembers every time they made

love - he told her she'd always dream about him, and now it's like

he never left. She stares at him, transfixed. Then she comes out

of her trance and snaps that she hasn't thought about him in years

except to curse him, her dreams are none of his business, and she

has everything she wants and needs. She walks out. Not

everything, Evan smirks to the empty room - "not yet."

Maggie/Lorna/Evan

At the Surf Bar, depressed Maggie waits on depressed Lorna,

who guesses that she, too is upset over a guy - what'd he do, she

asks. He got married, Maggie answers - you're experienced, what

do you do when your guy is with someone else? Make a clean break,

Lorna advises, especially if there are kids involved. She spots

Evan, and goes over to tell him she accepts his job offer, and

they can negotiate her contract over racquetball tomorrow morning.

Prepare to lose, she tells him. He accepts; as she exits, he

smiles. Later, Maggie accidentally knocks into Evan as she goes

through the motions of working; she apologizes and moves on. Evan

pulls out his phone and punches in a number (see below).

Jake/Paulina/Alli/Grant/Amanda

Jake arrives at the mansion on his motorcycle, anxious to

whisk Paulina away for a special evening. She tells him she can't

go, she's baby-sitting with Alli, but they can neck on the couch.

He shifts gears and decides location doesn't matter; in the middle

of a hot clinch, he reaches behind his back and produces the

engagement ring Paulina had thrown in his face when she dumped him

at the altar. She's thrilled that he kept it. He sits her on his

lap, telling her he couldn't get rid of it because it was all he

had left of her - although he thought of throwing it in the

garbage a few times when he saw her "getting it on" with "Jungle

Jim." She protests that she thought Jake was in the past at the

time; "Just kidding - basically," he answers. What about the

cheerleading squad of women you were flaunting around town, she

counters. I was trying to get over you, but it didn't work, he

tells her. Same here, she admits. They kiss; he suggests that,

since this was the place she had dumped him, it was the perfect

place for a new start. He slips the ring on her finger. They

kiss again; as the heat is building, Alli interrupts to ask Aunt

Paulina why Mommy is working so late.
A frustrated Jake and Paulina finally bribe Alli to go get

ready for bed by promising her a piggyback ride later. Left

alone, they get cozy on the floor and anticipate the fun of

bribing their own kids someday. Paulina seems distracted; Jake

jokes that she's bored with him already, but she says she's

worried about Amanda with Evan. Jake thinks Grant and Amanda are

solid, but Paulina reminds him that she thought she was solid with

Ian, too; Jake and Paulina could never really forget each other,

and neither can Amanda and Evan. The difference is, Jake is a

prince (Charming or Valiant? he asks), while Evan is poison. As

they roll around on the floor, Alli enters. "Who's Evan?" she

asks - just as Grant walks in, looking constipated.
Paulina tries to explain how Evan is related to cousin Jamie,

as Grant listens uncomfortably. Amanda enters; Alli wants her to

play, but Amanda says it's late and sends her to bed with the

promise of a special breakfast tomorrow. Alli asks if Grant is

having another sleepover, then demands that Paulina finish her

story (it's about the princess and her magic engagement ring,

giggles Paulina, wiggling her ring finger to show G & A. Alli
reminds

Jake that he promised her a piggyback ride. Hop on, he says; he

and Paulina kiss - "No mushy stuff! Up the mountain," pipes in

Alli, and the three of them bound upstairs.

Later, when everyone has retired for the night, Jake brings

Paulina out to the pool and suggests they go skinny dipping. As

they undress, she asks him how many women he slept with while they

were apart. She is stunned when he admits there was no one but

her. He kisses her, then they head gleefully to the pool.

Amanda tells Grant she saw Evan tonight, but Grant already

knows. It gets worse, she tells, him - guess who owns Arlington

Agency, and it would cost us millions to break the contract, so

we're stuck working with Evan. Then she tells him about Evan's

"return engagement" after the meeting, and how she told him she

and Grant were so happy so he could just bug off. (Grant

conveniently forgets his close encounter with Lorna.) They switch

off the lights and head upstairs. After making love, Amanda purrs

about how glad she is that they can be so honest with each other

[gag - she even has the nerve to bring up her grandmother - Ada's

probably turning over in her grave!], but Grant has fallen asleep

[no conscience problems here...]. Her phone rings; it's Evan,

just calling to say goodnight. She hangs up on him; Grant stirs

and asks who called. No one, Amanda answers, I'm unplugging the

phone. As they hold each other, Amanda looks with distress at the

phone, then up at the ceiling, as Evan's face is superimposed in

the lower right corner of the screen. FREEZE FRAME.

Thanks for listening; interesting developments for Grant and

Amanda, couldn't happen to a nicer couple [editorial comment]!
