I'm sorry, I tried to make this shorter like my last one but it

ended up more trouble than it was worth, so I'm just going with

the long version (tough beans...) - Yours truly, V.

Here is the update for Another World for Friday, August 5, 1994:

Tom'as/Maggie/Angela/Cass

At the custody hearing, Tom'as tells the judge he and Angela

want to get married and raise Luisa together. Cass tries to

interrupt this disaster, with no luck. Angela backs him up, with

God's help they'll make good parents for Luisa. Maggie fumes from

the back and finally bolts out. The judge warns those crazy kids

of the penalty for perjury, then says she needs time to consider

this new development. She orders that Luisa stay with the

Griffins for the time being, and adjourns. Both Angela and Cass

want to talk to Tom'as, but he chases out to find Maggie. Cass

tells Angela he hopes God was listening, she'll need all the help

she can get.
Tom'as finds Maggie at the Old Mill bridge. Tom'as: "Why'd

you run out?" Maggie: "Are you kidding me?" Tom'as tries to

reassure her he just said he'd marry Angela so he could get

custody of Luisa, but that it won't come between him and Maggie.

[Excuse me?!?] Maggie says she came her because this was where

they had planned to be together for the first time; she's dreamed

of what it would be like, but Angela already knows. Tom'as

promises everything will work out, and they kiss a little, but

Maggie sees trouble ahead and doesn't think she can be

understanding about it. She runs off again.
Tom'as returns to the courtroom. Only Cass is still there,

obviously onto Tom'as' scheme. Think it will work? Tom'as asks.

Cass laughs wryly - You're in it now, for better or worse, as they

say. He might get Luisa, but he stands to lose a lot in the

process.
Meanwhile, Maggie pays a visit on a smug Angela. She wipes

the smug look of her face by pushing her back on the couch - if

you think I'm going away without a fight, think again!

Grant/Amanda/Lorna/Stranger (Evan?)

The stranger gets a phone report from Forbes regarding the

goings-on at Tops. He couldn't be more pleased, and says he's

planning a surprise for Lorna as soon as she gets to her car.
Grant and Amanda are making out in the elevator on their way

to Tops. As soon as they enter, Lorna pounces and says they have

to postpone the wedding for at least a year, after the scene Carl

and Rachel caused a few minutes ago. She tells them Carl has his

memory back, and he and Rachel had a very public argument; with

the media attention this is sure to attract, the tabloids are sure

to smear Grant with Carl's criminal reputation, as his

almost-in-law. Amanda and Lorna snipe at each other a while, then

Lorna goes to try to find Rachel and make sure she's all right.

Grant warns Lorna that his personal life is none of her business;

she says he's being naive, public figures have no private life.

He threatens to fire her if she doesn't lay off Amanda, and she

threatens to quit if he tries to censor her. She storms off.

Amanda comes back later, and she and Grant decide to go dancing at

the Harbor Club (again making out in the elevator).

Lorna, furious after her confrontation with Grant, is even

more upset to find that her car won't turn over. She gets out and

collides with the stranger, which scares her to death (what with

her history). When she gets over her panic, she rails against men

in general and her boss in particular; she begrudgingly accepts

Stranger's offer to work on her car, and he gives her some advice

about how to get along, play the game, have fun, lighten up, etc.

By the time he finishes, he's gotten a little to cocky for her

comfort, and she starts to get suspicious. She hands him a $20,

so she won't owe him anything; and he disappears without a trace.

Carl/Rachel/Amanda/Ito

After the argument at Tops, Rachel rushes back to Cory with

Carl close behind. She locks herself in Amanda's office and Carl

tries to talk with her through the door. She says she won't

tolerate his lying to her; he reminds her he gave up his whole

former life for her, but she's not impressed.  The phone rings;

she answers it, and it's Carl calling on his portable phone from

outside the door! He admits he lies (but doesn't apologize); she

says she lived through losing Mac, and she doesn't want to lose

Carl too, but he's risking his life and lying to her about it.

She hangs up on him, then opens the door and they talk briefly.

He maintains he was trying to protect her; she counters that she

doesn't need protection, she needs the truth - he apparently can't

give her that, so good-bye. She closes the door in his face.
Carl returns to his abandoned apartment - sheets cover all

the furnishings, but Ito is there as always. Ito senses that Carl

has recovered his memory, and guesses that something happened with

Rachel. Carl puts on some opera, quotes some Shakespeare, and

pulls the sheets off the furniture defiantly - then he stops in

his tracks, dejected. Ito brings him some tea and loses a game of

chess to him, trying to cheer him up. Carl appreciates his

loyalty and friendship; Ito assures him Rachel loves him, he

witnessed her devotion first-hand at the hospital in NY. He gets

Carl to talk himself into taking action to get Rachel back. Carl

makes a phone call, waking the guy up and saying he needs a

special favor - tonight!
Amanda shows up at Cory, and she and Rachel do some

mother-daughter bonding. Amanda actually sympathizes about

Rachel's troubles with Carl now that she knows they're really in

love(!). Amanda talks about what went wrong between her and Sam,

her affair with Evan and the importance of honesty between her and

Grant. Rachel says honesty is the problem she's having with Carl,

but Amanda should forgive herself for what happened with Evan.

Amanda goes back to join Grant at Tops (see above).
Carl reappears at Rachel's (Amanda's) office door, only this

time he has a big bouquet of flowers and Judge Rubenstein. He

asks Rachel to marry him tonight. She says he's crazy; he agrees,

and renews his proposal. Rachel is overcome with shock, and claps

her hands over her face. FREEZE FRAME.

Hope this gets through, we've had a lot of trouble with our system

lately...
