Another World, Wednesday, August 3

Most of this episode dealt with Jake, interspersed with Luisa's
custody.

ANGELA, TOMAS, LUISA, etc.

Angela is talking to a lawyer, KBAY's legal consultant, about
getting custody. Maggie is eavesdropping after having snuck the
videotape back into the studio. When the lawyer leaves, she
confronts Angela about the videotape, saying she's having it
checked for fingerprints.

Luisa goes to visit the judge. Cass and Tomas talk about Tomas'
chances. Cass points out that Tomas and Angela both signed away
their parental rights and that Tomas' argument about his having
raised Luisa won't wash; it was Tomas' mother who adopted and was
the parent, and then Kate. Cass also says that with her temper,
her mouthiness, and her not being a `mother figure', Maggie is a
liability. At that point Maggie walks in and asks `What did I
miss?' She tells them that Angela has gotten herself a lawyer.
Cass recognizes the name and gets worried. He goes to phone the
lawyer. Tomas runs off and confronts Angela. She gives him the old
sob story: I've never lied to you Tomas, I'm just trying to help.
Maggie is just so ... you know I've really tried with her. Luisa
is what is important. I know she'll be safe with you. Naturally
Tomas buys it and apologises for losing his temper. After he
leaves, Angela heads straight for the lawyer.

Cass blows up when Maggie tells him that Tomas went to talk to
Angela. Tomas comes in and repeats Angela's story. Cass said the
lawyer wouldn't tell him anything except that he hadn't been
retained at that point. Maggie slams Angela, and Tomas blows up at
her, saying if she can't support him then to back off.

Maggie cries and Tomas apologises "but it's the system that's after
me not Angela." And we cut to Angela thanking the lawyer for his
help and will they have time to file the motion. The lawyer asks
if she's sure she wants to do this, raising a baby is a big
responsibility, and she'll probably have to testify in court.
Tomas tells Maggie that he'll do anything to keep Luisa and if that
means letting Angela testify on his behalf then he will. Maggie
says she wishes Tomas could see how manipulative Angela is.

GRANT, AMANDA, LORNA

Amanda gets her times mixed up and forgets Allie's Parents Day.
Grant walks into the office with a glowing Allie, saying how great
Grant was. There was mostly small talk, although there was one
exchange where they ask Allie if she'd like to live in the White
House. She's only interested in if it's true they there's a bowling
alley there. Allie leaves to visit Rachel, and Lorna walks in as
Grant and Amanda are kissing. She wants to know why Grant sent the
photographers away from the Parents Day. She asks if Amanda is
running his life now. Grant accuses Lorna of being a reason Vicky
took off with Kirk. Lorna and Amanda get into a catfight. When
Grant leaves for a phone call, they discuss Lorna's sudden
employment offer from an ad agency that Cory uses. Amanda asks
what upsets Lorna more, the thought of losing Grant or of losing
her job. When Lorna says she doesn't have Grant to lose, Amanda
asks why Lorna is constantly interfering between her and Grant.
She warns Lorna that she can't have Grant and if she's not careful,
she won't have a job with him either.

Later Amanda talks to Allie about marrying Grant. Allie wants to
know where they'd live. In Grant's house, next door to grandma and
Grant likes dogs so you could have a puppy, Amanda bribes.

Meanwhile Grant meets Lorna at Topps, trying to gloss over Amanda's
hostility. Lorna asks where she stands with him. He says he really
wants her on his team. Then you'd better tell that to Amanda and
back me up sometimes.

JAKE

Still trapped in the car, Jake finally gets the car phone to work
but the 911 operator doesn't believe he's really being kidnapped.
He notices a videotape with his name on it and plays it. Surprise,
it's Paulina. [this was well done, showing just how well Paulina
knows him]. After an appropriate pause for Jake's angry outburst,
Paulina asks "Are you done screaming yet?" Jake yells NO, etc as
Paulina counts to 10 on her fingers. She then says Jake's going on
a trip. "What, a trip, I don't even have my toothbrush!" "Let's
see, you're either worried about your blow dryer, your toothbrush,
or your tennis shoes, right?" She tells him she's taken care of
everything and to sit back and relax or he won't be able to enjoy
it when they get together.

Jake is now in a plane eating `rabbit food'. He complains to the
copilot, who tells him of course there's a kitchen. They just
finished chicken dinner, but that wouldn't be a good thing for
Jake. Jake speculates on a feast that Paulina has waiting for him,
in... he trails off and the copilot obliging supplies upstate NY.
How romantic, says Jake, thinking of the cabin in the woods. Where
do we pick up the chopper? The copilot looks blank and gives him
a gift-wrapped tape recorder, saying "Good luck, I think you're
gonna need it." "What are you talking about? I'm involved with the
most incredible woman in the world, what else do I need?" "Guts",
replies the copilot.

Jake plays the tape. Paulina says there's only one place to give
him his answer, back where they restarted. But there's a problem.
All the choppers in the area are booked solid, so I made other
arrangements. The copilot comes in with a big gift wrapped package.
Jake stops the tape and asks if the plane can land in the forest.
No says the guy, restarting the tape. Paulina tells Jake he'll
have to remember how much he trusts her. The tape ends. So what's
in the box, Jake asks. "I'll give you a clue. It's made of silk."
Jake laughs, "Silk, so what is it, a parachute?" At the guy's
look, Jake's expression changes. "Please, you're not serious."
"We'll give you explicit instructions." "Great, a 10 minute suicide
lesson." He rages on about there being no way he was jumping out
of the plane.

Jake stumbles through the door of the cabin carrying his parachute
and with branches clinging to him, yelling for Paulina. He finds
and reads a note, interspersed with his commentary.

P: Dear Jake, What a brave guy you are. How many men would jump out
of a plane for the woman they love?

J: None. Make that one, one who needs his head examined.

P: I hope you had a soft landing 'cause there's one more leg of the
journey to do.

J: I don't have any legs left anymore, cause I left them in the top
of that oak tree that cushioned my fall.

P: I'll be waiting for you on top of the cliff, you remember, the
one we jumped off hand in hand after I learned to trust you again.
See you soon.

J: That's just great. Because after I push you off that cliff,
there not a jury in this country that would convict me.

He goes out the door, tripping in the parachute as he goes. He
finds Paulina on top of the cliff. (Freeze Frame)
