Vicky's sudden marriage proposal leaves an
astonished Jake speechless. Assuring him she's not
acting on the spur of the moment, Vicky reminds Jake
how she's always loved him and has always wanted him
near her. Meanwhile, Shane returns from Chicago and
storms over to Lila's place upon learning that she
has yet to sign their separation papers. Jake tells
Vicky that although he wants nothing more than to be
with her forever he cannot marry her because he
knows she's still in love with Shane. Cass' rough
cross- examination of Toni draws objections from
Dana and loud gasps of disapproval from many of the
courtroom spectators. After the judge restores
order, Cass again pressures Toni to admit that since
she never actually saw her attacker's face she could
well have leveled accusations at the wrong man.
Though finally forced to agree that a slim
possibility of error might exist, Toni stubbornly
maintains that she knows Nick raped her. Lila
tearfully informs Shane that she can't let him go.
Jake asks Vicky to talk things over with Shane, then
promises to wait at the playground for her answer
until sundown of the following day. District
Attorney Hamilton takes over the prosecution's case
and calls Toni's partner to the stand. An enraged
Chris nearly comes to blows with Tyrone after the
attorney suggests that Toni made a mistake in
identifying Nick. Josie and Gary unwittingly plan
      separate fact-finding trips to Chicago.
