Here's the doings in Bay City for July 23, 1996...

GARY/JOSIE/OZZIE

Josie is practicing aiming with her bad hand, which is not as shaky as
it
once was. Gary encourages her in the idea that maybe she's all better.
Josie asks him to be truthful -- Is he glad that this happened to her?
After all, she knows he'd like to see her off of active duty. Gary
assures
her that he never would have wished this on her, all he wants is for
her to
be happy. They hear a glass breaking in the other room and rush out,
it's
only Ozzie having dropped an old coffeepot. They reassure him that he
can
stay with them, and he asks "Forever and ever?".....

NICK/MATT/SOPHIA/MAGGIE/RAPHAEL

Nick and Sophia both call Matt at home separately, with identical
stories of
having the flu and not being able to come in to work. Maggie walks in
while
Matt is still on the phone with Sophia and takes the phone, trying to
convince
Sophia that she has something important to tell her. Sophia tells
Maggie that
she has no time to talk now, and hangs up. Maggie is frantic wondering
what
Nick and Sophia are planning. Outside on the terrace, she collars
Raphael
and asks him if he knows what the lovebirds are up to. Raphael
eventually
admits to Maggie that Nick and Sophia have been thinking of getting
married,
and he advises Maggie to give it up.....

JOHN/FELICIA/JOE/GABE/LORNA

Outside Lorna's hospital room, Joe and Gabe confer about the case.
It's
been confirmed that fiber samples taken from the scene of Lorna's
attack
matched the other killings...it's indeed another Stalker attack. Joe
goes
back outside to continue the investigation. John tells Lorna that she
can
go home later that night. Felicia soothes Lorna, and retrieves the
gold
chain from the nightstand and hands it back to Lorna. Gabe comes in
and
sits by Lorna's bedside for a while. He wants Lorna to go with Felicia
to
Hollywood while the Stalker is still at large, but Lorna refuses to go
--
after all, how would it look if she, the hospital's publicity director,
was
so paralyzed by fear that she just took off? Besides, she's the only
survivor of the Stalker and she may be yet able to help the police in
some
way.

JOSIE/FRANKIE

Frankie comes by unexpectedly -- Gary hustles Ozzie into the bedroom
just in
time. Frankie tells Josie that there is tons of planning yet to be
done for
the wedding, and she's not leaving until they get some of it done.
Frankie
and Josie spend a considerable time picking out this and that for the
wedding.
Josie hasn't chosen her bridesmaids yet, but she asks Frankie to be her
matron
of honor. Frankie accepts, and asks if Charlie can be a flower girl.
Josie
says of course. Frankie hears Gary say something in the other room,
but Josie
says he must be talking on the phone. Finally Frankie leaves.....

JOE/VARIOUS OFFICERS/FAX

Fax comes out with a tray of coffee for the officers, courtesy of the
nursing
staff. Joe thanks him. Fax asks if they're making any progress on the
case,
and Joe says he can't comment on an ongoing investigation. Joe chews
out
Officer O'Leary for complaining about tiredness, and exhorts all the
cops to
really comb the area for all possible clues, no matter how
insignificant...

NICK/SOPHIA

Obviously nervous, Nick babbles on about this and that while Sophia is
getting
dressed. Finally she comes in wearing the white dress Maggie gave her,
and
a white bridal veil. She worries if it's fancy enough, but Nick
assures her
she looks perfect. He asks her if she has any second thoughts, and she
says
absolutely not, she wants to marry him more than she's ever wanted
anything
in her life....

FAX/MORGAN/LORNA

Fax ambles by the closed door to Lorna's hospital room and tries to
hear what
is being said inside. Morgan comes by and makes an offhand remark to
Fax, but
Fax is obviously distracted. As Fax is leaving, Morgan says "I'm on to
you"
and Fax asks him what he means by that. Morgan says that Fax is too
busy
dreaming about becoming senior resident, but too bad -- he hasn't an
ice pack's
chance in hell. Fax gets a look on his face like he has indigestion,
and
walks away. A bit later, Morgan visits Lorna's bedside and chats with
her a
bit, saying that he's sorry that this had to happen to anyone, but
especially
her. Lorna tells Morgan that the attack wasn't like the rape -- back
then she
was drunk and half asleep, but during the Stalker's attack she was
totally
terrified, and then she got angry. She says the whistle Gabe gave her
saved
her life, and Morgan remarks that Courtney carried around a can of
pepper
spray, but it didn't help her any....

MATT/CARL

Matt and Carl get into it about Carl's propensity for hiring young,
beautiful
girls as "protegees" -- first Lorna, then Blair, now Sophia. Matt
warns Carl
that he had better not have any ideas when it comes to Sophia, and Carl
scoffs
at the very notion. Carl remarks on the irony that Lorna is now
marrying a
police captain, and why, Blair was a policewoman herself, in Clearview.
Matt
says that was until she got mixed up with a bad element, and it was
operated
out of Chicago, not Clearview. Turns out Matt is planning a trip to
Chicago
himself. Carl recommends a restaurant on Lake Shore Drive. Matt then
brings
up the accusation that Carl paid Blair money to get out of town, and
Carl
vociferously denies doing anything of the kind....

GABE/LORNA/MATT

Somewhat later, Matt visits Lorna in the hospital. Matt tries to ask
Lorna
some questions about the attack, but Gabe interferes and refuses to let
the
press become involved. Matt says he's there as a friend. They glare
at each
other for a minute, but then Gabe says he has a favor to ask of Matt.
Later
after Matt has left, Gabe tells Lorna that when she gets out of the
hospital
he knows the perfect place where they can stay...Matt has agreed to
loan them
his cabin. Lorna asks the Captain if he's taking her to a love shack,
and he
says he certainly is...

CARL/RAPHAEL

Carl is sitting on the terrace, trying to light a cigarette. Finally
he gives
up, remarking on what a nasty habit it is. Raphael comes in, and Carl
tells
him it's payday once again. Carl lifts up the ashtray and there's a
stack of
hundred dollar bills underneath. Carl says to go ahead and take it,
how much
does he feel like he's earned this week? Raphael takes around nine or
ten
of the bills. Carl makes a comment about the history that can be
carried in
a hundred dollar bill -- first he gave that money to Blair, then
Raphael found
it and gave it back to Carl, now Carl is giving it to Raphael....as
he's saying
this, Carl is slowly taking each bill from the remaining hundreds and
crumpling
it up into the ashtray. Finally he takes a bill and lights it, and
sets fire
to the others, all the while giving Raphael a meaningful stare...

GARY/JOSIE/MORGAN/OZZIE

Gary and Josie agree that it's impractical for Ozzie to continue to
stay
with them, especially while people will continually coming to the house
to
help with wedding plans, and then of course they'll be off on their
honeymoon.
Morgan comes by with Josie's heating pad, which she left at the
hospital.
Josie says she didn't have to bring it over, but Morgan says that now
he has
free time, since John has insisted he take a vacation. Over Gary's
protests,
Josie decides to tell Morgan about Ozzie. She calls Ozzie out of the
bedroom
and introduces him to Morgan, saying to Ozzie that Morgan is going to
be his
new best friend....

SOPHIA/MAGGIE/NICK

Maggie busts into Sophia's room and finds the bridal veil on the
dresser.
Sophia comes back in and is extremely surprised to find Maggie there.
Maggie
is furious, making snide remarks to Sophia about Is a bridal veil an
old
Italian cure for the flu? and Does that dress count as something
borrowed
or something new? Sophia is taken aback by Maggie's anger, and tries
to
apologize for upsetting her. Maggie says she was so worried about
Sophia that
she drove all the way out here, and what does she find? She asks
Sophia if
she and Nick have already tied the knot, and Sophia says not yet, but
she
has to go now, she'll talk to Maggie later. Maggie prevents her from
leaving
by refusing to give back the veil. Maggie says "I'm sorry, Sophia, I
really
am, but I have to tell you the truth before it's too late." "The truth
about
what?" Sophia asks, just as Nick appears in the doorway and Maggie
replies
"The truth about Nick".....FREEZE FRAME.
