Although we weren't pre-empted by O.J., we did lose the first 5

minutes due to the President's press conference on Rwandan relief.

If I've missed anything vital, I hope someone will fill in...

FELICIA, MARSHALL, DANA, BILLY
Marshall comes over to Felicia's to make nice after their

testy meeting with Amanda, but still has his usual big attitude.

Felicia accuses him of being defensive because he can't accept

women in authority - not Felicia, not Amanda, probably not even

his daughter Dana. He finally apologizes for acting like a

jackass, and asks Felicia to dinner at Antonio's. She accepts,

but doesn't want to support her competition, so she picks Tops; he

agrees. As they walk in, they hear Dana and Billy in heated

argument about whether Dana should quit the P.D.'s office and go

to work for Cass. It's all Felicia can do to keep Marshall from

interfering. When he hears Billy accuse Dana of planning to sell

out, he tears across the room and demands that Billy apologize to

Dana. "Excuse me, but who the hell do you think you are?" Dana

asks him, to Felicia's delight. Dana tells Marshall she can stand

up for herself. Felicia assures Dana she'd love working with her

best friend, Cass [who wouldn't? Hubba-hubba ;-)]. Marshall

demands to see the contract before she signs it. "Why don't you

re-phrase that?" Felicia urges him in legal-ese. She gets him to

apologize, but Dana is still leery of his attitude.
Later, Dana stops by their table on her way out. Marshall

asks her to a concert with him; she says she'll check her

schedule, and exits. Marshall takes this as a rejection, telling

Felicia how he was always too busy to be there for his daughter

when she needed him growing up, now he's getting paid back, but

he'd trade all his business success for a chance to do it over.

Felicia suggests he could start by observing Dana in court. If

Felicia Gallant can forgive me, he says, anything's possible.

GRANT, AMANDA, LORNA, RYAN, SPENCER
In Amanda's office, Lorna shows off a newspaper article about

Ryan's capture of Barry and rescue of Jake & Paulina. She's planted
a

paragraph implying Ryan may have been hurt - good way to get Vicky

to surface, as Grant wanted. Amanda attacks Lorna's ethics in

fabricating news, and Grant backs Amanda. Lorna reminds him he

has an interview tonight at the Harbor Club. Grant asks Amanda to

join him there for dinner, and Lorna leaves in a huff to go to the

Club.
At the Harbor Club, Ryan explodes at Spencer over the news

article, blames Grant, and wonders if Spence were involved.

Spence says no, and invites him to Grant's fundraiser. "I'd

sooner switch parties," Ryan retorts. He and Spence have words

about family loyalty, and Ryan walks away. Spence greets Amanda

and Grant's arrival, and Ryan joins them and makes snide remarks

about the article. Amanda and Grant deny their involvement; Lorna

comes over and takes the blame, but it could get Vicky's attention

if she thought Ryan were hurt. Ryan gets even angrier at Grant,

and tells Lorna her plan didn't work. Lorna takes Grant aside and

reams him out for not backing her with Amanda, after he had told

her to do whatever it takes to find Vicky - do that again, and

you're on your own, she snaps.

After Grant's interview, Lorna accuses him of letting Amanda

call all the shots, treating Lorna as a lackey. Spence comes up

and tells Grant that Amanda's waiting for him, then tells Lorna

she should take a vacation. Gladly, she sneers, and exits. Grant

and Amanda talk lovey-dovey, and Amanda describes her home

problems - what to tell Alli, and what to do about Carl, who's

moping around over Iris's arrest. Grant tells Amanda he's set

Lorna straight about her tactics, but she's good for his career.

Amanda is dubious. More kissing.
Ryan goes home (Vicky's house), frustrated because the mail

has nothing from Vicky. The doorbell rings, and Lorna enters:

"Expecting someone blonde?" she says. Ryan fumes. She again

takes the blame for the news article, don't be mad at Grant - oh,

by the way, heard from Vicky? None of your beeswax, Ryan tells

her. Lorna implies that if she hasn't tried to reach him by now,

maybe he should just move on. Ryan explodes - Vicky is off limits

to you and to Grant - tell him, or I'll tell him myself - AT THE

FUNDRAISER! Lorna claims that Grant and Ryan are a lot alike -

they both have lousy taste in women. (No jealousy, of course.)

IAN, JOSIE, SPENCE, LILA
Ian and Josie talk with Annie the Apple Lady, who agrees to

keep an eye out on the streets for Sharly. Ian offers her some

surplus food, but Spence comes along and chases her off. Ian

stands up for her, but Spence lays down the law and walks off.

Josie assures Ian he was in the right, and encourages him to try

to buy Spencer out. Ian claims he can't afford it - when he can't

take it anymore, he'll just quit. Josie says that's no answer,

and keeps at him all evening about how he should value himself

better, he'd be a great owner.
Later while Ian is tending bar, Lila approaches and coos

about how close she and Spence are getting. Spence comes up,

gives her an envelope full of protection money, and gets her

cooperation in not spoiling Grant's fundraiser. Pour Lila a

brandy, he tells Ian. Do it yourself, Ian answers, and goes over

to console Josie about her missing mom. Spence chases him down

and says be nice to Lila or else look for another job. Ian offers

to give Josie the rest of the night off, but she says she'd rather

be near him.

CARL & RACHEL
Carl and Rachel talk about his ability to remember only

flashes of his former life (like knowing instinctively how to play

chess). He says he's afraid he'll never get his memory back; she

says he (they) won't fail, and he begs her to help him. Carl

apologizes for flaunting his feelings for Iris in front of her -

Iris seemed wounded and flawed, and he felt the same way without

his memory. Rachel assures him that Iris hated him and tried to

kill him over Cory Publishing, but she's in jail now, nothing to

be afraid of. Carl remarks that, when Rachel's not yelling at

him, she's the only one who looks at him, not with fear, but with

real warmth and affection. But I don't know why, he gasps. She

takes his face in her hands and kisses him. He finds it pleasant,

but she realizes it had no affect on him. She apologizes and runs

upstairs. Carl takes his leather carry bag and jacket, pausing to

pick up Rachel's picture. "You're more than I bargained for - and

I'm no bargain at all," he says to it. He replaces the photo and

exits through the terrace doors.

Carl wanders around trying to raise cash for Iris's bail with

the Cory checks Amanda gave him. At the waterfront, he offers a

stranger one of the checks in exchange for helping him cash the

others. The stranger leers greedily. He comes back later, saying

the banks are closed, no one believes I'm Hutchins, and I know

you've got more money - hand it over! He clonks him over the head

with a crowbar [how rude!].
Later, Grant takes Amanda home and they agree to meet for

breakfast before Iris's arraignment tomorrow [we know all about

arraignments, don't we?]. Rachel hears the door shut as Grant

leaves, and she rushes down hoping it's Carl. She tells Amanda

that Carl's missing, and she's afraid she drove him away.

Dissolve to Carl lying unconscious on the docks, blood trickling

across his forehead from the wound on his temple. FREEZE FRAME.

That's the scoop, guys!
