Here is the "action-packed" update for Another World, for

Friday, July 15, 1994:

Harbor Club - Josie arrives late for work. Ian gives her a

cool reception, just telling her to change for her shift. She

apologizes for telling him to bug off earlier, and asks for a

chance to start over. At first he tells her he's her boss, not

her therapist, but then he apologizes for being so hard on her.

She says don't let me off the hook, I need to face reality.

Things start to thaw between them, then a waiter tells her she has

a call from her stepfather.
As Josie goes to take the call, Ian seats a mystery woman who

invites him to join her for a drink. She makes some cryptic

remarks about the pressures and risks of running a restaurant, and

Ian pegs her as a shakedown artist. Finish your wine and don't

come back, he tells her, going back to work. The waiter tells him

Josie found out her mother was missing, and tore out dressed very

strangely. Ian calls John, and finds out that Kate has turned

into Sharly again. He agrees to help search for her, naively

telling John that he doesn't think Josie would go out looking on

her own (where does he think she went???). He tells the

headwaiter to cover for him and rushes out.
Meanwhile, the mystery woman has disappeared from her table.

We see her in the ladies' room, sneering about giving Mr. Rain a

real restaurant problem. She lights a cigarette, takes a few

puffs, and starts a fire in the wastebasket.
By this time, Josie, dressed as a hooker, has gone to the

waterfront to look for Sharly. She approaches another hooker, who

says try the Waterfront Bar, but be careful, it's a real

hell-hole. She goes there and comes on to a sleaze at the bar (he

might be the manager?), who says he hasn't seen that twisted

Sharly. Josie starts to leave, but Sleazo stops her by saying he

knows where Sharly is and he'll take her there if she's "nice" to

him. While Josie goes to get her bag, the hooker from the

waterfront accuses Sleazo of lying about seeing Sharly. Stay out

of it, Lacey, the guy tells her, or you'll be sorry.

Luxury Cabin in the Wilderness - On the couch, Jake and

Paulina continue their kiss; Jake breaks it off, trying to

apologize and saying he only wanted to keep her safe. Paulina

pulls him back into a lip-lock, as Barry cocks his pistol outside

the window. Paulina hears a noise, and Jake checks the door,

reassuring her that Barry couldn't have caught up with them yet.

Suddenly the lights go out. Jake checks on the blackout and

returns with candles. They decide it's nothing to worry about,

and Paulina exits to check the pantry for more candles. Jake is

more concerned than he let on, and checks the window again.

Paulina doesn't return, and doesn't answer when he calls. Barry

appears from the back room holding Paulina hostage with a gun to

her head. He shoves her at Jake and threatens them. They try to

stall for time, as Ryan appears in the window behind Barry,

signals them not to give him away, and sneaks around to the side.

Barry turns to check behind him, and Jake leaps at his gun arm. A

shot goes off in the struggle. Barry knocks Jake to the floor and

is about to fire, when Ryan leaps in and knocks the gun out of his

hand. They struggle, and finally Barry is knocked out. Ryan

picks up the gun, checks to see that Jake and Paulina are o.k.

They start to discuss their survival and how Iris was involved.

Paulina looks up and sees that Barry is conscious and coming at

Ryan with the fireplace shovel. She screams a warning, and Ryan

pivots and fires, throwing Barry back against the fireplace, out

cold.

Later, Ryan is about to board the chopper for the hospital

with Jeff (the Paramedic Pilot) and the wounded Barry - they don't

know if he'll make it. Ryan tells Jake and Paulina that Rachel is

o.k., and Carl has amnesia. Paulina asks if Iris is dead - Jake

explains that Barry claimed she'd be next to die after Carl, but

it would be a suicide. Ryan promises to get to the bottom of it,

and exits. Jake and Paulina are delighted to stay there together

until another chopper can be sent in the morning.
Later Paulina meanders outside in the night air and Jake

follows. They talk about how they beat the odds, and whatever

happens, nothing will ever be the same again. They embrace and

kiss in the moonlight. FREEZE FRAME.

Cory mansion - Carl is lying on the bed in his room, and Iris

sits beside him. He holds her hand and kisses it, rhapsodizing

about her kind, loving, compassionate soul. Iris can't take it

anymore and confesses that she was the one who shot him. She

bursts into tears as she recounts the trauma of seeing him fall,

bleeding and lifeless. I did it, she says, it was all my fault.

Rachel hears her voice from the hallway and bursts in just as Iris

was about to explain to Carl what happened. This is a private

conversation, Carl tells Rachel, so get out. Rachel says no, this

is my house, and she demands that Iris once and for all spill what

she knows about Paulina's disappearance. Carl leaps to Iris's

defense; Rachel explodes at Iris's stonewalling, and says either

cooperate or get out. He and Rachel trade snarky remarks; the

remorseful Iris tries to tell Carl that Rachel is just looking out

for her, but Rachel is unimpressed. Carl wonders how Iris can put

up with her. If Iris goes, I go, Carl tells her. You can't blame

me for Carl's checkmate, says Iris - and a lightbulb goes off over

Rachel's head. Fine, see you both downstairs, says Rachel,

leaving abruptly with a purpose.
Alone again, Carl listens intently as Iris explains she

thought she was firing blanks, but Barry replaced the bullets, and

probably also kidnapped Jake and Paulina - he's setting me up, but

it's my fault if anything happens to them. Carl tells her he has

a solution. She's afraid his solution is to turn her in, but he

says no, he's figured out why she shot him - she wanted to stop

the wedding because she was subconsciously in love with him, and

couldn't bear to see him married to her step-mother!
CARL: "A great love, a great unrequited passion, can

sometimes take us right to the edge; and you, Iris, are as

passionate a woman as I have ever met!"
IRIS: "But you don't remember any other women!"
Carl won't let her devalue herself, he reminds her it was all

Barry's doing, and everything will be all right - "I have a very

good feeling about Jack and Paulette." He promises to make all

her dreams come true, he intends to love her as she obviously must

have loved him, and her confession will be their special lovers'

secret. He wraps an arm tenderly around her shoulders and leads

the resigned Iris down to meet with Rachel: "Now come on, the

harridan's waiting."
On the terrace, Rachel has opera music playing and the chess

board set up to try to jog Carl's memory. He says he doesn't know

how to play, but Rachel tells him he's a master at it. He's drawn

in, to Iris's chagrin. He makes a few tentative moves, and finds

he seems to know what he's doing.
Ryan calls Rachel to tell her that Jake and Paulina have been

rescued. When she says Barry's name, Iris freezes, then retreats

nervously into the house unnoticed.

Winthrop house - Brett and Morgan arrive at Frankie's

request. She tells them Cass is coming home tomorrow; the doctor

says business as usual, which in their house means chaos, so she's

scheduled Charlie's christening for tomorrow. Morgan goes to call

the hospital and trade shifts for tomorrow. Frankie senses Brett

is upset, is there anything I can do? Yes, she says, ask Morgan

to move back in with you. Frankie confesses that Morgan told her

about her proposed surgery. Brett feels humiliated, but finally

admits her real worry is that her mammogram showed a lump in her

breast - she's having a hard enough time coping, and she can't

have Morgan hovering over her, please get him to move back here

and away from me. She's supposed to have a second mammogram, and

Frankie tries to reassure that it's probably just a cyst, better

to have all the facts. She thinks Morgan could be a great help to

her going through this; but Brett says she has all of them for

support, but she also needs her own space and doesn't want to have

to worry about anyone else, please help keep Morgan away, I need

to do this alone.
Morgan bounds back in after his call, and sees that he's

interrupted something heavy. Brett tries to cover by saying

Frankie has a weird idea, and Frankie takes the cue and asks him

to move back in - it's different now from when he left, Cass knows

he was wrong about them, and she could use his help with Cass's

return and the christening. Frankie exits to check her carrot

cake, and Morgan tells Brett he sees through the set-up, why does

she want to get rid of him so badly she'd use Frankie like that -

why won't she trust him? She says she does trust him more than

anyone else, but he says prove it: tell me what's going on, why

do you want me to leave? She rags on him for giving her the third

degree. Frankie comes back in, and Morgan tersely says fine, I'll

move back. He goes up to see Charlie, and Frankie says now it's

time for Brett to keep her side of the bargain, she has to call

for her second mammogram. Brett tries to stall, but Frankie

insists. Brett gives in and dials the phone - like most soap

characters, she doesn't have to look up the number - but in this

case, there's no need, because she keeps her finger on the

switchhook and fakes the call anyway.

That's the news, that's my views,
