M*A*S*H Meets McGyver in Florida Storm

At Carl's beach house in the Florida Keys - Rachel's baby girl is
safely delivered, and Doc Shane anxiously urges the nurse to return and
help deliver the other baby. They deliver the boy with some difficulty,
handing him to Carl and Rachel; but Doc Shane is obviously worried. The
baby is fine, he assures them, but Rachel is still bleeding, the tumor has
to come out now or she'll bleed to death. He'd prefer to wait for the
Medivac chopper, but Carl calls and learns they've been delayed by the
storm. Rachel tells Doc Shane to go ahead and remove the tumor, and Carl
concurs. Doc Shane takes a deep breath, then calls for a scalpel. Rachel
is still weak and woozy, but her pulse is strong, as Doc Shane works to
remove the tumor. He's worried that she's lost too much blood. She
shrieks in pain, as the anesthetic is wearing off. Meanwhile, the nurse
notes that the baby girl is having trouble breathing; but Doc Shane sends
her to gather supplies and equipment for a blood transfusion. Carl turns
out to be a universal donor, and Doc Shane proposes a direct transfusion
to Rachel - start a tourniquet. Carl pulls the elastic off his ponytail
and wraps it around his arm. The lights go out from the storm. The nurse
returns, they set up the transfusion rig, and Doc Shane talks Carl through
the procedure by candlelight. The lights return, the transfusion works,
and the surgery continues. Doc Shane instructs Carl to help Rachel
control her pain by visualization, which also appears to work. Finally
the tumor is out. As Doc Shane is closing up, Rachel passes out. He
pumps her with fluids to counteract the blood loss, and Carl brings one of
the babies to her side to draw her focus. She opens her eyes; Doc Shane
tells them the babies' placement had kept the tumor from pressing on her
aorta, which would have killed her - they saved her life. She smiles,
then passes out again. Doc Shane and the nurse begin to administer CPR,
as the sound of chopper blades is heard overhead.

Run for the (Silver) Roses

Gary and Josie have turned in early; he dozes off, while she scopes
out dresses in a brides' magazine. The phone rings, Josie answers, but
the caller doesn't speak. She hangs up, annoyed. Now awake, Gary
initiates foreplay, glancing at the clock on the bedside table.
Much later, wrapped in Josie's arms, Gary carefully extricates himself
and slips out of bed. He quietly assembles his clothes over the footboard
and ducks into the bathroom briefly, When he returns, his clothes are
gone. Josie flicks on the light, demanding an explanation before she'll
return his clothes. He lies at first, then admits he's working on a case.
I knew it! she chirps happily, then guesses Cindy gave him a tip on the
Silver Rose thief. He reminds her she refused his offer to team up; she
says she knows he sneaked a look at her police file [why did she have it
at home in the first place??], and decides they should work together after
all. He agrees readily.

Meanwhile, Cindy arrives at Lucky Lady, and Dash appears soon after
to meet her. She apologizes for dragging him into a possibly dangerous
situation, meeting with the jewel thief based on an anonymous phone tip
just to get the emerald necklace back for Grant. She says forget it, but
Dash insists on keeping the appointment for her. Grant arrives, Cindy
introduces them, and shoots a desperate glance at Dash, who keeps quiet
about their conversation. Dash tells Grant he's currently working at Cory
Publishing. Grant excuses himself to call the Governor. When he's gone,
Cindy thanks Dash for keeping their secret, then explains she was to meet
Silver Rose at midnight in the alley behind Carlinos [conveniently
located near the police station, dontcha know...]. Relax, says Dash,
I'll meet him and get the necklace back. Cindy retrieves his jacket from
the bar, helps him put it on, and he exits. Grant returns, musing how
British nobility could prove useful to them. Cindy smiles [see below].

Josie and Gary arrive at the alley at midnight, kissing as cover.
Dash spots them around the corner and starts to leave, but he kicks a
garbage can and Gary pulls his gun, ordering Dash to freeze. Josie
identifies herself as a cop, and Dash relaxes - claims he was supposed to
meet someone, but he doesn't know who. He starts to leave, but they note
his fancy watch, and inform him they had a tip that the Silver Rose thief
would be here. You think it's ME?? Dash laughs nervously, but Josie
orders him to empty his pockets. Sure enough, they find - a diamond
bracelet, an emerald necklace, and a silver rose [yeah, I always carry all
my loot with me when I do a heist, too...]. Josie frisks him and places
him under arrest. Dash claims it's all a mistake - Cindy Harrison can
explain [fat chance], I want a solicitor, call Grant Harrison, he'll
represent me [fatter chance]. As they march him off to jail, Gary whispers
to Josie that he's had it up to here with Grant, and wonders if this bust
wasn't just a little [try a LOT] too easy??

Getting to Know You

Chris arrives at Lucky Lady with flowers for Toni, but she's late for
their date. Etta Mae points to the table where Cass and Tyrone are
talking. She tells Chris that Tyrone may take the Chicago offer after
all. Toni arrives in a very cute summer gown. She tells Chris she was
tied up by an accident - Nick, again. Sharing a table, Toni recounts the
Nick/Sofia incident, expressing disgust at Nick and his ilk, and how they
treat women. Chris suspects she's speaking from personal experience. She
admits she was involved twice in the past with thoughtless, self-centered
creeps she trusted, who turned around and hurt her. Chris listens
sympathetically, and encourages her to talk about her past - he knows Toni
the cop, now he wants to know Toni the woman. She says her last boyfriend
split when she started at the police academy, and figures her job is a
turn-off. Chris assures her he only regrets her long hours, but not her
job - he's not going anywhere. They kiss across the table. He suggests
they move their date out of her mother's restaurant - how about my place?
She reluctantly says she can't stop fretting over Nick and Sofia, and
needs to follow up. She assures him she's not trying to avoid him, and
promises to make it up to him tomorrow night. She exits [see below].

Lawyers and Politicians

Still at Lucky Lady, Cindy and Grant sit after dinner, puffing on big
cigars [pretty funny-looking!]. Cindy hints that Carl will get the credit
when the thief is caught, with his $25,000 reward. She urges Grant to
double the amount for good publicity. Grant is pleased at the idea, she
could be a good partner after all - politically. And economically? she
mutters (still miffed at the paltry spending money he allows her). He
implies she could soon be living on an estate, in a fully-staffed mansion
with acres of landscaped gardens - rent-free! Seems he's planning on
running for mayor... Dream on, she scoffs. No, dream BIG, he smirks,
producing a campaign button. Cindy warms to the idea, she's so proud of
Grant, and promises to help. Then stop drinking beer in public, he digs,
as she's taking a sip.

At another table, Tyrone tells Cass that the Chicago firm sweetened
their offer with season tickets to the Bulls. Cass hints that he can beat
their deal - he promises Ty can wear jeans to work, plus the bonus of lots
of pro bono work, long hours, lousy benefits, and rare if any vacations. He
just laughs when Ty mentions clerks and paralegals. E-M arrives amid the
laughter. My offer was a joke, Cass explains, wishing Ty all the best in
Chicago. Not so fast, Ty interrupts, I didn't pass the bar just for Bulls
tickets - Cass really seems to care about justice, and all I ever wanted
was to make a good living - and to wear jeans to work! Cass happily
welcomes him to Winthrop & Associates [anyone remember Winthrop & Edwards?
or Winthrop & Winthrop?]. I'm home, Ty tells E-M, as she hugs him
excitedly. Cass is delighted that Ty is ready to start work tomorrow. He
again thanks E-M for putting them together, and proposes a celebration [Go
home, Cass, don't you have a daughter? or is she with Morgan in the Bay
City Triangle? Besides, thought you couldn't drink while you're on
lithium...]. E-M goes for champagne; Cass observes, 9 months ago he
couldn't imagine feeling this good about anything.
E-M grabs Chris to come join them with Toni; Chris says Toni had to
leave. E-M informs him they're celebrating. Cass presents Ty as the
"Associates" part of Winthrop & Associates.  Ty looks around for Toni;
police business, says Chris. We'll celebrate again tomorrow, E-M
promises. Ty mentions finding a place to live now. Stay with Toni and
me as long as you like, urges E-M, as Chris scowls.
Cass tells Ty he's rented out the floor above Carlinos to use as
office space [at least, until the inevitable restaurant fire, you heard
it here first] - unless you'd prefer a table downstairs? E-M and Chris
return with a tray of glasses filled with champagne. Grant appears
(followed by Cindy) and takes a glass. They tell him it's a private
party, but Grant introduces himself to Ty, and Cindy announces he's Bay
City's next mayor. When Grant assures Cass he's serious, Cass and E-M
just laugh, but Grant hands Chris a campaign flyer for the Herald. Chris
incredulously reads aloud: "Grant Harrison Has Nothing to Hide." At this,
he, Cass and E-M are ROTFL. You won't be laughing when he's sworn in,
Cindy predicts [she's probably right - SEE BELOW].

Nick Knack

At the hospital, Tom'as tries to keep Nick quiet while he cleans his
head wound, waiting for the doctor to stitch him up. Emily enters, says
Sofia is still upset. Nick, still drunk, begs Emily to plead his case to
Sofia, but she angrily orders him to stay away from all of them from now
on. Nick is sarcastic and belligerent; Emily calls him a liar and a
disgusting drunk and exits. Tom'as warns him to get his act together or
he'll lose every friend he ever had - there's people here who really need
help. He exits, sees Michael in the hallway, and reports that Nick is
still drunk and disorderly but not seriously hurt. Mike's just been to
see Sofia, and he advises Tom'as to keep an eye on her. He then goes in
to see Nick, who blames him for the mess he's in. Mike says he just tried
to smooth things over with Sofia, but she was too angry to listen. Nick
moans how he's lost her trust again. Mike thinks it's a good sign that he
feels responsible. Nah, haven't you heard, I only care about myself, Nick
sneers. Mike claims he wants to help, I love you. You don't even know
me, Nick snaps. Not like this, Mike agrees - I've handled everything all
wrong with you, maybe I can finally do something right - I'm kicking you
out of the house. Nick figures it's because Mike's father was an
alcoholic. And his father before him, Mike admits, and you're heading
that way, too; it's something you have to fight on your own, no one can
help you. I want my son back, Mike pleads. I just want my stuff, Nick
retorts. He tells Mike everyone thinks he's no good, he might as well act
that way. Mike offers to let him sleep it off, we'll talk in the morning,
you can stay at the farmhouse until you find another place. I'll be out
by tonight, Nick snarls. Mike, choked with emotion, kisses him and exits
sadly. Nick rips the medallion off his neck - love, what a joke, he
sniffs.
Out in the corridor, Emily tells Tom'as they should change the locks
at the apartment, in case Nick returns to cause more trouble. Tom'as
agrees, and advises her that, if Nick comes by, call the cops and ask for
Toni.
Later, Toni stops by the hospital to check on Nick. Tom'as and Emily
lead her to his cubicle, but he's gone. Toni's had it for tonight and
says she'll follow up in the morning. She exits. Tom'as and Emily wonder
where Nick went - then dart to the phone to check on Sofia.
Toni leaves the hospital and walks the darkened streets toward her
car. She hears a noise but doesn't see anyone. A man's shadow looms
nearby. He approaches, we see his feet, his hand (holding a medallion on
a chain). He opens a barrier gate, which squeaks. Police, show yourself,
Toni orders. Suddenly a man's hand is clapped over her mouth from behind.
FREEZE FRAME.

[RE: Grant for Mayor - I think we can all agree, the Bay Citizens aren't
taking this as a serious threat, which is just when Grant pounces -
remember he shot himself and framed Vicky; he shot Ryan in the back, went
to prison for murder, but got himself sprung; he tried to blow up Vicky
and Bobby, yet he's still walking around; and he even planned to kill
Cindy with a tarantula! I propose we stop this NOW - how about a write-in
campaign, FRANKIE FOR MAYOR! Contact TPTB at:]
