Michael tells Nick in the hospital that he is being released. Michael is
surprised when Nick is less than enthusiastic. Michael leaves and when
Tomas comes in, he and Nick snipe at each other as usual. Then, a nurse
enters and accuses Tomas of stealing a watch from a patient's room. She is
quite racist in her attack, and Tomas calls her on it. Nick steps in and
takes responsibility for the theft. Another nurse enters and says that the
watch has been found. The nurse says Tomas is off the hook, this time.

Nick calls her a racist and threatens her job by saying that John is his
uncle. Tomas thanks Nick for helping him, realizing that Nick could have
ended up in jail. Later, Michael and Nick go to meet his new probation
officer, Gary's friend Buck. Buck is polite until Michael leaves, and then
starts shoving Nick around.

Felicia and Josie talk about Gary at the bookstore. Gary had left a
message for her, and they fear it means he wanted to have a drink. Josie
tells Felicia that she knows Gary is an alcoholic and that Gary knows she
was a prostitute. She worries how they will deal with each other.

Meanwhile, Gary has been called into Ryan's office to explain his unexcused
absence from class. After first trying to fib, he admits that he was
drunk, that he has a problem, and that he is in AA. Ryan, thinking of the
help Spencer got from AA, tells Gary he has another chance, but warns him
not to screw it up. Gary turns down an offer to go drinking with Buck and
ends up at the bookstore. Gary and Josie talk and Gary says he no longer
has any secrets: they're unhealthy.

Ryan tells Carl he's working on getting the phone records from Justine's
former hotel room. Justine tries very hard to seduce Carl, who can't help
baiting her -- "Don't you remember how you like to tease me and make me
wait?" He talks about having "caught" her, etc. Then he tells her not to
worry that the last time they made love was sub-standard. Everyone has a
few bad nights. Carl tells Justine that watching her paint turns him on
and asks her to meet him in her studio. Candy enters and Carl leaves.

Candy tells Justine that she did as she wished -- told no one about
Christophe, and after all, that painting was worth a lot of money ...

Justine does not take kindly to blackmail and soon enough, Candy is denying
that that is what she implied. Carl sees Justine use a cellular phone and
asks her when she got it, as Rachel had often expressed her disdain for
them. Justine explains it away. Carl leaves to tell Ryan about the phone.
Justine panics about having to paint. Her solution? Simple -- she'll
just burn her hands. She looks like she's enjoying it too.
