Hey, gang, yes I'm finally back from vacation; I had an AW
marathon and watched the eight episodes I'd taped. The 6/3
episode was preempted for the French Open tennis match, so I don't
feel so bad for missing the update (unless it was broadcast in
other parts of the country? If so, please fill me in!). ALSO, we
lost the first 20 minutes of the 6/6 episode in our area due to
D-Day ceremonies, so I'm most anxious to hear what happened - did
Frankie and Morgan have an affair? Is that why Brett was so mad
at him?

Moving right along...here is the update for Another World for
Friday, June 10, 1994:

There was a subplot with Brett and Morgan at a Cubs game:
Brett appears, buys some food from a vendor, and makes her way to
her seat in the stands. She is surprised and not pleased to see
Morgan in the next seat [yes, she, too, wonders how he just
HAPPENED to get an adjoining seat - what are the odds?]. He's mad
that apparently she broke up with him without telling him. [News
to me - did I miss something while I was gone?] Morgan the
Baseball Neophyte cheers and boos at all the wrong things while
Brett rags on him. They trade a few sports metaphors about mixed
signals, etc. He brings up their recent tryst in centerfield, and
she tells him to leave. If my proximity bothers you, he retorts,
YOU move. More sports metaphors, Morgan says in baseball you get
nine innings (chances) to win but apparently not in a
relationship. She responds that he crossed the line by trying to
tell her what to do with her body [aha! a clue! the breast
augmentation stuff!]. She says there are 4 classes of fights,
they're about to enter a Class 4 because of how close and
vulnerable they've become, a Class 4 can really hurt, and she
intends to spare herself the heartache by ending things now. No,
he tells her, I won't play by your rules.
Later, Morgan is still a beat or two behind on every cheer.
Brett claims he doesn't understand about family fights, the way
her parents used to yell and scream. My parents fought too, he
answers, they were just silent and civilized - sometimes they
didn't speak for months: "The most passionate thing I ever heard
my father say to my mother during a fight was 'Claudia, please
tell the cook that the brussels sprouts are overdone again.'" He
thinks she's crazy to break up over nothing. Suddenly the Cubs
get a runner on third, and Brett screams "This is great, we
actually got a shot!" That's what I've been trying to tell you,
Morgan says, we can't give up, we're great together, I don't want
to be a free agent anymore and neither do you. They look like
they're about to kiss, but their cap brims keep their faces about
4" apart.

Most of the program, however, was concerned with Carl and
Rachel's wedding, with subplots to Jake & Paulina, Iris & Barry, Matt & Donna, Felicia &
Maggie & Loretta:

Jake uses the extra key Paulina gave him, and enters her
empty hotel suite to change for the wedding. Only it wasn't
empty, Paulina walks in wearing a robe, briefly upset. He says
lets get a move on, we have to stop Iris. Paulina still thinks

the threats could be from Carl, but Jake says he doubts Carl
would harm Rachel, he still believes in love. After some typical
bickering over whether Jake should leave while Paulina changes,
she exits to change in the bedroom while he changes in the outer
room. Talking through the door, Jake tells his "angel-food cake"
that he went to see Carl to warn him about Barry. She's furious
that he may have tipped their hand to Carl if he's the real
culprit. She reenters and (naturally) asks him to zip her dress.
At such close quarters, they're both a little distracted. He
intones how a man in love with a woman would do anything for you -
I mean her (he corrects himself, but she reads him just fine).
She draws him a sketch of the chapel, pointing out where the
guards and metal detectors are. Jake still thinks they're
vulnerable to an assassination attempt, and insists she change her
seat to the other side, out of the possible line of fire. O.K.,
she agrees, happy now? No, he answers, I gave up on that a long
time ago. There are definite romantic undercurrents; as they
leave for the chapel, she tells him to keep the key for the time
being.

Breaking the tradition of not seeing the bride before the
ceremony, Carl has come to personally bring Rachel to the chapel.
She's glad to see him, but suspicious of why he really came
himself. We promised to trust each other, she says, do you have a
problem trusting me with the truth? She won't drop the subject,
and gets him to admit he's worried about the threats. Me too, she
says, I don't want to lose you. They embrace. She suddenly
suggests that they just elope to City Hall. Carl is delighted at
the idea and her impulsiveness, but argues that after all they've
been through they deserve a real wedding. Till death do us part,
he says ironically. She agrees, and they kiss ardently.

Felicia, Maggie and Donna, just arrived from Bay City, are
early at the chapel. Donna is confronted by a security guard and
Matt, both equipped with hand-held metal detectors. We're
checking for weapons, no exceptions, Matt tells Donna, would you
rather be frisked by him or by me? Matt scans Donna for weapons
for about the eighth time - you could be carrying a grudge almost
anywhere. Not against Rachel, she answers; and if I didn't kill
Carl while I was married to him, I won't do it now.
Elsewhere, Iris meets Barry and gives him an invitation to
get him admitted. He assures her that her plan is perfect, the
wedding will never happen. She warns him that Carl gave Rachel a
gun, then hustles him on his way.
Maggie thinks the security precautions are creating a weird
atmosphere. Matt assures Felicia that Rachel's probably on her
way even as they speak, under armed guard. Iris enters, and Matt
gets her to do deal with the gathering press. When she exits,
Maggie comments that Iris has "more faces than Eve - and you never
know which one is real."
Donna reenters the lobby from the chapel, and tells Matt she
doesn't want to wait in there alone. Who says you'd be alone, he
answers meaningfully. He escorts her back into the empty chapel,
and they stroll up the aisle. He wonders if she's remembering all
her past weddings - a natural topic, he says. She replies,
there's nothing natural about today. That's because we're not
together, he answers, that should be us up at the altar. No, she

says, if we were still together, you'd be missing out on
everything. I had everything, he tells her, until you walked out.
She starts to leave, and he pulls her back into a passionate kiss,
and she responds. What did you do that for, she asks emotionally.
Just a reminder of what you gave up, he answers. He walks away,
leaving her to think it over by herself. When she returns to the
lobby, he tells her that if she's uncomfortable she can always bow
out - it's what she's good at. She repairs her makeup and says
she wants to be here for her friends. Which friend, he asks,
Carl, Mom, or me?
Loretta arrives, and talks with Felicia and Maggie about
Rachel's happy day. Felicia hopes she'll be as happy with Carl as
she was with her first love, whoever it was. Loretta claims all 5
of her marriages were like a first love, that's the magic of love.
Maggie asks if Felicia ever got over her first love. No, I
didn't, she answers with a melancholy smile. Iris storms in,
appalled to report that Carl and Rachel just pulled up - together!
The others laugh and joke about the shame of it all, Maggie asks
Loretta if she can put them up in NY until the scandal dies down
and they can go home to Bay City. Iris says joke away, but those
two are courting disaster. Ooh, says Felicia, I'd better go to
the bride's room to make sure no one plants a bomb. Iris doesn't
laugh.
Carl and Rachel arrive with Ito. Carl spots Barry off to the
side, and tells Ito to deal with him. Iris steps in, and claims
he's her personal security guard. Carl asks him for some I.D. -
this day isn't about you, he tells Iris, no one wants to hurt you.
Not even you? she asks him. Well, not today, he chuckles. He
tells Barry he can leave, he won't be needed. Iris nods her
assent, and he leaves. Then Carl starts to lead Rachel toward the
chapel, and as she passes through the metal detector, the alarm
goes crazy. Carl takes her purse and displays the gun to the
assembling crowd (including Jake & Paulina). I asked her to carry this,
he tells them; any objections? Jake thinks the gun is a good
idea, but Paulina doesn't like it. "Oh, come on," says Carl
impatiently, replacing it in Rachel's purse and handing it back to
her, "we'll dress it up with some roses and baby's breath, no one
will ever recognize it." He apologizes to Rachel, but she thought
it was funny. She heads for the bride's room, and invites Donna
to join them. Carl approaches Jake and Paulina, saying Jake
wasn't on the guest list, but if it's important to Paulina he's
welcome (if he can pass through the metal detector without setting
it off). He offers his hand, and Jake shakes it - not to worry,
he says, I'm clean. J & P enter the chapel. "Timing," Carl tells Ito
cryptically - "every minute of this day is planned." [Hmmmm...]
Meanwhile, Iris meets Barry in a nearby cafe'. She's
distraught at the upcoming wedding and Rachel's gun. Barry isn't
worried, he thinks it shows Carl is vulnerable. Don't get
emotional, he says, you'll blow your plan. He hands her a little
silver box - since I can't be there, you'll have to do this.
Don't worry, I'm extremely competent, she replies firmly. She
takes the box and leaves.
Felicia, Loretta, Maggie, Donna and Paulina gather in the
bride's room with Rachel. She's so happy with Carl; she senses
that Maggie is on cloud nine over Tom'as; and even Paulina came in

with Jake - life is full of surprises. Let's hope none of them
happen today, Donna chimes in. Everyone leaves but Felicia, at
Rachel's request. She wishes Rachel as good a marriage with Carl
as she had with Mac - and if you should find a hot guy on your
honeymoon, could you send him to me? Sure, special delivery,
Rachel promises - you miss Luke, but you'll fall in love again,
and add new joys to your wonderful memories. Matt and Iris enter.
Matt wishes her well before he joins Carl as best man (standing in
for Ryan) [another scene I apparently missed]; he asks Rachel to
throw the bouquet to Donna. As he leaves, we see Iris fiddling
with her purse, her back to Rachel. No lectures, Rachel warns
her. No, says Iris, just good luck - you'll need it. She leaves,
and Ito enters with a present from Carl - he says Carl figured
she'd bite his head off if he flouted tradition again, and besides
he's a little nervous, but Carl is a very sensitive and generous
man. Ito wishes her all the best, they exchange bows, and he
exits. Isn't he adorable, Rachel tells Felicia, that's the the
most personal thing he's ever said to me! She opens the box, and
pulls out a beautiful pair of earrings. They're perfect, she
says, but my nose is shiny, grab my compact from my purse. As
Felicia dumps out Rachel's purse, we notice that the gun is gone!
Meanwhile, in the lobby, Carl is pacing; his phone rings
[hope he intends to turn it off for the ceremony], and it's HHBL
himself (Ryan)! He's in Winnipeg, hasn't found Vicky yet but
thinks he's close. He doesn't feel like he can leave right now,
much as he wishes he could be there to stand up for Carl. Carl
appreciates the good wishes, especially since this was supposed to
have been Ryan and Vicky's wedding day. The music starts from the
chapel, so they ring off. Be careful, says Ryan.
In the chapel, Maggie notices that Carl's side is empty, and
she and Donna ("Ex-wives should always support their ex-husbands")
volunteer to dress those seats. Jake and Paulina sit in the front
on Rachel's side, with Felicia behind them - Iris insists on
sitting in the back, making rather too big a deal of it. Ito
enters in front and sits on Rachel's side (?), followed by Carl
and Matt who take their places at the altar with the minister.
Loretta comes up the aisle as matron of honor, followed by Radiant
Rachel. You take my breath away, Carl tells her as she joins him.
The minister starts the ceremony, while Iris looks distraught.
The ceremony continues, and Rachel and Carl recite their own vows.
Rachel goes first, then Carl. As he finishes with "I promise you
faithfully that I will never betray your trust, not as long as we
both may live," a shot rings out. Carl reels and starts to
crumble, Rachel catches him, and he looks back over his shoulder
in the direction the shot came from. FREEZE FRAME.

That's all for 6/10/94; the latest Cast List will be posted
separately. Thanks.
