Here is the update for Another World for Friday, May 9, 1997:

* Grant drags Cindy down the aisle (kicking and screaming)
* Rachel: "I made up my mind - I'm keepin' my baby..."
* Vicky eludes Donna & Jake to rendezvous w/ Bobby

WEDDING BELL BLUES

Planning to prevent her from testifying against him in his upcoming
trial, Grant drags Cindy to a REALLY gaudy, tacky wedding chapel (all
that's missing is an Elvis impersonator). She's repulsed by it, why can't
he get one of the judges in his pocket to marry them at City Hall? She
further informs him, no wedding until she has his new will signed, sealed
& delivered, leaving her his entire fortune in the event of his untimely
demise. He promises the courier is on his way with the revised will, why
not save time and get married while we wait? She scoffs, warning that if
he tries to back out of their deal, she can always take the D.A.'s deal -
total immunity in exchange for squealing on Grant. She wistfully
describes the fantasy wedding she'd always imagined w/ Gabe, and Grant
wistfully recognizes the similarities to his wedding w/ Vicky. He admits
he'd really loved her, but she broke his heart, just as Gabe had broken
Cindy's heart by marrying Sara.  The courier arrives with the new will;
Cindy reads it carefully as Grant assures her that, except for Kirk's
trust fund, she gets everything if he should get hit by a comet, which
isn't likely. It may not need a comet, she smiles to herself, as she
secretly examines the syringe in her purse.
The Justice of the Peace runs down his list of optional wedding
extras for the ceremony; Grant, of course, opts for the cheapest of
everything. Cindy, already disgusted, insists on at least having some of
their lovely fake flowers (one of each, she snaps); she strongly nixes
their offer of the honeymoon suite - We'll take it, says Grant. He tries
to pay w/ a credit card, and Cindy rolls her eyes at such a "romantic"
gesture ("plastic flowers, plastic money..."); the J.P. insists on cash
only. As the "happy couple" argue over the parts of the vows they refuse
to adhere to (like obey, honor, cherish), the J.P. senses all is not well
in Paradise. Grant grits his teeth and assures him everything is peachy,
but then Cindy refuses to make do with her own ring - she demands a
diamond, or no deal. Fine, but NOT RIGHT NOW - later you can have
whatever you want, Grant argues with exasperation. So Cindy makes him
write out an I.O.U. - "I owe Cindy Brooke Harrison one ten-carat, square
cut, grade AAA diamond ring." SIGN IT, she growls, as he seems to need
reminding. She tucks it in her bra strap - "Hit it, Reverend," she
orders. The J.P. reluctantly starts the ceremony. As they repeat the
vows, Cindy thinks about what a sham this marriage is, how she deserves
the money after all she's been through, and how she'll soon be a wealthy
widow; Grant likewise plots Cindy's demise for right after the trial when
he no longer needs her. Is there anyone here who can show just cause why
this couple may not be legally joined...? says the minister. After an
awkward silence, Cindy hurls the plastic bouquet at Grant and retreats in
tears. I can't do this, she tells Grant, to his dismay.

DISAPPEARING ACT

Vicky packs her purse, flashing back to Bobby arranging for them to
meet tonight at the old train station. Donna calls, concerned about Grant
being out on bail, and urges her to drop by the Harbor Club for dinner so
they can catch up. Vicky says sorry, she has plans later with "a friend."

Jake arrives at the Cory mansion to pick up Amanda for a business
dinner at the Harbor Club. She senses he has something up his sleeve. He
admits he has an unrelated favor to ask, not telling her he needs to make
a small detour first - to Vicky's house. They exit.
They soon arrive at Vicky's. Jake is just coaching Amanda on her
lines, when Vicky opens the door and finds them on her porch. She says
Donna had invited her for dinner at the Harbor Club, but she's had second
thoughts, she's decided to stay home tonight. Jake urges her to join him
and Amanda at the Harbor Club (Amanda isn't too pleased), then he makes
another attempt to warn her away from Bobby/Shane, the convicted killer.
Vicky insists Bobby's left the country, but Amanda claims she just saw him
today in town. Vicky scoffs, and Amanda impatiently tries to drag Jake
away. He tries one last time to get Vicky to come with them, and she
finally agrees, to his surprise. They exit.
When they show up at the Harbor Club, Donna quickly has Jake and
Amanda ushered to a table. She's delighted Vicky decided to accept her
invitation, and has the bartender pour two glasses of Chardonnay. Dash
St. John magically appears; Donna reintroduces them, then excuses herself
to "check the kitchen." Vicky apologizes to Dash for Donna's obvious
matchmaking. Dash says he doesn't mind, but Vicky predicts they have
nothing in common. He challenges her to test him, comparing likes and
dislikes. They find they both like jazz piano, prefer sailing over
speedboats, dogs over cats - and chocolate bars over chocolate truffles.
When he produces a candy bar from his inside pocket, she guesses Donna
probably coached him. True, he admits with a sheepish smile, but he
assures her Donna wasn't totally to blame. Vicky's suspicious of his
"jazz piano" claim, so he sits at the piano and plays a few licks as proof
that he was on the level.
Meanwhile, Amanda carps at Jake for ignoring her to stare at Vicky
and the new suitor. He tells her to order something while he corners
Donna for info; Amanda orders the most expensive champagne and a pound of
Beluga caviar. Jake quizzes Donna about Dash. She recites his pedigree,
but guesses there's something else going on. Jake confides that he thinks
Vicky's still seeing Bobby, who hasn't really left the country, he's an
escaped felon who was convicted of killing a woman. He assures the
appalled Donna that he's contacted the cop from New Orleans who's been on
Bobby's trail, and who should be here any time. Jake vows to do whatever
it takes to protect Vicky from Bobby.
As Jake glares, Vicky is impressed by Dash's piano talent. She
apologizes for giving him a hard time, he seems like a nice guy, then she
asks if he'd mind helping her duck out. He suggests they tell Donna
they're going for a romantic stroll around the bay, she can repay him by
going sailing with him soon. Donna is thrilled when they tell her they're
leaving, then exit together smiling.
Donna tells Jake and Amanda not to wait for Vicky - don't worry,
she's in good hands with Dash. Amanda urges Jake to get down to business,
but throws up her hands when he reveals their next big story is an expose'
on Bobby Reno. She doesn't want to hear Vicky's name one more time
tonight - ask something about me for a change. Uh, er, how's Alli? he
manages. Fine, says Amanda, but she wants to spend the summer with Sam.
Who'll take care of Buster? Jake worries. Amanda says Jake can probably
have the turtle-sitting job if he's nice. When Jake suggests Buster stay
with Vicky and the boys, Amanda's had enough. She suggests he use his
fortune to have Vicky cloned, and storms out [see below].
Later, Donna sits with Jake and assures him Vicky is safe with Dash.
Then Dash returns - alone. He tells them Vicky said she had plans, he
took her to her car, doesn't know where she went. Jake bolts out to look
for her.

BABY LOVE

In the Cory chapel, Rachel informs Carl she's decided not to end her
pregnancy, even though it may put her own life at risk. Carl begs her to
reconsider, he can't risk losing her to the tumor. She insists she's not
afraid, and she's convinced everything will work out if they have faith
and trust in their love. Reluctantly, he finally agrees to support her
decision. Rachel makes him promise that, if anything should happen to
her, he won't resent the baby; then she warns him they'll probably have
all their family and friends against the decision. He pledges complete
support, and she says she intends to focus on life instead of death from
now on. He wishes he could marry her all over again. Why not, she asks.
He proposes again, and she accepts. Carl lights a candle and places it on
the altar. Sitting together in the front pew, they express how much love
and joy each has brought to the other. Then they renew their pledges of
love and devotion, and seal it with a kiss.
Later, when Amanda arrives home, Carl and Rachel tell her they've
decided not to terminate the pregnancy. Amanda blames Carl's influence
for Rachel's decision to put her own life at risk just to give him a son -
how can you do this? she wails. Carl observes that Rachel needs Amanda's
support in these difficult conditions, not her condemnation. Rachel urges
her to put her fear aside and give her support, but I'll understand if you
can't. Carl reminds Rachel that she needs her rest; after she and Amanda
share a tearful embrace, Carl and Rachel head up to their room. Amanda
wipes away her tears, then strides over to the phone and makes a
long-distance call - to Matthew. She gets his machine, and leaves a
message for him to get home ASAP, their mother's life is at stake.

RENDEZVOUS

Bobby/Shane makes another visit to the woman in the clinic (Lila).
Sister Patty tells him Lila's doing better after her suicide attempt. He
sits at her bedside and talks gently about old times, bringing her lilacs
[hmm - just like Cass & Frankie...]. She squeezes his hand, says she'll
get stronger - "for you, Shane."
Later, while Lila is out having tests, Bobby/Shane tells Patty maybe
he should stay. She reminds him he's already risked capture by visiting
so often. He admits he wishes he could stop running and have a real life.
She says he deserves it, it may be time to put the past behind him -
Lila's about to be released, I'll watch out for her. Bobby/Shane tells
her he's considering heading for Mexico; Patty hopes he has a second
chance at happiness soon. An arm with a bandaged wrist is seen at the
doorway, apparently Lila's been listening.

At the appointed time, Bobby shows up at the old train station, which
by now has been condemned. He enters carefully and looks around, but no
Vicky. She finally arrives, and rushes into Bobby's arms (or was that
Shane?). He tells her he can sense Morris is closing in on him. Vicky
wants to hire a lawyer and a P.I. so they can find more evidence, get him
a new trial, and end the running. It won't work, he tells her, but he's
still vague about why - just drop it. Vicky wonders who he's protecting,
and vows she can't and won't give him up. Do you love me? he gasps with
amazement. She admits how much she loves him, and they kiss and embrace
joyfully. He begs her to run away with him, someplace where they don't
know him, they and the boys can start a new life together. She hesitates,
then tells him to give her an hour. As a substitute for an actual plot
development, the best the writers can come up with is that suddenly
there's a noise above them, and a beam starts to fall. Bobby pushes her
out of the way, but it catches him across the back. They lie motionless
in the debris. FADE TO BLACK.
