Here is the update for Another World for Friday, April 18, 1997:

* Grant and Cindy search for Carl's drug at Cory Mansion; Carl and Rachel
too busy to notice
* Joe tries to outwit crooked Commish in battle of wits (too bad he's low
on "ammo," eh?)
* Bobby cuts ties to his past, as Vicky continues to dig for clues

DRUG RAID ON THE LOVE NEST

CORY MANSION - Carl impulsively presents Rachel with a handful of
loose gems, all their birthstones (C, R, & baby). He'd intended to have
them mounted in a ring for her after the baby was born, but felt like
giving them to her tonight to place under her pillow, to inspire lovely
dreams. As they kiss and cuddle, Grant and Cindy lurk on the terrace
watching them. Cindy's nervous, but Grant is eager for the chance to get
back at Carl. Cindy's afraid they'll get caught, especially since he's
showing signs that the antidote is wearing off. He assures her he can
easily elude the Cory security system and find Carl's stash of the
hallucinogen, but he seethes that Carl looks too happy with Rachel.
Meanwhile, the oblivious Carl and Rachel talk about how close they
came to splitting for good, but their baby represents a chance to start
over. She's amazed and grateful to find this kind of connection and
closeness a second time (after Mac). As they smooch on the couch, Grant
tries to psych out where Carl would have stashed the drug. He gets an
idea, and drags Cindy off with him to head for the most likely place.
Cindy doesn't believe Carl would even keep the drug after it did its job,
and she's appalled when Grant leads her up the back stairs to the master
bedroom. Grant assures her Carl is arrogant enough to have kept it,
probably in plain sight - just start looking. They start to snoop through
the items on the side tables and dressers.
Downstairs, Carl and Rachel share a romantic dance; Rachel briefly
muses over missing Paulina's restaurant reopening [of course, so did Joe,
Paulina, & Sofia - I think Rachel can PROBABLY get away with it...], but
Carl has no interest in her other children tonight. As things heat up,
they turn off the light, she unties his ponytail, and they head upstairs
for romance.
Meanwhile, Cindy and Grant are finding nothing in the bedroom, and
they move on to the adjoining dressing room (walk-in closet?). Grant is
starting to have his headaches and flashes again, but then he stumbles
across an aspirin bottle which seems to contain no aspirin, but a liquid
instead. Cindy takes a whiff and confirms they've found the drug. They
start to exit, but hear Carl and Rachel arrive at the bedroom, so they
duck back into the dressing room. Carl, carrying his drink, raises it in
a toast to his radiant wife. Cindy has to stifle Grant to keep him quiet
as Carl and Rachel coo about the baby. Rachel feels a single kick, and
Carl eagerly kneels and puts his cheek against her belly, encouraging the
little tyke to give her daddy a swift kick in the face so he can feel it.
He vows not to move from this spot for the rest of the pregnancy, but then
he rises and takes Rachel out to enjoy the moonlight from the balcony.
Grant expresses astonishment at hearing of Rachel's pregnancy, but Cindy's
unimpressed, she just wants to get out of there while they have the
chance. On their way out, Grant takes the opportunity to gleefully slip a
few drops of the drug into Carl's glass on the dresser, and they exit.
Back on the terrace, Grant wonders how Carl could risk Rachel's life
by keeping the drug so close, in an aspirin bottle. Cindy points out that
Rachel would avoid aspirin while she's pregnant. Grant cackles that Carl
and Rachel are in for an "exciting evening!" [I'll bet Pinter LOVES doing
that evil, demonic, demented, maniacal Grant giggle - he's hysterical!]
Carl and Rachel return from the balcony, still clueless. Carl picks
up his glass, and asks her if she's sure it's safe for her if they make
love while she's pregnant. It's required, she teases, check your marriage
contract. I've always preferred to study anatomy rather than law, he
teases back, taking a sip from his glass. As she starts to undress, he
orders her to stop - after the build-up, he won't let her deny him the
pleasure of undressing her himself. He sets down the glass, she sits on
the bed, and they being to undress each other. The camera zooms in on the
glass on the dresser.

CAPTAIN CRIMINAL

YACHT - Paulina, holding Dante, paces the deck wondering what
happened to Neil and fretting over Joe's fate. She hears an engine out in
the bay. Expecting the Coast Guard, she turns on the lights as Joe had
directed and waves down the approaching cutter.

STATION HOUSE - With Jake at her side, Sofia loudly protests to
Commissioner Raines when Neil brings in Joe in handcuffs. Neil informs
her that Joe accepted a bribe. Not true, says Josie firmly - but Joe's
expression clues her not to spill what she knows. The Commish wants to
know how she can be so sure. She hesitates, then Sofia cries out that Joe
would never do such a thing. Josie and Gary back her up. Joe reminds the
Commish that he'd told him someone tried to bribe him, and that he'd
logged the money into the evidence room. The Commish sends Gary to go
look for it. Then Neil adds that Joe tried to kill him. That's enough for
the Commish to lock him up, and he orders a reluctant Josie to finish
booking her superior. Putting a form in the typewriter at Gary's desk
[why are they still using manual typewriters? Who do they think they are
- Andy Rooney?], Josie loudly asks the standard name/address questions.
Joe answers each question just as loudly. In between questions, she
whispers her real questions - is the money really in the evidence room?
That's where I put it, he whispers back. He warns her not to tell anyone
about their ongoing plot, not even Gary, and he strongly nixes her
suggestion to tell the Commish what's going on. She spills the news that
Grant escaped; she wants to go public to aid the search, but Joe says no,
Gabe's killer would know he was still alive and could get to him first;
with Grant dead for real, they might never flush out the real killer. No
one notices that they've talked for 5 minutes and she's only typed 3
words.
When Josie finishes booking Joe, she reluctantly locks him up in the
holding cell. Gary returns and tells Josie there was no money in the
evidence locker. Nevertheless, Josie tells him, Joe says we should keep
up our secret search for Grant. Gary balks, since Joe's recent big
spending spree lend credence to the bribery charges. The Commish comes
over and asks Gary for a report; Gary informs him the money wasn't there
as Joe claimed. Raines loudly lambastes Joe for betraying his squad,
after I went out on a limb to get you the captain's badge when no one else
thought you were ready! [Oh, really? Since when?] Over Sofia's protests,
Raines orders Neil to take the "garbage" to Interrogation. After they
exit, Paulina arrives with Dante. Jake greets her with a hug and assures
her Joe's safe; but seeing how upset Sofia looks, Paulina gets scared
again and demands info on her husband's whereabouts. Raines apologizes
for scaring her in their efforts to keep her safe. Then she chews out the
Commish [you go, girl!] for keeping her prisoner on the yacht; but he
claims he'd already sent the Coast Guard to retrieve her before she even
called [yeah, right]. He informs her that Joe's being interrogated, he's
in big trouble. (She still doesn't know that Neil's alive; for all she
knows Joe could be charged w/ murder.)  Jake takes her aside to talk;
Raines instructs her not to go far, she'll need to answer some questions
later. Sofia tells Paulina about the bribery charges, and they both agree
they don't believe Joe's crooked. Sofia takes Dante so Paulina can talk
with Jake.
Josie urges Gary to have faith in Joe. Gary, keeping an open mind,
guesses it has something to do with her "special assignment," but he isn't
too confident in the chances for success of this "plan" that just got Joe
locked up - a lot could go wrong, he warns.

CARLINOS - Paulina and Jake repair to the restaurant to talk.
Paulina expects Jake to gloat over Joe's downfall, not to mention
plastering it all over the front page of the Herald. Jake points out it
would look fishy if he didn't put the story on the front page, but he's
instructed his staff to keep the coverage as low-key as possible while he
tries to figure out how to clear Joe. Paulina is surprised and grateful
that Jake shares her belief that Joe is clean, but she admits she doesn't
know where the money came from. Jake asks about Neil (meaning, could he
be behind the set-up, but Paulina thinks he's asking whatever happened to
him, he's disappeared, etc.). Paulina nervously answers she doesn't know
what happened to him, and she's relieved when Jake tells her Neil's at the
station house, bruised and battered but very much alive. Gary enters and
reports that Joe's still being grilled, and the Commish wants Paulina back
for questioning.

STATION HOUSE - Toni, who's really off duty, has returned to use the
computer [see below]. Josie greets her and reports that Neil is still
grilling Joe, with the Commish watching from the Observation Room. Neil
returns with Joe and orders Josie to lock him back up. Josie allows Sofia
to hand him Dante so he can say goodbye. He assures the infant he'll be
home soon, then hands him back and instructs Sofia not to bring him here
again, I don't want him to see me in jail [too late]. Josie locks him in
the cell, and he urges Sofia to be strong for Paulina. She agrees, and
exits despondently with Dante.
Neil tells the Commish that Gary went to bring in Paulina. The
Commish instructs Neil to put her in Interrogation and grill her, I'll be
watching from the Observation Room, I'm sure she knows more than she's
saying. Joe loudly demands that they leave Paulina alone, she doesn't
know anything - if you hurt her... Raines continues to berate him for
turning crooked and betraying his wife's trust. He exits, and Joe and
Neil eye each other [so, are they in cahoots, or what?]. Gary enters with
Jake and Paulina; Paulina and Joe stare at each other grimly; Paulina can
barely hold back the tears.

BOBBY'S SECRET

HARBOR CLUB - Vicky drops by to see Donna, reporting that the kids
are safely on the plane to San Francisco to stay with Jamie. Donna
comments that she no longer has to be afraid now that Grant's dead. Sworn
to secrecy about the fake suicide, Vicky lets the comment pass - have you
seen Bobby? she asks. They're startled by a loud bang as Bobby, who's
been crouched behind the bar working, pops up with a surly expression and
slams a wrench on the counter. Donna is irritated at the noise and
suspicious of Bobby's suddenly showing up for work unannounced. He hints
that Vicky's been suspicious of him lately, too, which is a relief to
Donna. Vicky makes a few cryptic remarks about his reluctance to show any
I.D. - maybe his name isn't even Bobby? Bobby tensely warns her to be
careful what she says. As they stare each other down, Dash drops by, says
he's taking Donna up on her invitation to stop in anytime. Donna's happy
for the chance to finally introduce this suitable young man to Vicky.
Vicky says nice to meet you - I'm a little busy right now, could we have a
little privacy? Donna takes Dash aside, and Vicky continues to press
Bobby for information. He insists he has his reasons, she's better off
not knowing, he took a big risk even coming back to town. So why did you
come back? she wants to know. When he won't explain, she kicks herself
for buying into his "lonesome cowboy" act, and reasserts that her priority
is her kids - so for their sake she's ending things between them right
here and now. He's also upset with himself; I never expected this, he
mumbles, but - I'm in love with you. Vicky's stunned, but she doesn't
believe a word he says, he's been lying to her all along. She vows to
find out who he really is. He begs her to leave it alone. Then you leave
me alone, she insists, I want to forget I ever knew a "Bobby Reno." He
leaves in a snit (or is it a tizzy?) [see below]. Donna tries to stop
him, your work isn't done, you can't just walk out. It's what he's good
at, snaps Vicky. Donna says good riddance, pleased at the rift - all
there was was a physical relationship. We never got that far, Vicky
admits, to Donna's relief. Then Vicky spots a familiar musician in the
entryway talking with Dash - it's "Tugboat" (the guy who had greeted Bobby
as "Shane" the other night at the blues club). She pulls him away from
Dash and tries to question him about "Shane," but Tugboat claims he'd been
mistaken, he's just here to audition for Donna. Donna invites Vicky to
stay and listen; Vicky accuses Tugboat of lying to her, and Dash watches
with interest as she stalks out.

VICKY'S HOUSE - Toni is visiting with Etta Mae, who is babysitting
[thought the kids were flying to San Francisco?]. Toni is distraught over
the charges against Joe and how the Commish had dissed him in front of the
squad; she's trying to be a good cop like her dad, but she doesn't know
who to trust anymore. Vicky enters, and Toni prepares to leave. Vicky
asks Toni for a favor - could she run a computer check for a criminal
named Shane Something, probably Southeast Texas? Etta Mae notes with
alarm that her description sounds like Bobby, but Toni reminds her you
never know who you can trust, and she agrees to run the search. She
exits, heading for the station house [see above]. Etta Mae questions
whether Vicky really thinks Bobby is a felon. Why not - I KNOW he's a
liar, she snaps. Etta Mae sticks around to get her to talk about what's
bothering her. Vicky reports that her trip to Texas only gave her more
doubts, and that Bobby isn't the real Bobby Reno. She admits she just saw
him at the Harbor Club, he told me he loved me, but that was just another
lie to throw me off his trail. Etta May isn't so sure; she says it's been
obvious for a long time how he feels about you. Vicky's response is that
he obviously fooled them both, and maybe they'll know more after Toni runs
the computer search.

MYSTERY HOUSE - Bobby returns to visit the woman in the bed. The
other woman [sorry, I've forgotten her name] warns him it's dangerous to
visit so often - you could be followed, and then they'd find me! I won't
be coming back, he tells her, gazing at the woman in the bed; it's all
falling apart, she [Vicky] already knows too much - I have to stop her.
[Probably another murder, killing women is what they're good at...]

VICKY'S HOUSE - In the quiet of the evening, Vicky sips her coffee
with Etta Mae and bemoans how Bobby's deceit has ruined the peace and good
feelings Bridget had intended for this house to provide. Etta Mae tries
to comfort her. There's a knock at the door. It's Toni, with the results
of her search. She found 3 convicted felons named Shane: one is a
rapist; one was an embezzler; and the third killed a woman. [Any
guesses?] She hands the files to Vicky, and Vicky anxiously opens them on
the table and starts skimming through the rap sheets and mug shots. FADE
TO BLACK.

That's it - another week w/o Frankie, another plot w/o Cass - how much of
this do they think I can take????
