Greetings, here is the update for Another World for
Friday, April 21, 1995:

* Vicky and Ryan settle into family life
* Lorna and Felicia both get smart
* Justine toys with Spence's mind
* Joe tracks down Paulina

JOE/RACHEL/EVAN/AMANDA

Joe tells Rachel he found Eberhardt, who told him
Jake was ditching Paulina and running off with the money
when he died. Rachel doubts he should believe the word
of a hitwoman, Jake loved Paulina. Joe says he promised
Paulina he'd report back to her, would Rachel walk over
with him to tell her. She's still up at the cabin, says
Rachel; Joe is worried, she shouldn't be wallowing up
there all alone. Rachel says Paulina has to work through
this on her own, like I did when Mac died; if you're
concerned, call her. Joe doesn't want to give her the
bad news over the phone - I have to follow up a lead in
Crawfordsville, think she'd mind if I dropped by? If she
does, she'll tell you, says Rachel. She walks him out
the front [see below].
Meanwhile, on the terrace, Evan and Amanda are back
from the Harbor Club. She invites him to make himself a
drink while she goes up to check on Alli, then they can
watch a movie together. He agrees and enters from the
terrace door; as he pours a drink, Rachel returns and
blasts him for going after Amanda when she's vulnerable.
Better me than Grant, says Evan, he wants her back big
time. She's fine without either one of you, she doesn't
need a man to feel safe, Rachel retorts, just let her be.
All I've ever wanted was for her to be happy, says Evan,
I'm just trying to be there for her. That phrase always
makes me nauseous, says Rachel, I don't like you, I don't
trust you [who can blame her, after what he did to
Iris/Jake/Paulina/Carl?], I want you out of Amanda's
life. Amanda arrives in time to hear the end of this.
Get him out of here before Carl gets home, Rachel tells
her, exiting. That was rude, Amanda says to her as she
leaves. Amanda tells Evan that Alli is shaky, since the
fire she has nightmares and imagines smelling smoke. You
stay with Alli, says Evan, we'll take a rain check on the
movie, I'll call you tomorrow. As he leaves, she assures
him she's a big girl, she doesn't need her mother's
approval to see him. He gives her a little kiss -
neither do I, he winks, and he exits.

PAULINA/VICKY/RYAN et al.

At the cabin, Paulina is still mourning and sighing
over Jake's picture. Tearful, she calls Vicky for
support. Vicky answers the phone while holding Kirk, as
Ryan and Steven are wrestling and playing football around
her. She gets even more weepy when Vicky talks about how
much Kirk is growing; Paulina obviously wants to talk,
but it's so noisy on Vicky's end that she says she'll
call back in a few days, and hangs up.
Vicky and Ryan play with the kids most of the
evening, until Bridget takes them up to bed. Ryan tells
Vicky he saw Spence earlier, Spence railed at him for
exposing Grant in open court instead of cutting a private
deal (yeah, right, they agree) that would have spared the
Harrison name and Grant's career. Don't worry, says
Ryan, I told him where to get off; he was livid, but who
cares; and the way things turned out, I'd go through the
whole thing again, all of it. They kiss, happy and
contented.
Later Vicky goes up to tuck in the kids, and returns
to find Ryan pouring them some wine before they heat up
Bridget's casserole for dinner. She wonders if he's
really o.k. with this ready-made family, diapers and
baby-wipes, two kids with two different fathers, three
fathers once they have their own kids together. Ryan
assures her he loves being a family with her, he wishes
he'd had a mother who'd fight and sacrifice for her kids
the way Vicky has, and her kids will be grateful in the
years to come.

JUSTINE/SPENCE/LORNA/GRANT

Approaching Grant's door, Justine ducks away when
Spence emerges. She slips into the elevator [see below],
but Spence catches a glimpse. Stunned, he runs to the
elevator as the doors close. Lorna arrives in answer to
Grant's summons, and sees Spence's distress, but tells
him she didn't see any woman, she had taken the stairs.
Spence heads for the stairs to try to catch Justine [see
below].
Lorna knocks on Grant's door; what's with Spence,
she asks, he was chasing after some woman. Good, says
Grant, maybe he'll stop bugging me. He starts whining
about how tough it is, after being a Senator, to be
treated like just another person, like the snotty waiter
at the Harbor Club. He describes going there for dinner
[yeah, right], and scuffling with Evan over Amanda.
Lorna gets testy at Amanda's name, but Grant draws her
back with the sad tale of how he left and drove
automatically to his home - only to find it burnt to the
ground, the first time he'd been back since the fire.
Then he drove over past Vicky's, as if he expected her to
bring Kirk to the window. He could deal with all his
other disasters, but to have his son consider him a
failure... [Don't be silly, he doesn't KNOW you yet...!]
Lorna tries to comfort him, but he says he's failed her,
too - he's no longer the strong, powerful man she was
attracted to, and he doesn't want her here out of pity.
It's o.k., she says, embracing him. Grant, of course,
turns the embrace into a kiss, and Lorna responds - but
when he tries to unbutton her suit jacket, she pulls
away. Grant gets testy at Lorna's rejection, but she
says nothing personal, I'm just not in the mood. He
claims he used to imagine their life together after he
and Amanda split [yeah, right], and this wasn't it.
Lorna says get some rest, I'll see you tomorrow, watch
some TV (like your voters do), Charles Grodin is very
funny... She exits [see below], leaving Grant helpless
and fuming.

SPENCE/FELICIA/LORNA

Spence arrives at Wally's and finds Felicia browsing
through a new book - good thing you're not selling
chocolates, he teases. She offers him a cappucino, but
he's here about Annie, is she still at your place? No,
says Felicia, I think she went back to Europe to join
Fiona. Spence looks concerned, but says he never met any
of Justine's family in the nine years they were married,
so he'd really like to talk to her sister Annie. Don't
hound her, says Felicia, she's very edgy, especially
about Justine. She wonders about Spence's decision to
keep Justine's real fate a secret - it affected a lot of
people, like your sons. I wanted to protect my children,
says Spence; right now I'm worried about Grant. They
both agree that Lorna and Grant are bad for each other,
but Spence blames Lorna. Lorna didn't make him shoot
himself and frame Vicky, Felicia retorts, he could
destroy her if this continues. Spence begs her to get
Lorna to back off, but Felicia says she's through
interfering, she refuses to plot and scheme with her
child's life, and Spence should lay off, too.
Later, after Wally's is closed, Lorna arrives to
find Felicia straightening up. Felicia tells her about
Spence's visit. He wants us to conspire to break up you
and Grant, says Felicia, but I told him to bug off -
surprised? I don't like it, she continues, but I've
decided to try to let you live your own life, I want you
to be able to trust me, to not feel like you have to be
careful what you tell me. Lorna hugs her, grateful and
moved. I was just with Grant, says Lorna, I'm sure
Spence told you; he wanted me to stay - Grant, not Spence
- but for some reason I didn't feel like it. Felicia
looks like she's about to burst. O.k., says Lorna, you
can say it. Hallelujah! she squeals; o.k., that's it, I
won't say another word - but as a reward, I get to take
you home and make you some dinner and mother you.
Laughing together, they exit arm in arm, turning off the
lights as they go.

JUSTINE/CHRISTOPHE/SPENCE/GRANT

Justine returns to her suite, telling Christophe
that Spence caught sight of her, but as usual she was too
quick for him. Chris is afraid her re-emergence could
drive Spence crazy, an idea which appeals to Justine.
You've had several younger, nicer husbands since that old
geezer, says Chris, don't sacrifice yourself. Of course
not, purrs, Justine, I'll sacrifice Spence instead.

Spence returns to his apartment, finding Grant
sprawled on the couch in the dark, wearing his robe and
pajamas, trying to watch TV and flipping channels with
the remote. Spence turns on the lights, pours a drink,
and sits on the couch beside Grant. He apologizes for
their earlier argument over Lorna, and promises they'll
rebuild Grant's career, his house - or sell the land and
buy a new one. I can't talk about this now, says Grant,
I just need to get my son back. It'll happen, says
Spence, and if Amanda won't come back, you'll find
someone else, things will turn around. He also
apologizes for being such a lousy father after he "lost"
Justine. That wasn't your fault, she died giving birth
to Ryan, says Grant. The point is, Spence answers
evasively, after I found out Justine was carrying another
man's child, I never could repair the damage it did to
me, so I obsessed over your career; I never gave you the
affection, the stable, happy family life you needed, and
I don't want you to end up like me. You did your best,
it was my fault for not listening to you, says Grant, I
let you down. Don't ever say that, says Spence, you and
Ryan are all I have.
The phone rings, and Spence answers it. Hello, he
says, is anyone there? On the other end, Justine just
stands silently, toying with a small pair of scissors.
[What is it with this dame and scissors?] As Grant urges
Spence to hang up, Spence keeps asking Who is it, Who's
there. "Guess," Justine finally says mockingly, and she
hangs up. You're very bad, Chris teases her. He
deserves it, after all he did to me, Justine says smugly,
I hope he doesn't sleep a wink.
Spence is obviously shaken by the voice, but just
tells Grant it was no one, they hung up. I've been
flooded with crank calls since I resigned, says Grant,
I'll have the number changed tomorrow. Good idea, Spence
answers enthusiastically.

JOE/PAULINA

Joe tentatively approaches the cabin, finally knocks
on the door. Startled, Paulina wipes away her tears and
opens the door. He says he's here to take her back home,
but she invites him in, saying forget it, I have more
stuff to think through, but it's getting better. He
helps her build up the fire, and she says she's glad she
hired him, it makes her feel like she's doing something
positive for Jake's memory. He finally says he was in
the area checking on a lead, and stopped by to report
that he'd found Eberhardt. What did she say, Paulina
asks anxiously. Joe just says you can't take a mob
assassin as a reliable source, she bad-mouthed you guys
for what you did to her, but after what she did to you,
why would Jake give her his itinerary? I see, says
Paulina, no help from Bunny, so what's next? With a
small sigh of relief, Joe says he's going to check out
the mechanic in Crawfordsville, small town mechanics know
everything. She says she's grateful that he's taking her
seriously, she knows Jake wasn't leaving her. Again, Joe
offers to take her home and return to Crawfordsville in
the morning. That's silly, says Paulina, just stay here
tonight, I could use the company, you can sleep on the
couch. He tries to beg off, but she insists so he
agrees. As she leaves to get ready for bed, he sighs
nervously.
Later, on the couch, Joe has stripped to the waist
and has one leg out of his jeans when Paulina returns.
He grabs a blanket to cover up, as she apologetically
retrieves a box of tissues from the couch beside him and
tosses it out of his way, totally clueless to the effect
she has on him. He comments on her robe; I think it used
to be my father's she answers. She offers him some of
Jake's pajamas, it gets cold here, although men are like
radiators, Jake could barely stand a sheet while I needed
five blankets... Joe declines, and Paulina wishes him
goodnight - but she keeps him edgy by returning a few
more times to point out blankets in the cedar chest,
towels in the bathroom, bathroom behind the kitchen, and
please don't leave before I get up in the morning. Sleep
tight, she says finally, exiting for the last time. Joe
finishes undressing and stretches out uncomfortably on
the couch. He feels like someone's watching him, looks
around, and sees Jake's picture smiling at him from the
end table; he reaches over and turns it around, then
tries to settle in. Who'm I kidding, he says suddenly
sitting up, I can't sleep, not with her in there. He
sighs, "In your dreams, Carlino." FREEZE FRAME.
