Here is the update for Another World for Friday, April 14,
1995 (hope y'all got your taxes done...):

* Cass and Frankie rekindle the flame
* Donna plans her engagement party; Vicky is appalled at a
familiar name on her guest list
* Spence and Carl tell Rachel the Justine saga (with B&W
flashbacks)
* Justine plans her reign of terror

CASS/FRANKIE

Cass comes home carrying his briefcase, calls out to
Frankie, Charlie, Felicia, Karen [Karen??], but no response.
He sees a present on the edge of the couch, addressed to The
Lawyer Who Just Solved the Grant Harrison Shooting Mystery.
Frankie emerges wearing flannel pajamas, carrying a tray
with cookies and milk. The present is a dumb movie as you
requested, she says, and tonight is just for the two of us.
Later, as they cuddle and make out on the couch, Cass
suddenly thinks he hears Charlie. Felicia picked her up an
hour ago, says Frankie. [Where did she take her? Not her
apartment - Annie's still there; and Charlie's a little
young for dinner and a movie...bowling, maybe?] They share
opposite sides of the same cookie, snuggle a while, then
Cass makes some prepostrous guesses about what video Frankie
got. Shut up, she whispers, and they continue smooching in
front of the fireplace. They agree that they should have
made time for this a long time ago, but their lives have
been a real zoo lately. Then a funky jazz song comes on the
radio, and Cass wants to dance. He starts out doing the
funky chicken, they segue into the bump ("cheek-to-cheek"),
but are soon dancing much closer. As they dance, Frankie
starts to say something, but Cass says we can talk later,
right now I'd rather make love. Lip to lip, they dance
toward the bedroom...

VICKY/RYAN/DONNA/MATT

Vicky and Ryan are sitting the couch kissing. He tears
himself away, saying he has to go see Spencer - the message
on his machine said Spence was back in town and going to see
Grant; Grant probably gave him an earful, so Ryan wants
Spence to hear his side.
As he leaves [see below], Donna enters. She shows
Vicky the proposed guest list for her and Matt's engagement
party. Vicky is appalled to see Michael's name on the list.
Donna says the invitation will be just a courtesy, she's
sure Michael wouldn't actually show up. Vicky says, besides
being a tacky idea, she has no desire to see Michael - she
hasn't heard from him for months, not even during her trial;
Michael just doesn't care anymore. Matt arrives [still
hasn't learned to knock], and Vicky is interested to see
Donna hide the guest list as he enters. Everything o.k.?
Matt asks. Yes, says Donna; No, says Vicky. Matt ducks out
to get a glass of water, while Donna and Vicky continue to
argue over inviting Michael. He won't show up, says Donna,
and if he does, Matt will handle it just fine - I'll tell
him when the time is right. Matt returns, and Vicky coyly
shows him the guest list and points out Michael's name.
Before Matt can read the list, the phone rings - it's KBAY,
Matt's been expecting the call and he takes it in the other
room. Vicky insists inviting Michael would be a big
mistake, but Donna says she's inviting him anyway. Matt
rushes back in, says he and Donna have to make arrangements
for KBAY to cover Grant's hospital room press conference
tomorrow - they think he's announcing his resignation.
Donna squeals with (too much) delight, and hustles Matt out
the door. Vicky walks pensively to the table by the sofa,
and picks up and studies a photo of Donna and Michael in
happier days.

RACHEL/SPENCER/CARL/RYAN

At Spence's place, Rachel confronts Spence about why he
never told her she looked like Justine, and why he lied
about Justine dying in childbirth. Spence says Carl should
have told you about the resemblance to the wife he stole
from me. Carl bursts in, gives Rachel a funny look at
finding her here, then leaps to her side: we both want
answers, Spence, says Carl, start 'splainin.' Spence keeps
trying to shift the argument to Justine's resemblance to
Rachel, which Carl should have revealed. Carl and Rachel
are more interested in the lie of Justine's death, which
also affected the lives of Grant and Ryan. You can't just
get rid of a spouse who cheats on you, says Rachel, tell me
from the beginning what really happened. Fine, says Spence.
He starts the story, and Carl fills in some blanks from his
perspective, as they flash back to the beginning (in black &
white). Spence had hosted a party at his home, celebrating
his business and social success. Carl was the guest of his
date, he had never met the pretentious Spencer or his
charming wife before, but Justine seemed to be watching him
all night. He assumed she was safely married. Spence
claims Carl ruined his life by stealing his wife; Carl
counters that Spence never paid Justine any attention, he
just used her for her social and business connections.
Justine was so lonely in that marriage she turned to me,
says Carl, and I responded to her need and was mesmerized by
her - I gave her my child, but I never knew it. Then he
turns on Spence: All these years you've cruelly allowed Ryan
to blame himself for his mother's death.
There's a knock at the door; Ryan enters, surprised to
find Carl and Rachel there with Spence. Hope I'm not
interrupting, says Ryan warily. No, says Rachel, we were
just discussing Grant's divorce from Amanda, and how it will
affect Alli. Children are so easily hurt, says Carl
pointedly. I came to discuss Grant, says Ryan, but I can
come back another time - sorry you had to get hit with all
this stuff the minute you arrived. Carl remarks how
considerate Ryan is of Spence, despite their troubles.
We've put all that in the past, says Ryan, Spence did his
best. He exits [see below]; Carl rails at Spence for all
he's put Ryan through - but Rachel wants Spence to finish
his story.
Spence says he could put up with a discreet affair, but
when Justine tried to pass off Carl's child as Spence's, he
couldn't take the humiliation - so he cut her a deal: she
would disappear to Europe, he would tell everyone she had
died [closed casket, no doubt], and he'd send her monthly
support checks for the rest of her life. Where is Justine
now, Carl and Rachel ask. She's dead, says Spence. Ten
years ago she wrote to say she was marrying a rich Count,
she didn't need my payoffs anymore; then later I saw her
obituary in Le Monde, she'd died in a boating accident on
Lake Como, you can check it out (Count on it, interjects
Carl). You have nothing to fear from Justine, not anymore,
Spence says.

Carl and Rachel return home; Carl says he'll have
Justine's death checked out in Europe, but Rachel is
relieved that the truth is out in the open and they can move
on. Carl regrets the part he played in that long-ago
tragedy; we've been through many trials lately, he says, but
we've never stopped loving each other. Rachel suggests they
try being a normal couple for a while; they kiss, then head
upstairs arm-in-arm.

VICKY/RYAN

Back at Vicky's, Ryan describes the scene of walking in
on Carl and Rachel confronting Spence about Grant. I didn't
think it was fair to Spence to gang up on him, so I made a
quick exit, he says. I just wanted to get home where it was
safe and warm and happy. Vicky remembers walking by happy-
looking homes when she was a child, and wishing she were a
part of that life, but now she feels like she has the kind
of life she always dreamed of. Me too, says Ryan; they kiss
happily.

JUSTINE/ANNA/KRISTOF

Justine, who looks remarkably like Rachel's evil twin
(surprise surprise), bursts in on her sister "Scaredy Annie"
at Felicia's place. Justine is an unpleasant cross between
Joan Crawford and the Wicked Witch of the West. I've come
to get what's mine, she sneers. Anna begs her sister to
just leave her in peace, but Justine says she's here to help
her son Grant, now that his life is a shambles and
everyone's deserted him. You can't tell Grant you're alive,
it would destroy him, pleads Anna, as Justine grabs her by
the throat with one black-gloved hand. Spence convinced
everyone you were a loyal wife who died giving birth to
Ryan, Anna continues, if you come back now your children
will wonder why you abandoned them for 25 years; Grant will
hate Spence, but he'll hate you even more - who wins then?
I know how to be subtle, Justine screeches, but Grant needs
me. That's not the only reason you're here, Anna guesses.
Carl, "smiles" Justine; he married a woman who looks just
like me, that means he never got over me, he still loves me.
Don't believe it, says Anna, Carl told me he never loved you
the way he loves Rachel. Not pleased, Justine says it's
time for Anna to hit the road. Anna resists, but Justine
threatens to track down Fiona and tell her about Anna's life
as a bag lady, I can still destroy her and her respect for
you. Then Justine taunts Anna as she backs out the door -
Scaredy Annie, Scaredy Annie...bye-bye... Anna, terrified,
rushes to the door and bolts it (too little, too late, eh?).
She gathers up her jeweled gown and rushes to the bedroom
(to pack, no doubt).
Justine returns to her hotel suite. Her lackey,
Kristof, notes her distress and urges her to confide in him
so he can help her better. She, too, flashes back in black
& white: before she was the Comtesse, she was married to
Spencer Harrison (Yes, she confirms to a surprised Kristof,
I'm the Senator's mother). Spence, the son and grandson of
potato farmers, she sneers with disgust, needed my
connections, and I was the perfect wife and mother. Then,
when he had achieved the level of success he had dreamed
about, Spence decided we should throw a dinner party...and I
met and was drawn to Carl. He had paid her little
attention, which made her want him more. She even
rearranged the place cards so Carl sat beside her at dinner;
during Spence's toast, Justine felt Carl stroking her thigh
under the table. After dinner, Spence organized a parlor
game, "Murder," where they turned off the lights and people
groped around the house in the dark. Justine hated parlor
games, Carl had disappeared, so she went upstairs to go to
bed. As she walked down the hallway, Carl suddenly appeared
and pulled her into a corner, initiating a passionate
clinch. Then he smoothed back his hair and rejoined the
party, but she was a goner.
She followed him to Chicago, and they had a hot and
heavy affair for six months - until he left her, just before
she found out she was pregnant. When Spence figured out the
truth, he took the baby and banished Justine out of their
lives. I only got to hold my baby for less than ten
seconds, before Spencer took him away, snarls Justine. I
had to agree to his terms, he threatened to have his lawyers
get me declared an unfit mother, an unstable personality,
and to have me committed. I wasn't even allowed to say
goodbye to my children, she snaps. She was left with no
choice and no life, and eventually gave up fighting, but she
never forgot what had been taken away from her. She often
tried to call or write, but she couldn't find the words to
explain to her sons, so she remained absent from their
lives. I've been silent long enough, growls Justine.
After hearing her story, Kristof urges her to get out
of Bay City fast, you've gone to a lot of trouble to fake
your death. No, says Justine, I have to make sure Carl
still loves me, and that my children know I'm alive; I want
back what's mine: my lover and my sons. She raises her
brandy glass, squeezing it so hard it shatters in her hand.
