Here is the Easter Weekend Update for Another World for Friday, March 28,
1997:

With the fire at Carlinos, everyone migrates to another hangout without
missing a beat - and without even mentioning the change or the fire! It
wasn't clear where they were, not the Harbor Club, didn't look like
Sassy's. It could have been Bobby's friend's jazz club/coffee house,
although I didn't think very many people knew it was there...but they've
sure found it NOW!

* Joe faces a crisis - and a dilemma
* John and Felicia meet with Babs the Realtor - Cass gets an ACTUAL SCENE!
* Jake makes a decision, gets advice from Alli
* Vicky tries to scope out Grant, while Cindy stalks him!

CARLINOS - As Sofia surveys the fire damage, the insurance adjuster
tours the kitchen with Joe. He tells Joe it looks like the fire started
when a faulty wire ignited a greasy rag - that's negligence, insurance
won't pay for that. Bobby arrives and gives Joe his repair estimate, the
absolute cheapest he can do, sorry. Sofia looks at the estimate - we
can't afford this, she cries, voicing what Joe couldn't. Later, Joe stews
over how they'll have to find some way to re-open, even thought they can't
afford the repairs. He refuses to consider Sofia's suggestion to get a
loan from Paulina's family. He ambles dejectedly out to the dining area.
Paulina enters and asks about the insurance appraisal and Bobby's
estimate. Joe lets her believe the insurance will cover the repairs, and
asks her casually about the greasy rag. She guesses maybe it was the
stove repairman. Sofia bursts in from the kitchen and tells Joe he should
ask Aunt Franny for the money. What money, asks Paulina, upset that Joe's
breaking his promise not to keep secrets anymore. Joe insists things will
be tight, but they'll manage - without Aunt Franny.  Paulina backs him up;
but she also urges him to confide in her about his worries, she can tell
he's been troubled about work, let me help. You already do, he smiles,
embracing her. As Sofia watches, Neil comes in and offers his condolences
on the fire. He and Joe sit and talk shop. Neil says the Commissioner
wants the case closed on Gabe's murder, now that they have the murder
weapon and Grant in custody. Joe reluctantly tells him he's sure the gun
was planted, he's not so sure they have the right guy. Paulina serves
them coffee, then hangs around to eavesdrop. Neil insists the brass is
satisfied Grant was responsible for Gabe's death, so drop it; but Joe vows
he won't stop until he finds out the whole story. He storms off; Paulina
apologizes to Neil about Joe, he's upset over the fire, on top of job
pressure. She's surprised when Neil tells her that Joe's found Gabe's
murderer, he never discusses work with me. She's worried about Joe's
conflicts with the Commish. Neil reassures her that Joe's doing fine,
everything will work out. He renews his offer for her to call anytime she
wants to vent or needs reassurance, and he exits. Paulina tells Sofia she
thinks Neil's a good guy, he's on Joe's side. [Famous last words?] Joe
returns, and Paulina urges him to be more diplomatic with the Commish.
Joe responds that Gabe didn't let the Commish strong-arm him, and neither
will I. He exits; Paulina frets.
Joe gets in his car to return to the station. His foot kicks
something under the driver's seat; he reaches down and finds a paper sack.
He dumps out the contents on the seat beside him: it's a pile of cash, in
money wrappers!

JAZZ CLUB/COFFEE HOUSE (?) - John and Felicia meet with Babs the
Realtor, to get her started on finding them a place of their own. As she
quizzes them, it's clear they have widely different ideas: Felicia wants
to buy, John wants to rent; she wants contemporary, he wants traditional;
she wants a condo in the city, he wants a house in the country - with a
trout stream! Talk it over, says Babs, and get back to me.
After Babs leaves, they sip coffee and toss around ideas, but can't
come up with anything. John suggests she's comfortable where she is,
maybe they've had enough disruptions for one year (what with Sharlene's
and Lorna's injuries and Gabe's death), I've been pushing this idea on
you, maybe we should hold off? Felicia says she loved the idea, maybe
it's John who's having second thoughts - about moving, or even about us?
Eventually they agree neither wants the other to change just to adapt to
their old life, they're perfect just as they are. Let's just concentrate
on being together, says John. Again a definite difference: she suggests
museums, the ballet, the opera; he suggests baseball games and old movies
on the tube. He gets beeped by the hospital and has to go. He promises
to work on a solution, gives her a kiss, and exits, running into Bobby
and Vicky on their way in [see below].
In some manner not explained [did she call him? Had they already
planned to meet? Was he just in the neighborhood, looking for a new
"office"?], Cass has joined Felicia at her table. She apologies that
things have been so crazy lately, but now she wants to devote lots more
time to her goddaughter Charlie. Cass is pleased, but senses that
something's bothering her. She denies it, insisting that things are going
great for her, but Cass doesn't buy it. She finally admits that she's
scared to death that it will all be taken away - look what happened to
Gabe and Lorna - and no one was happier than Cass and Frankie... Cass
urges her not to think like that, he wouldn't trade one minute of the joy
he shared with Frankie for a whole lifetime with anyone else, and she
should accept her happiness as a gift for as long as it lasts. That's
what Frankie would have said to me, smiles Felicia. They share a
bittersweet hug; thank you, both of you, sniffs Felicia.
Later, Cass has disappeared; Felicia calls Babs on her cell phone
from her table, at the same time John is calling Babs from a pay phone.
As Babs apparently switches back and forth between the unsuspecting pair,
each asks Babs to look for the kind of place the OTHER had described...

PSYCH WARD (BCUH, formerly BCGH) - While Jake, posing as a patient,
is secretly grilling Cindy, she shows him a blade from a pair of scissors;
she plans to use it on Grant at her first opportunity. Grant spots them,
then eases over to the orderlies and claims his enemies are out to get
him, he needs protection. They "help" him into a chair, where he zones
out, holding his head in pain. As Jake struggles to restrain Cindy, the
orderlies notice the commotion and challenge Jake's presence. Jake
pretends to be delusional. Grant clicks into Senator mode, demanding
more security guards, then planning what wine to serve for lunch with the
President and First Lady. Jake tries to convince Cindy not to try to kill
Grant, the doctors will soon see through his fake insanity and he'll get
the justice he deserves from the court. Cindy wants revenge, she's sure
Grant hired the sniper who killed Gabe, and predicts that Grant will
outsmart the doctors and elude the system - he'll get away with it unless
I stop him! She ducks out the back hallway with the blade [see below].
Before Jake can stop her, the orderly grabs him to check him in as a
patient. Jake escapes his grasp and dashes out the door after Cindy,
chased by the orderly.

CORY MANSION - Alli is staying home from school with a sore throat
and cough, which she's mainly faking. Amanda checks her temperature,
normal, and feeds her lozenges and orange juice. As they chat, Alli
wonders why no one wants to marry her mom, including Jake (Good! Amanda
observes), and announces that she (Alli) and Jake will get married in a
big cathedral like Princess Di, and they'll never get divorced. No one
ever expects divorce when they get married, says Amanda, but sometimes
things change. Like you and Daddy, Alli notes. She plans to get a job on
the Herald, so she can work with Hubby Jake, which reminds Amanda she has
her article to write about Vicky and Bobby's survival in the snow. The
doorbell rings, and Jake (apparently unscathed by his escape from the
psych ward) bursts in looking for Carl. Amanda says he's not here, try
back in an hour; Jake invites himself in to wait. He makes a big fuss
over the "sick" Alli, and he and Amanda trade boss/employee insults until
Alli tells Amanda that she and Jake "want to be alone - please?" Jake
promises to watch Alli while he waits for Carl, he just has to make a
phone call first. Amanda exits, and Jake retreats to the foyer to call
Carl's cell phone - no answer. He mumbles about just letting Cindy stab
Grant, then worries about being a possible accomplice, I can't let her do
it. Do what? asks Alli, catching the end. Jake says he's trying to
decide if tomorrow's headline should be about someone getting killed.
Alli urges him to pick something else. He notices that Buster the Turtle
has produced some eggs, and Alli wonders if turtles fall in love. Not
like people, says Jake, when people fall in love their hearts connect, and
they do all sorts of crazy, romantic things - like stealing door knockers
and Christmas trees. When Alli asks, Jake says the most romantic thing a
man can do is to get down on one knee, tell the woman how much he loves
her, and ask her to... He stops, then suddenly goes over to the phone.
Where are you, Carl, he stews; he calls the psych ward, ignores the grief
they apparently give him, and alerts them that Cindy Brooke has a weapon,
check the flowerpot. He goes back and tells Alli he thinks he's taken
care of that headline. She produces a ring and prompts him, now's your
chance to propose to me! Touched, Jake sweetly tells Alli he can't give
her the ring, because he doesn't want his heart broken again; she'll
doubtless grow up and meet someone else, and she'll resent Jake for tying
her down. Alli swears she'll never want anyone else, and she's afraid
he'll fall in love with someone else before she grows up. No chance, Jake
sighs, I don't think I'll ever fall in love again. He kisses her forehead
and gives her a hug.

VICKY'S HOUSE - Vicky finds Kirkland making a get-well card for
Grant. Kirk wants to go deliver it to his daddy in person. Vicky tells
him Grant still isn't feeling well enough for visitors. Is he going to
die? Kirk worries, and Vicky reassures him. Kirk wonders why Daddy hasn't
even called, doesn't he love me anymore? Vicky assures him Grant loves
him very much; then the phone rings. It's Bobby; Vicky apologizes for the
surprise birthday fiasco, and Bobby says it's o.k., I appreciated the
thought. Then Vicky asks him to drop by, I need your help with a
problem... Bobby comes over, and Vicky tells him about Kirk's distress
over Grant's absence. She wants to arrange a phone call from Grant, but
Bobby's afraid if Grant flips out like he did in court, it could scare
Kirk even more. Vicky sends Kirk upstairs so she and Bobby can talk.
Bobby's convinced Grant is faking insanity, but Vicky's not so sure, why
would he intentionally cut himself off from Kirk? To prevent going to
prison and losing Kirk forever, Bobby guesses, talk to his doctors. He
could easily fool the doctors, muses Vicky - but he can't fool me! She
calls out to Etta Mae, then dashes out to face down Grant in the psych
ward. Bobby follows, shaking his head.

PSYCH WARD - Vicky and Bobby arrive at the psych ward to find Grant
sitting in a daze. Bobby watches from the side as Vicky sits next to
Grant and confronts him about trying to kill her and Bobby. Grant perks
up when he sees her, greets her happily as his loving wife, visiting him
at this prestigious think-tank to discuss campaign strategy. Vicky
claims she's not buying his act, he's been out of the Senate for years -
keep this up and you'll never see Kirk again! Grant sobers, says he
misses Kirk, but the demands of public service force him to sacrifice time
with his son. Cindy, who's been observing all this, makes a move toward
Grant, then bolts out and hides in the hallway. Bobby and Vicky, who
hadn't noticed her before, watch her exit with astonishment. Grant
continues to babble about dinner with the Ambassador. The day-room is
disrupted as the orderlies, who've just received an anonymous tip (from
Jake - see above), burst in and scour the room for Cindy and her weapon.
Cindy, watching through a window from the hallway, ducks behind a planter,
then returns to the window after the orderlies are gone. She brandishes
the blade, awaiting her chance at Grant, who's standing near the doorway.
She's about to burst in, when she hears a nurse's scolding voice behind
her. As she ducks back into hiding, she sees the nurse catch another
patient in the hallway and escort him back inside.
Grant, Vicky and Bobby have moved away from the door by now. As
Grant talks to an invisible colleague about his son, Vicky signals to
Bobby to produce Kirk's card. She hands it to Grant, who seems overcome
with emotion, he's my life! She assures him Kirk really misses him. As
she starts to leave, he seems to recognize her anew, thanks her for
coming, kisses her cheek, and says tell Kirk I'll be home in time to tuck
him in. Vicky and Bobby exit, and Vicky seems less sure that Grant is
faking it.
After they leave, Cindy emerges from hiding and moves back toward
the doorway. [see below]

JAZZ CLUB/COFFEE HOUSE - Bobby and Vicky, who run into John as he's
leaving (see above), arrive and take a table, and Vicky admits she thinks
Grant's mental breakdown is for real. Bobby thinks maybe the guilt
finally got to him, we all have a threshhold of pain. Vicky wonders if
Bobby's speaking from experience, maybe connected to his birthday-phobia?
She assures him they can tell each other anything - silly, bad, whatever -
they won't judge each other, it's called trust. He finally confides -
that he wants to take her someplace private so he can kiss her. What's
wrong with here? she wants to know. He's reluctant to kiss her in
public, but she gets him to agree they don't care who sees them. As their
lips meet across the table - they're startled and annoyed when someone
takes a flash picture of the moment!

PSYCH WARD (FINALE) - Grant sits motionless at the table, staring at
Kirk's card. The orderly informs the "Senator" he can return to his room
now. Grant nods and rises, clasping Kirk's card to his bosom, and drifts
out into the hallway. He immediately encounters the waiting Cindy. Face
to face, she raises the blade as if to stab him. FREEZE FRAME.

That's it for now -
