Here's the update for 3/19/96...

JAKE/BLAIR/MATT/CHRIS/DONNA

At the Herald office, Matt is giving everyone directives on how he wants the
story on Josie to read, with an emphasis on her heroism. In Matt's office,
Jake is once again taunting Blair with his knowledge of her past. Matt comes
in and asks them what is going on, but they pretend nothing is wrong. Later,
Jake and Matt have a shouting match over how to run the Herald: Matt wants
to hang on to standards of good taste and journalistic integrity, and Jake
wants to go for the flash and trash that sells papers. Matt comes out of the
office still fuming, and when he sees Donna at the door he is very brusque with
her, asking "What do you want?" Donna says they have something important to

talk about: the IRS. She has trouble filing their tax returns, and since they
were both business partners last year, she needs to confer with him. Matt
calms down and says he will call their joint accountant, and he makes the call.
Immediately afterward he goes over to Blair and asks her if she'd be interested
in a late dinner. Donna overhears. Later, Matt tells Donna that "It's done",
meaning that their tax problems are resolved, but Donna drifts off into a
fantasy in which Matt says "It's done, we're married again", and they share
a sultry clinch. Later, Matt is hounding Chris about the story on Josie, and
Chris says he will have it done in one hour. Elsewhere in the office, Blair
tells Jake that she's figured out why he hasn't spilled the beans yet: he
wants something from her. He does indeed: he wants to run an expose in the
Herald all about her past and how Gary is a snitch cop, and how she came to
town to get revenge. In return she will have enough money to go away and
start
over anywhere she likes. She refuses the deal, asking Jake if he's missing
the gene for respecting people's privacy. He tells her she'll come around
eventually. A little later, Jake makes a call saying that he'll run the story
on Josie his way, about what a "Model Cop" she is...as he says it, he's holding
some sexy photos of Josie from her modeling days.

NICK/SOPHIA/RILEY/MICHAEL

Nick and Sophia are all packed and ready to hit the road and run away together;

Sophia is fretting that they should already be on the Interstate. Nick tells
her to calm down, she's obviously never ridden all night on a motorcycle
before. As they're heading out the door, Michael comes in and asks them
where
they are going. Nick takes him aside and makes up some excuse about how
he
and Sophia are just going for a little ride, maybe out to the Old Mill.
Michael reminds Nick that he can't break his parole, and Nick says he just
wants to spend some time alone with Sophia and show her a good time.
Michael
is appeased and reminds them to wear their helmets, and goes out. Sophia
comments on how sad it is that this is the last time Nick will see his father.
Riley looks very mournful, and Nick says goodbye to him, and tells him to take
care of Michael. Just as they're about to leave, Sophia tells Nick that she
wants to leave Joe a goodbye note first. Nick is aghast, but Sophia assures
him she knows just the way to do it....

GARY/JOSIE

Gary and Josie come home to her apartment and make love. Later, Gary is up
and
wandering around the place, and again comes across Blair's bottle of perfume.
Josie comes up to him, and Gary says how strange it is that he never met Blair
in all the time she was living there. It's obvious the wheels in his head are
turning, but then he brushes it off by telling Josie that all sorts of "crazy
thoughts" are going through his head. A little later, he tells Josie how proud
he is of her, she did everything a cop is supposed to do in a hostage
situation. She says she must have been listening when she took his class at
the police academy. Josie says that she feels that tomorrow everything will
be different, and Gary reminds her that of course it will be: tomorrow he's
moving in...

CASS/FRANKIE/MAGGIE/CHARLIE/SOPHIA/NICK/JOE

At Cass and Frankie's place, Maggie is still enthusing about her new living
arrangements, and she assures Cass and Frankie that she won't bring any
trouble
into their house, she'll be on her best behavior. Cass chuckles and says that
she has Winthrop genes, and *he* was quite a party animal at her age, and he
doesn't expect her to not be herself. Frankie gives him a look and interjects
that they will expect Maggie to conform to house rules. Maggie assures them
she will. Later, Cass takes Charlie aside and tells her that Maggie is her
sister. Charlie takes it in stride and says that she likes Maggie. Charlie
asks Cass if she will still be his favorite girl, and Cass diplomatically
tells his youngest that she, Maggie and Frankie are *all* his favorite girls.
That's okay with Charlie, and she goes off to bed. Later, the doorbell rings
and it's Sophia, wanting to see Maggie. Sophia takes Maggie outside and she
and Nick tell her their plans to run away. Maggie is very upset, and when
they ask her to help them, she says she won't. They eventually convince her
to do them a favor: wait 24 hours, and then take Sophia's goodbye note to Joe.
Maggie is still quite tearful at the thought of them leaving. Sophia goes
ahead out to the motorcycle, and just as Nick turns away to leave, Maggie
asks him if he's not even going to say goodbye. Nick kisses her cheek and
tells her that he'll miss her crazy stunts. Nick and Sophia both leave.
Later that night, when only Maggie is still awake, the doorbell rings and when
Maggie answers it, it's Joe. He's there to tell Cass and Frankie about John's
illness, and Maggie says she'll pass it along. Maggie tells Joe that she has
something for him, and gives him the note. He reads it and is furious.
Maggie tells him that she's not entirely sure Nick and Sophia know what they're
getting into. Joe assures her that she's been a good friend to Sophia, more
than she could know, and after he leaves Maggie smirks to herself....

FELICIA/LORNA/JOHN

Lorna is apologizing to Felicia about having missed the awards ceremony, and
Felicia informs her that none of her friends showed up, except for Marshall.
Felicia unlocks her apartment door, and when they go in they find John passed
out on the floor. Felicia is frantic, as Lorna calls 911....

JOHN/FELICIA/LORNA/COURTNEY/MORGAN/FAX/RITA/MICHAEL/SHARL
ENE at the hospital

The hospital gets the call that the Chief of Staff is about to be brought into
the emergency room. Morgan and Courtney are on their way out the door,
ready
to leave on their trip, when they overhear and immediately swing into action.
Fax is miffed; he was supposed to take over Morgan's patients while Morgan
was gone, and he tries to get Morgan and Courtney to go ahead and take their
trip, but they inform him they're not going anywhere now. Rita tells everyone
to be prepared, John is coming in. John is wheeled into the ER by the
paramedics. Felicia is right behind, and stays and watches while the docs get
to work on him. John has a dangerously high fever and is unconscious.
Sharlene stands by and watches through the window of the ER. Michael
arrives
and offers her emotional support. Michael is blaming himself for not doing
anything when John collapsed at the basketball game the other day. Later,
the docs have done all they can for now and Felicia comes in and visits John's
bedside. She tells him that she loves him, and that she would be willing to
give him up and never see him again, if it meant that he would live and be
okay. John sluggishly regains consciousness and struggles to tell Felicia
to tell the doctors that he has malaria. With this new information, the docs
know better how to treat John, whose temperature is spiking at 105 degrees.
Felicia is chased out of the ER, and she meets up with Sharlene who is right
outside the door. Sharlene tries to ask Felicia what is going on in there,
but stumbles over the words. Both their faces are stricken with anxiousness
and worry....FREEZE FRAME.
