  - Annie's got TWO secrets...

BAILEY TURNS DESPERATE

Sharlene and Bailey struggle at the docks, as she
demands to know what he did to Linette. She's fine, he
growls, she took the money and ran - just like you did when
we "made love" years ago. Sharlene is livid - you may have
fooled everyone else, including yourself, but I know it's a
lie; I was too young to understand what was happening to me,
it was nothing less than rape. He scoffs that she wanted
it, all girls want it, and he's happy to oblige - but then
they always cry "rape" and the man gets blamed, and he's
sick of it. [He's sick, all right...] I'm not a child
anymore, she replies, you destroyed my life, and it's time
you paid the price. She shoves him off balance and takes
off; he recovers and goes after her, quickly catching her
and grabbing her from behind in a headlock. We're going to
the river, he tells her as she struggles - just like old
times. He doesn't notice that her shawl has fallen off on
the dock. At the riverbank, Sharlene tries to buy time by
urging Bailey to get help to stop destroying girls' lives as
well as your own. Bailey rants that Sharlene's psychosis
and his wife's drunkenness are not his fault. You're sick,
she says, but if you get help I promise I'll back off. At
first he laughs at her, then he rages, you're all liars, the
liars will pay, you'll never talk that way to me again. He
again grabs her from behind, choking her as she tries to
scream.

MEANWHILE - John has cleaned out his office at the
hospital, and arrives home with a carton of stuff. He finds
a note from Sharlene, saying she went to met Linette. He
sees a movement through the window, dashes out and nabs
Linette. Where's my wife, he demands, she's supposed to be
with you. He grills her until she admits Bailey got her to
set up Sharlene so he could meet with her. He promised he
wouldn't hurt her, Linette claims [although she obviously
has her doubts]. John insists she show him where Sharlene
was supposed to go, and they head off. The arrive at the
docks, but it's deserted. Linette says Sharlene is probably
fine, but John is frantic. He goes to the pay phone to
start calling around in case someone's seen her. [see
below]

PARTY - Part I

Carl and Rachel are about ready to leave for the phony
celebrity bash for Annie and her daughter. Carl gets a
phone report from a shady contact, and tells Rachel he's
found out about Tony's deal with Cass & Felicia, and why
they're so desperate for the charade to work. They can go
to the opera anytime - tonight, their friends need their
help.

Annie tells Cass she can't go on with the sham. He
convinces her it's going to work [it HAS to], and Annie and
Fiona make their entrance to the applause of the gathering
guests (the usual friends of Cass & Felicia, and some
homeless friends of Annie's, all dressed up for the
occasion). Tony makes them set up a receiving line, where
Fiona is introduced to Morgan and Lorna (as newly-wed jet-
setters), Donna and Matt (soccer team owner and her star
player), and Marshall (Prince of Botswana, he's surprised to
learn).

Ian, in his office, flashes back to when he told Josie
he didn't want her to be a cop, and she told him she'd give
up the academy if it bothered him so much. Josie arrives,
carrying her party dress in a dress box, one of the opera
recital gowns she inherited from Marty Callahan. It reminds
her of when Marty used to have her wear them and read his
wife's favorite poetry, because he missed her so much. It
makes her sad to remember, and Ian says you were special to
Marty, and now you're special to me. They kiss, then Ian
asks if she's decided yet whether to go with him to
Australia for a year. She says she needs more time. Fine,
he says, but he's disappointed; he exits, while she changes
into the dress.

Fiona mingles, and Morgan and Lorna have fun playing
their role. Later, Dave, a homeless man playing a nuclear
physicist, recognizes Lorna, and tells her she was on the
docks the night Grant was shot, waving a gun around.
Annie privately thanks Cass and Felicia for all their
help, and predicts both their daughters will be blessed for
what they've done for her. She walks away, as C & F puzzle
over her remark. Then Morgan rushes up and tells them about
the new witness who can clear Lorna of Grant's shooting.
Felicia is convinced it's the first part of Annie's
prediction coming true. They all talk with Dave, who tells
them he lives in a packing crate on the docks, and that
night Lorna stumbled down there with a gun. The gun went
off, and she fled before he could stop her, but it was the
same time as Grant was shot so Lorna is in the clear.

GRANT'S NEXT MOVE

Grant is recovering enough to sit up in a chair and do
paperwork. Ryan enters and sarcastically congratulates him
on his recovery. Grant says he can't wait to testify
against Vicky. Ryan claims Grant and Lorna made up this
whole story as a plot to keep Vicky away from Kirkland.
Your theory is full of holes, says Grant, like why would we
plan for me to nearly bleed to death? HMMMM? Ryan gives
Grant the surprise news that Lorna has gone to the cops and
confessed about getting drunk and firing a gun but not
remembering where or when. True, says Ryan, the bullet that
shot you came from Vicky's gun, not Lorna's; but you
probably cooked up your version later to save Lorna's skin
and get revenge on Vicky. You'll find out soon I'm telling
the truth, counters Grant, I've ordered a lie detector test,
stick around. That won't prove anything, says Ryan, you're
an expert liar, Spencer made sure of that from the time
you were a kid. Vicky's the world's worst liar, responds
Grant, and you believe her. You hate me even worse than you
hate Vicky, claims Ryan [out of left field], because you
blame me for our mother dying in childbirth. I never forgot
my mother, answers Grant, I loved her enough to name my son
after her (Justine Kirkland Harrison); but it has nothing to
do with Vicky and my dispute, you and I were both taken in
by that devious, malicious woman. The phone rings, it's
Cass for Ryan. Lorna didn't shoot you after all, Ryan tells
Grant grudgingly.
Later, Grant has his polygraph - he registers truthful
in answering Yes, Vicky threatened him with a gun; No, he
doesn't remember if Vicky shot him; and (at Ryan's
suggestion) No, he's not covering for someone else. He
passed with flying colors, Andy Polygraph tells Ryan.
Outside, Ryan asks Andy if Grant the Liar could have fooled
the machine. Possible, says Andy, but you can't prove it.
He goes to report the results to the D.A. Ryan vows not to
let Vicky go to prison on Grant's "word."

PARTY - Part II

Joe arrives at the party, and Frankie greets him and
tells him she's a famous heart surgeon and he's a successful
mystery writer. Later, Paulina shows up and stumbles on
the party. She tells Felicia she was looking for Ian to
thank him for a nice note he wrote her about Jake - but
since there's a party, she'll leave. Felicia talks her into
staying for a while. Joe sees her enter from across the
room and is instantly smitten. He literally can't take his
eyes off her; he asks the bartender who she is, but he
doesn't know. Later he tries to walk over for an
introduction when she starts talking with Frankie, but they
walk away before he can reach them.

Annie is startled when Josie and Ian enter; she tries
to conceal it by turning toward the bar, but in the mirror
she sees Carl and Rachel arrive right behind them. She
turns back and stares a moment, then passes out on the
floor. Everyone gathers around to try to revive her.
In the confusion, Joe sees Paulina standing alone. He
starts toward her, but Josie interrupts him. When he looks
up again, Paulina is gone [see below]. Frankie stops Joe on
his way to the exit, but he insists he has to go. He exits.
Annie comes to, and they help her up. She tells Cass &
Felicia it's all the excitement, not to worry. She tenses
up when Carl introduces himself and Rachel - we're playing a
baron and baroness, he says; she returns their greeting,
then quickly excuses herself, leaving the four of them
puzzled. She approaches Josie - where did you get my dress,
she asks. Josie explains how she inherited the dress from
Martin Callahan, it had belonged to his wife, an opera
singer. Cass and Felicia join them in time for her
revelation that Martin had been her husband and Fiona's
father. Cass and Felicia tell her how he came to Bay City
to make a Hollywood production deal with them, but died
shortly after they met him. Annie is shaken by the news of
his death, and Felicia guesses it was seeing the dress that
triggered her collapse. Just then the bartender rushes over
to tell Josie she has an urgent call from John. [see above
and below]

PARTY POOPERS

Paulina is on the Cory terrace, gazing into the
darkness. She goes in to greet Carl and Rachel when they
return early from the party. She says she felt lonely among
all the happy couples, and she had to get out of there.
They urge her to spend the night. She says she thought
about it, but she always feels compelled to go home, as if
Jake might try to contact her and confirm that he wasn't
running away from her when he died. It's normal to keep
expecting to see or hear a departed loved one for a long
time after he's gone, they tell her. Paulina is distraught
over the unanswered questions, but still refuses their offer
to stay. She agrees to meet Rachel for lunch tomorrow, and
makes a hasty exit before she can burst into tears.

Josie meets John and Linette on the docks, where
they've found Sharlene's shawl where she dropped it. They
try to figure out where Bailey might have taken her.

PARTY - Finale

Lorna and Morgan celebrate her exoneration. He gives
her a congratulatory hug, and she gives him a quick kiss.
Face to face, they are drawn into a longer, more passionate
kiss that surprises both of them. They explain it away as
shared trauma and relief; then he invites her back to his
place for food, and she accepts. They exit buoyantly.
Annie thanks Tony for his kindness and generosity in
making this evening happen. She presents him with a basket
of lucky apples. Tony shakes hands with Cass and Felicia,
and tells them they're off the hook. He exits with Rocco
and Marshall. Then Fiona approaches, and says I'm tired,
Ian will drive me home, but please stay as long as you want.
She thanks her mother, Cass and Felicia for the wonderful
party, and exits with Ian. The only ones left are Cass,
Frankie, Felicia, and Annie. Annie again thanks Cass and
Felicia for pulling off this event for Fiona. Cass says he
only has one question: why did you faint at the sight of
Rachel Cory, I saw where you were staring, and it was at
Rachel, not Josie. Annie tries to be evasive, but Cass
won't let it go. I can't lie to you, she finally admits:
Rachel Cory looks just like my sister [drum roll, please],
JUSTINE KIRKLAND. Felicia, Cass and Frankie are
dumbfounded. FREEZE FRAME.
