Hello, here is the update for Another World for Friday,
March 24, 1995:

MAJOR PLOTS:
* Felicia, Vicky & Ryan work on Lorna from different angles
* Bailey scrambles to save his skin

MINOR PLOTS:
* Vicky gets "good news and good news"
* Felicia offers help to Annie

AT THE HOSPITAL (no, we never actually SEE Grant today)

Cass arrives at the hospital in response to a call from
Dana. He says it's funny how Grant just HAPPENED to get a
sudden attack of pain just before his lie detector test.
Dana insists Grant isn't faking, he's anxious to take the
test. Morgan comes up and tells them Grant's condition has
turned serious, no polygraphs today. If Grant dies, says
Dana, Vicky will face a murder charge. He's not dying - at
least, not from the gunshot wound, says Morgan, he has
exhaustion, stress ulcers and internal bleeding caused by
ignoring doctors' advice and turning his hospital room into
a high-powered office. No visitors, he adds, go home.

AT WALLINGFORD'S (outside and inside)

Vicky watches from the bushes as Felicia has brought
Lorna out by the waterfront to give her the gun back. Lorna
shoves it back again, saying she believes what Grant told
her, that she wasn't the one who shot him. He's such a
liar, he's using you to get revenge on Vicky, Felicia
responds. (Ryan, just back from Chicago, sneaks up behind
Vicky, claps his hand over her mouth, and they sneak off
without being spotted [see below].) Lorna won't listen, and
accuses Felicia of wanting her to be guilty; but Felicia
makes her think about how she'd feel if Vicky really didn't
do it, and she helped Grant railroad her into prison and
separate mother and son, all for something Lorna may have
done. She begs Lorna to face facts, take responsibility for
her own actions - bring the gun to the police and come
clean, and let them find out once and for all what really
happened, whether she was the one, so she'd finally know the
truth. Lorna is terrified of going to the cops; Felicia
says it'll look worse if the truth comes out later (and it
will), and they find out she withheld evidence. Lorna
predicts Grant will hate her if Vicky really did it and
Lorna's "confession" creates reasonable doubt and gets Vicky
off. Grant, Grant, always Grant, accuses Felicia, you're as
addicted to Grant as I am to alcohol, and it's time I
stopped enabling you. She places the gun back in Lorna's
hands, saying you have to clear your conscience - addicts
have to hit rock bottom before they can climb back out, and
you're almost there; I wish I could do it for you, but it's
up to you. She exits tearfully; Lorna is shaken.

Inside the bookstore, Vicky welcomes Ryan home with a
big hug, then tells him what she's learned: that Lorna got
drunk and blacked out the night of the fire, and had a gun
in her purse - she may have shot Grant with the gun they
just saw. She wants Ryan to confiscate it, but he can't
because he's on suspension. Vicky starts to go after it
herself, but Ryan reminds her, if it's illegally obtained,
it's useless as evidence in court. Vicky theorizes that
Grant saw his shooting as a golden opportunity to take her
baby away. Ryan thinks she's way off base, until she
informs him Grant already got custody and had Kirk taken
away from her, putting Lorna in charge, no less. Ryan is
shocked, and promises Vicky he'll get her baby back. She
still thinks their best bet is to get the gun before Lorna
and Felicia have time to get rid of it - Ryan is suspended,
so he doesn't have to follow police procedures, right?
Wrong, says Ryan, we have to do this right, and Lorna isn't
our only suspect. Carl, Rachel and Evan have been cleared,
says Vicky, and I just found out Morgan has an alibi. So
does Patrick Miller, says Ryan. He suggests he take his
suspicions to Billy, maybe they can get a search warrent for
Lorna. He makes her promise to stay put and don't ambush
anybody, and he exits, bumping into Cass entering as he
leaves.
Cass tells Vicky he had good news and bad news: first,
Grant has bleeding stress ulcers. What's the bad news,
quips Vicky. Second, says Cass, I got the judge to
authorize daily one-hour supervised visitation for you with
Kirk. She hugs Cass joyfully, promising to follow the
rules. Meanwhile, she tells him, Ryan is getting my life
back for me. Later, still waiting for Ryan's return, Cass
is excitedly showing Vicky a valuable first edition book,
babbling away oblivious until Vicky, bored out of her skull,
slips away. Ryan enters, finds Vicky, and they exit -
warily passing Tuna-Man, Rocco, and Apple Annie on their way
in [see below].
Vicky is gung-ho to get Lorna's gun now. Ryan tries to
stop her - I didn't get the warrant. Vicky rushes to
confront Lorna anyway, but she's gone. Ryan says he's
relieved, now we can take time for a legal investigation
with admissible evidence. Vicky thinks the gun is probably
at the bottom of the bay, along with Carl's counterfeit
plates (Ryan isn't amused); but Ryan promises to come up
with a Plan B.

When Cass finally looks up from the book, he sees
Felicia there instead of Vicky. She tells him she just
confronted Lorna, and it was so painful she now knows how
Cass must have felt during his intervention with Felicia.
Cass reassures her she did the right thing.
Tony the Tuna, Rocco and Annie approach. Tony is
surprised and pleased at how Wallingford's turned out, and
offers his compliments to Cass and Felicia; but now it's
time to help Annie, he insists. My daughter arrives
tomorrow from Europe, Annie says dejectedly, she'll find out
I'm not prosperous like I told her in my letters. Felicia
sympathizes with her mother-daughter crisis, and decides
Annie should move into Felicia's suite at the Love Towers.
Tony and Annie are grateful for the offer; Cass suggests
Annie get Tony and Rocco to help her move her stuff over
from the shelter, and they exit. Felicia tries to decide
which hotel to stay at during Annie's visit with her
daughter. Cass won't hear of it, insisting she stay with
the Winthrops - it'll be like a slumber party, we can give
each other perms and order in pizza. Felicia is reluctant
because of their recent tensions, but finally agrees it'll
be fun.

AT BABY CENTRAL (i.e., Spencer's old place)

Lorna arrives at Grant's new suite and enters to hear
Kirk crying his lungs out in the nursery. Bridget enters,
heading for the baby's room, but Lorna stops her - the book
says not to pick them up every time they cry. Bridget says
he's been crying all day, he's heartsick, he misses his home
and his mother. Lorna scoffs, and says she's here for a
"status report" on Kirk so she can tell Grant when she
visits him. Status report? Bridget says with contempt,
You're listening to it - be sure to tell Grant. The crying
is obviously getting on Lorna's nerves, and she starts to
leave for the hospital. When she opens the door, Vicky is
there; she informs Lorna she's here for a court-approved
visit. As soon as she speaks, the crying stops, to Lorna's
amazement. Does Grant know about these visits, she asks. I
don't know, says Vicky, they cut off all phone calls when
Grant keeled over: "Bleeding ulcers - side-effect of being
possessed by the devil." Despite Vicky's warning that he
can't have visitors, Lorna figures they'll make an exception
for her, and she bolts out.
Bridget has gone to get Kirk; when she returns, she
hands the baby to Vicky and asks if she can do anything else
for her. Yes, says Vicky, call Ryan - tell him Lorna's
broom will be landing at the hospital any minute. Bridget
stifles a giggle. Later, she notes how happy Kirk looks in
Vicky's arms - wish we had it on tape. Don't worry, says
Vicky, Grant's probably got surveillance cameras on us. An
hour a day isn't enough, she adds, but it's better than
being on the road again. Bridget is appalled that Vicky
would consider running again; but they both agree, with Ryan
on their side this time things could actually work out o.k.
Bridget smiles, Vicky smiles - and that gorgeous baby
smiles! [Great timing, right on cue - what an actor!]

AT THE HUDSON FARMHOUSE

John comes back unexpectedly from Florida, telling
Sharlene his mother's pneumonia is much better, she's glad
to be home. Sharlene tells him Bailey has a hospital board
meeting scheduled for today, probably to go after John's and
Morgan's jobs. The phone rings, it's Madeline Thompson at
the Harbor Club, asking Sharlene to meet her there ASAP.
Sharlene agrees, telling John it may be their chance to get
the real dirt on Bailey. John warns her that Madeline may
just want to bawl her out for hassling her husband, that
Bailey may have her fooled. Sharlene says she intends to
clue Madeline in on the real Bailey, and maybe she'll come
over to our side. She exits.

AT THE HARBOR CLUB

After calling Sharlene, Madeline waits at a table and
orders a screwdriver. Bailey appears in time to overhear
her tell the waiter she's expecting Sharlene. He joins her
at her table, and starts oozing charm and apologies.
Madeline is dubious and bemused by his sudden attentions,
wisecracking about their relationship as she guzzles her
screwdriver. He tries unsubtly to find out if she'd defend
him if people said nasty things about him; when she doesn't
reassure him, he announces he's decided to stop nagging her
about her drinking, and he wants to build her that new clay
tennis court she's always wanted. Let's have cocktails to
toast my new attitude, he suggests, ordering another round.
He soon gets up and starts to leave the room, but the waiter
stops him and insists he can't leave his wife alone to drive
home in that condition. Bailey hands him a large bill,
saying pour her into a cab when she's ready to leave.
(Charming, mutters the waiter.) Then he ducks out of sight
as Sharlene arrives. Sharlene introduces herself and sits
at Madeline's table. Madeline is almost too far gone to
realize who she is; when she does, she tries to flag down
the waiter but falls off her chair, dead drunk. Sharlene is
appalled. Baily smugly observes from the sidelines, having
assured his wife's temporary silence yet again, and skulks
away to the hospital board meeting.

BACK AT THE HOSPITAL (what goes around, comes around...)

Bailey and Esther are the first board members in the
room. Bailey pretends sympathy for John's troubles with his
sicko wife, she keeps having psychotic episodes regularly on
every street corner, I was stunned to learn that one of her
multiple personalities was a prostitute, etc. Sharlene
enters behind him, in time to hear him tell Esther he might
have voted for someone besides John for chief-of-staff if
he'd known how unstable Sharlene was. Speak of the devil,
Sharlene says ironically. As Bailey turns and sees her, she
tells him to shut up, it's her turn to do the talking.
Esther excuses herself and exits; Bailey tries to follow
suit, but Sharlene stops him. It's called Payback Time, she
says, I heard the smear campaign you were just feeding
Esther, and it won't work - what if I told the board about
your fondness for eighth-grade girls? No one will believe
you, Bailey blusters, they'll think you're delusional.
Maybe, says Sharlene, but I can't wait to find out what your
wife has to say when she sobers up. You stay away from her,
Bailey threatens.

Meanwhile, John has arrived for the board meeting.
Morgan sees him heading for the elevator and stops him. He
urges John to dump him so that Bailey and Grant will lay off
John; you should save your own career, I'll be fine. Thanks
for the self-sacrifice, says John, but they're not after
you, they're after me and Sharlene - you're just the bait.
Lorna arrives, catches John and Morgan at the elevator
and begs them to override the rules and let her in to see
Grant. No way, says John, it's for Grant's own good. The
elevator arrives, and John and Morgan excuse themselves to
head for the board meeting; but Lorna insists on a word with
Morgan, so John goes on ahead.

Sharlene continues to confront Bailey - it's a pleasure
watching you squirm, she tells him. You can't intimidate
me, says Bailey, starting toward her. Stop, not one more
step, warns John, joining his wife.

Still at the elevator, Lorna tries again to wheedle
Morgan into getting her in to see Grant. Sorry, snaps
Morgan, I have to get to the meeting to save my career from
your ungrateful boyfriend's lies. He catches the next
elevator; Lorna turns in frustration - and finds herself
face-to-face with Ryan. He asks her about what she came to
the station to tell him, the day after the shooting.
Nothing, says Lorna, evasively. Wrong, says Ryan, you're a
very candid, straight-forward person, and your lying is
driving you crazy, not to mention the guilt of separating
Vicky from her child and sending her to prison if she's
innocent. I know about your blackout, he adds, and what you
had in your purse. Lorna is shaken, then admits that
Felicia had convinced her to come clean, so she rushed over
to tell Grant first, that's why she was so anxious to see
him, but she got shut out. Facing the inevitable, she tells
Ryan: "Welcome to the truth, starring me." She pulls out
the gun and holds it, pointing up. FREEZE FRAME.

STUDY QUESTIONS:

* Where were all the other hospital board members?
* How will Frankie feel about having Cass's old girlfriend
as their new roomie?
* Will Madeline sober up long enough to complete a sentence
in front of anyone but Bailey and the waiter? If not, could
she pass information to Sharlene through the waiter?
* Can Ryan convince Billy to reinstate him long enough to
take Lorna's gun and confession?
* What could Grant have been thinking, putting Lorna in
charge of a baby he supposedly loves? What could Grace Shaw
have been thinking - was giving Luisa to Tom'as too much of
a strain on her common sense?
* Is Bailey after John, or Morgan, or both? Is Grant after
John, or Morgan, or both? Did Grant bother to have the FBI
check out Bailey before allying himself with him, or does he
only sic the FBI on people he really loves?
