Here's a short update for 2/20/96...

MATT/BLAIR

Matt and Blair are both working late; he suggests they share a glass
of wine
to help them relax after a busy day. Blair chides him for overworking,
but

Matt says that with Jake as a partner, he has to stay on top of things.

GUN-BOY IN JAIL

Grant is having a nightmare that his cell-mate is trying to kill him.
He cries
out to the guard for help, but the guard turns out to be Carl, who says
"If at

first you don't succeed, try, try again...."

CASS/CECILE

Cass is mulling over what Cecile told him about Maggie being his
daughter, and
he is still skeptical. However, once he gets to thinking, he starts to

remember that long-ago night in Monte Carlo, and how he and Cecile
shared an
expensive suite and celebrated their winnings all night long....

GABE/MORGAN/COURTNEY/JOSIE/GARY/TOMAS

Gabe questions Morgan about the assisted-suicide book they found in his
locker.
Morgan denies owning it, and Courtney says that Andrew probably planted
it

there to frame Morgan. Josie believes the theory, but Gabe is
skeptical. Gabe
questions Courtney separately, and she claims that Morgan is totally
against
assisted suicide, and believes in keeping patients alive at all costs.
A

little later, Tomas comes to the cop-shop to sympathize with Morgan
over being
falsely accused, since he's been there himself. Tomas lets slip that
Morgan

had a pamphlet from the Death With Dignity society, and Gabe overhears
him.

Gabe decides to arrest Morgan. Courtney freaks out and says she is
going to

do something to help Morgan, and runs out....

BLAIR/CARL/MATT

Carl pays a visit to Blair at the Herald office. She is dismayed to
see him,

and demands to know what he wants. Carl tells the former jail-bird
that he

wants her to use her contacts on the inside to do him a favor. He
tells her
to meet him in the alleyway outside Carlino's in half an hour. Matt
comes in
and jovially asks them if they've been introduced yet. Carl gives
Blair a

meaningful look, and leaves. Later, Blair and Matt are relaxing over
that
glass of wine when Blair has to leave suddenly. Matt doesn't
understand why
she has to run off, but lets her go. Blair meets Carl at their
appointed place
and he gives her a hard time about why she is in Bay City. She denies
her

being in town has anything to do with Gary. Carl gets to the point:
he wants
her to use her prison contacts to make sure that Grant never gets out
of jail.

GRANT/SPENCER

After Grant wakes up from his nightmare, he gets a visit from Spencer.
Spencer
is initially all sympathetic, believing that the charges against Grant
are

false. He promises to get Grant the best lawyer, etc. etc. Grant cuts
him off
and tells him that he really did do it, he shot his own brother.
Spencer is

appalled and incredulous. He demands to know how Grant could have done
such an
evil thing. Grant is blubbering and pleading that it was an accident,
and that
now he needs his father more than ever. Spencer is horrified and
unforgiving.
HIs precious Ryan, whom he raised up from infancy, is forever gone.
Grant

insists that he did it for his son, to save Kirkland. Spencer tells
him with
contempt that "Because of this unspeakable sin that you've committed,
you don't
deserve to have a son."

GABE/LORNA

Gabe and Lorna are at his apartment. She still cannot understand how
the cops

can be arresting Morgan. She tells Gabe that Morgan is one of her best

friends. Gabe retorts that he just sent *his* best friend to jail.
Lorna

gets on the subject of Gabe's marriage, and asks him if she had never

questioned him outright about it, would he ever have gotten around to
telling
her? He says yes, absolutely he would have...eventually. Gabe tells
her that
he knows that he is a difficult person to get close to, but that she is
the

same way, and that is one of the things that initially attracted them
to each
other. Lorna suggests that they continue to get to know each other
better
starting tonight, and that when he gets off work, she'll be there at
his place
waiting for him. He agrees to the idea, they kiss passionately, and he
leaves.
Later, Lorna is alone in Gabe's apartment when the phone rings. When
she picks
it up and says hello, a woman's voice says that she's sorry, she must
have a

wrong number, she was looking to speak with Gabe McNamara. Lorna says
wait,
you've got the right number, who is this? The woman abruptly hangs
up....

COURTNEY/MORGAN/CASS

Courtney returns to the cop shop with Cass in tow. Morgan initially
refuses

all of his help, but then they get to talking, and he admits to Cass
that he's
scared. Cass tells Morgan that he fully intends to help Morgan fight
this

thing. Morgan ends up by agreeing to accept Cass's help.

JOSIE/GARY/BLAIR/MATT

Josie and Matt talk on the phone, and Josie informs Matt that Blair
hasn't

come home yet. Matt finds that odd -- Blair told him she was going
straight
home. Unbeknowst to either them, Blair is meanwhile having her
rendevous with
Carl. Later, Gary comes to Josie's place and they tumble into bed.
Blair

comes home and hears them laughing, and sees them fooling around
through a

crack in the partway-opened bedroom door. She is hurt enough to start
crying
again.

Today the FREEZE-FRAME was Morgan and Cass clasping hands through the
bars
of Morgan's cell.

The scene between Spencer and Grant was fabulous! It was great seeing
Spencer
again, too.

Gabe the Babe is what they're calling the Captain,
      And I agree the nickname's very apt, hon;
      If someone could please facilitate
      My arrest, I'd immediately capitulate;
      I palpitate
      Just to contemplate
The seduction I would love to orchestrate --
And therefore I propose myself as candidate
      For next-in-line to be Gabe's shower-mate! :-)
