Today in Bay City, the final stages of Grant's dastardly plan fell into place.
There were so many comings and goings, I'll dispense with grouping scenes by
character, and just try to remain reasonably coherent:

STRANDED...

Jake's car runs out of gas and he is stranded in a deserted spot. His cell
phone is missing, and he curses his stupidity in not going to Vicky's house
right away, instead of making that turn. He curses his bad luck aloud and
wonders what kind of a thief would steal his phone and drain the juice out of
his tank -- why, Bobby Reno, of course! Jake decides this is all a plot on
Bobby's part. Just then, a motorcyclist happens by, and offers to give Jake
a lift to the gas station. The Good Samaritan is actually Grant's Stooge, the
smirky one who moonlights as FakeJake.....

IT'S SICKENING, ALL RIGHT..

Earlier, in Sassy's, Cindy fakes illness while Bobby covertly pumps her for
information, and drops hints that Jake suspects she stole his coat and is in
cahoots with someone, Grant perhaps? On his way into the bar, Tomas spots
FakeJake under Bobby's truck, and asks what he is doing. FakeJake holds up
a quarter and bounds off. Tomas wonders why Jake the millionaire would bother
to crawl under a truck for a dropped quarter. Cindy begs Tomas to take her
to the hospital, and although annoyed, he complies. Throughout it all, Ryan's
Ghost hangs around and provides editorial commentary, cheering Bobby on....

DISPENSING ADVICE

Carl visits Vicky while she is in the final stages of preparation for her
mini-trip with Bobby. Carl and Vicky talk about Ryan for a while, and Vicky
confides to Carl how it frequently seems to her that Ryan is still with her,
right by her side. Carl tells Vicky to stay close to Bobby, because both
Bobby and Ryan will protect her. Later, Carl runs into Bobby outside next
to his truck, and gives him a few final words of advice. Love can make
miracles possible, Carl says, and put you on a different and better path
entirely..why, just look at how Rachel changed his (Carl's) life. Carl tells
Bobby that there are times when he feels like he's been blessed with another
son, meaning Bobby. Bobby wistfully tells Carl that if his (Bobby's) old man
had only been anything like Carl....aw, forget it, there's no one else like
Carl, and never could be.

RIGHT TRACK, WRONG TRAIN, JAKE...

Jake rushes over to Vicky's house to warn her against Bobby -- he's figured
it out, it's all a huge plot! Bobby has been behind everything since Jake's
mugging before Christmas, and it's all for the purpose of getting Vicky away
from Jake. Vicky scoffs and tells Jake that this time he's gone too far in
his paranoid speculations. Jake tries to impress on her how urgently he fears
for her safety -- what if her kids never see her again? He offers to follow
behind Bobby's truck at a safe distance, just to keep an eye on Vicky. Vicky
says no thanks. Jake asks her if Bobby understands the depth of her lingering
feelings for Ryan...does he really respect her wishes? Vicky finally manages
to get across to Jake that nothing can stop her from going. Jake despondently
agrees to stop throwing up obstacles in her way. If she's going, she's going.
They share a solemn moment as she vows to come back and then break the tension
by collapsing on the sofa in a fit of friendly tickling....

REMORSE.....

At the hospital, Cindy infuriates Tomas when she insists that she doesn't need
medical treatment after all, she just had an allergic reaction to some lettuce.
Tomas is wigged out over having missed so much work in order to drive her
around, and all for nothing. She apologizes, but he is unimpressed. After
Tomas leaves, Grant comes in and congratulates Cindy for her great performance
at Sassy's, and tells her he has only one more task he expects from her: to
remain calm no matter what she hears of anything happening, for instance to
Vicky. Cindy figures out that Grant has set Jake up to take the fall for
something, and says she won't be a part of it. Grant again reminds her that
he can pick up the phone anytime and tell Gabe about the fire in Boston.
Cindy is cowed, and Grant leaves. Later, Tomas comes back in and demands to
know why she didn't attend Grant's board meeting. Cindy makes up some excuse
about having missed too much work already. She begins to assemble a tray of
medications that need passing out, and is so upset that she drops everything
on the floor. She starts to cry, saying "I'm responsible....what will I do
now?" Tomas asks her if she is all right, perhaps she should go home for the
rest of the day if she can't do her work. Carl overhears outside the door,
and when Tomas leaves he comes in and pretends to be Cindy's friend, pumping
her for info. This is all because of Grant, isn't it? he soothingly intones..
..the man is evil, you know. What does Grant have Cindy doing for him? Come
on, she can tell Carl....

COUNTDOWN.....

As Bobby gets in his truck, starts the ignition and drives off to Vicky's,
the timer on the device underneath the truck starts counting down in minutes
and seconds from 60:00. Whatever will happen, will happen an hour from now.
Meanwhile, Grant lovingly unpacks a box of Kirkland's things, including a
plaque that reads "Kirk's Room", and says "Very soon now, Kirkland, very
soon...."

...AND IF ALL THIS IS TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT FOR YOU, HERE'S A CHANCE TO NAP

At Carlino's, Nick comes in and orders a pizza, around the same time that
Grant shows up and places an order for a dozen cappucinos delivered to the
hospital meeting. Nick hangs around, offering to stay and share the pizza
with Sophia, but she says she has too much work to do. Matt shows up and
and Nick looks on, Sophia drags him into the kitchen and commands him to
close his eyes, she has a surprise for him. She opens a champagne bottle
and lights the candles on a cake shaped like a life preserver. Okay, he
can open his eyes...Happy Anniversary, it's been six months since he pulled
her out of that car wreck. Since then, life has been simply splendid for
her, and she really appreciates being alive. Naturally, she has Matt to
thank for this. They drink the toast and then they move in for a kiss. A
glum Nick watches outside through the window....

HEY BRIDGET, THAT FRAMED HEADLINE SHOULDA READ "LISTEN TO *RYAN*!"

As Vicky and Bobby prepare to head out the door, Ryan's Ghost frantically
attempts to stop them. On the doorstep, Bobby and Vicky simultaneously
turn and look around, almost as if they had heard his cry of protest. Vicky
dithers and goes back inside, wondering if she's forgotten anything. She
fusses with her backpack while Bobby tries to persuade her everything is fine.
Finally, they both turn to go, as Ryan yells a warning to stop....FREEZE FRAME.
