Hello again, all....here's the doings in Bay City for 01/09/96.

Jake/Nick

Jake is giving Nick a pep talk about what it takes to succeed in
running a

newspaper; meanwhile...

Matt/Paulina/Joe/Rachel/Jake

....Matt is having a conniption fit about Jake's choice to run a
front-page

story about Maggie's kidnapping. Paulina and Joe fume right along with
him
about how low-down Jake is being, again. Later, Paulina and Matt go to
the
hospital and tell Rachel about Maggie so she won't have to learn about
it by
reading it in the papers. Rachel says she doesn't care about the
money, she
only wants Maggie back home safe. Later, Matt goes to confront Jake
about

running the story; Jake is unrepentant.

Grant/Morgan

Grant goes to the hospital to check on Carl's condition, but is headed
off at
the pass by Morgan, who wonders why Grant even cares, given the obvious

animosity between him and Carl. Meanwhile...

Vicky/Carl/Rachel

Vicky is in Carl's hospital room; Carl whispers to her that Grant shot
Ryan.
Vicky later demands of Rachel if she knows anything about this; Rachel
says

she doesn't have anything substantiated, but this is the same thing
that Carl
has been saying all along, and it jibes with what Grant told her at the

Christmas party, about how he was in fact at the train trestle that
day.

Rachel also tells Vicky that Grant told her that he went and told Gabe
that
information, but she's not sure if he's lying or not. Vicky
says she knows now what she has to go and do....

Maggie/Rafael

Maggie is still sleeping, as Rafael holds a gun on her and watches. He
rifles
through her backpack and finds her journal. He starts to read it, and
learns
about her Tomas/Nick troubles and some of her romantic fantasies. He
is

obviously starting to be attracted to her, and even fantasizes about
getting
close to her. When Maggie wakes up, he acts surly towards her again.

Morgan/Courtney

Courtney and Morgan talk at work; Courtney is still worried about the
hang-up
phone call she got at Morgan's apartment the other day, and is sure it
was

Andrew. Morgan manages to reassure her that she is safe.

Grant/Carl/Vicky

A bit earlier, before Vicky has talked with Rachel, Grant comes again
to

Carl's hospital room and has a major freak-out episode when he imagines
that
he sees Carl's bed is empty. He assumes that Carl has died and is
rejoicing

at his luck when he sees a figure dressed in a nun's habit standing in
the

corner of the room. "Mother...?" he quaveringly asks, only to see Carl
turn
around, with a hook for a hand, and start fulminating against Grant for
all his
evil misdeeds. He slowly advances on Grant, reducing him to a pleading
wreck,
and starts to strangle him....at that moment, Grant snaps out of it to
find

himself kneeling on the floor by Carl's bedside, totally a hysterical
basket
case, while Vicky stands in the door and suspiciously asks him what on
earth
is wrong....

Gabe/Lorna

At the cop shop, Gabe is directing the investigation into Maggie's
kidnapping.
Lorna comes to visit him. He's been there all night and forgotten
their date,
but not only does she forgive him, she has brought over his shaving kit
and

an extra pair of underwear, which she hands over with the comment
"These are

cute.." After Gabe comes back showered and shaved, they talk about his
job
a bit, and Lorna tells him that he has just the right mix of qualities
to be a
good cop -- he's very cool and precise, but he also cares deeply about
people
and is able to put himself in a person's shoes and imagine how he/she
is

feeling, while most cops just look at someone as a problem to be
solved. Gabe
asks her if she's ever had any negative experiences with the law, and
she says
she has. When he asks her if she wants to talk about it, she says no.
He
says to her that what he would like very much is for her to feel she is
able

to trust him, and she says that she would like that too....

Vicky/Nick

On her way to the police station, Vicky runs into her brother, and they
talk
for a bit about his new business venture with Jake. She warns Nick not
to

trust Jake too much, that even though he is her best friend she knows
that Jake
can be very selfish and has a way of letting people down. Vicky then
goes into
the station and sits down and collects her thoughts for a minute. She
reflects
that either Gabe knows that Grant was there that day and he's sitting
on the

information, or Grant was lying and he never told Gabe to begin with.
Either
way, she resolves to see the Captain and talk with him, and starts up
the

stairs with her mind made up.....FREEZE FRAME
